Thanks for this great tutorial. Just a little side note: If you just want to replace the hard drive, there is no need to open the bottom cover, you can access the four screws that hold the HDD/SSD in place without removing cover. To ensure that the SSD contacts the SATA connector, it is enough to put the E6500 in the normal working position before sliding the SSD into the bay.

You actually don't have to take the back of the computer of to do this I replaced mine with a 128gb SSD all you have to do is undo those four screws on the left then we slide the drive out then get your other HDD or SSD and put it so you don't need to take the back of to do this :-)

I don't think you'd have to pick up on it if the laptop was right-side-up, but it's still good info. I just picked up a E6510 at GoodWill 'The Grid' for $45. Got it running on Kubuntu Live CD and had to reseat the keyboard about 5 times to get random cluster of keys not working but it's good now. Got to put a hdd or ssd in it now, and update the mem. I think it will take 8GB if I remember correctly.

heyy i have big problem with this dell model... i update bios to newest version and i install all updates on system and i still no see the nvidia discrette gpu in device manager .... what i do wrong How i can fix it. ?

How do you copy your information over to the new hard drive?

i just got a standard e6500 in perfect condition what upgrades do you recommend i wont know till i open it up and see, i was told the hard drive was upgraded. when did these first come out on the market ? nice video btw thumbs up from me.

Why would you waste the money for a solid state for such an out of date machine though? Core duo processing lol I mean yeah you can get a bit of a gain but still not worth the money for a laptop like this one to upgrade like that.
