Dell Precision 3640 / Review / Small computer, high performance in 2021

Hello everyone, as we already know, a lot of you are having problems to get some powerfull hardware in order to fulfill your creative and gaming computing needs. Why not take a look to a Dell Workstation that can handle pretty much all of your needs!
I am really excited to share with you my experience in the search of a new small form factor computer to replace my huge HP Z840 as a main workstation, i dont´t know, maybe small computers can replace the big towery... let´s take a look :)

I bought one for my older Brother. Had storage upgraded to m.2 1TB and 32gb ram. Has the Xeon w1290p cpu 10 core 20 threat very fast. It has uhd630 gou built in as well. This is a killer budget gaming machine. The PSU is a standard sized PSU can be replaced with most off the shelf PSU's. Needs 24 pin and 8 pin mobo connectors. So 2x4 or 1x8 mono connector and 24 pin. Fits a 12 inch video card.

Good review. My home workstation was a fully loaded Dell T7500 (2 Xeon W5590 cpus, 64Gb memory, 4 15K rpm scsi drives). It finally died and I replaced it with a Dell 3640 (1 I9-10900 cpu, 6 SSDs, optional 120mm cooling fan, upgraded stock 300 watt power supply to a 750 watt Corsair). The 3640 is 1/3 the size and 1/4 the weight of the T7500. I purchased the 3640 for the extra PCIe slots for graphics and storage adapters. The T7500 was loud and power hungry. The 3640 is dead quiet you dont even know it is on unless you put sufficient load to start up the cooling fans, even then it is extremely quiet. The 3640 performs extremely well much better than the T7500.

I got one of these in April with the 10900K at a bargain price, All Lightroom/Photoshop at the moment, very stable but temps high and throttles constantly under high workloads! Interested in what you're thinking re. cooling. I'm adding two front fans in the next week and removing the top HDD which blocks air flow into that really small space between the PSU and CPU/memory area. I reckon the endgame is probably a new MOBO, air cooler and case. Good Luck

Hi Jorge! I saw your next video about the Corsair H60 liquid cooling solution. I have the Precision 3630 and the i9-9900k so our situtation with thermals is very similar...It'd be awesome if I could reach out to you in order to get some help installing the H60. Have a great week.

Where is the wifi/Bluetooth card located? How to remove it?

Running Ubuntu 22.04 LTS on my Precision 3640. It came with 16GB of RAM and I have ordered 64GB RAM to add to this. It's quite disappointing that it doesn't have a Wifi card.

Hola Juan, lamentablemente no es tan sencillo. La tarjeta madre tiene unos conectores especiales de poder que dificultan mucho ponerle otra marca de fuente de poder. Pero igual encuentras baratas fuentes de poder de mas Watts. Al menos acá en eBay. Saludos y gracias por mirar!

Hello Steve, yes you could technically upgrade the power supply, but I think it is not worth the price. SSD drives can you always install them. Thanks for watching!

No thank you. A workstation must be able to run and perform near max specs for days. And be reliable. It is a tool to get work done, to make money. These days DELL makes nice monitors, but their computers are pretty bad, across the board.
