We picked up the Dell Precision 7760. Our model had the following specs:

Great first look man! You configured yours very nicely, too! For the price, I don't really blame you for wanting to return it lol. Though, do you use virtual machines by any chance? I've desperately been looking for videos showing how smooth virtual machines behave in virtual box, Hyper-v or Vmware with the 4k 120hz, but no luck! Nor could I find any virtual machine video running on a 120hz or higher monitor. I'll be acquiring an i7 or i9 with the 120hz soon . My i9 Precision 7540 has very decent specs, too, but it's time for a bigger, faster display, and better laptop overall. I've also considered the ThinkPad, but it doesn't have an option for the 120hz, nor does the Z Book 17, I think.

you are correct, the ThinkPad does not have 120Hz. The ThinkPad P17 is substantially less expensive than the 7760, so I returned the 7760 and picked up the P17 but regretted it. The P17 is going back tomorrow. The screen on the 7760 is so much nicer, and the device is smaller, fans have a better sound, price is really the only problem with the 7760. I do use virtual machines, mainly for studying, kali, etc. However, i didn't try them on this device. I couldn't justify the price so I didn't want to get too attached to it. I ended up just buying the new XPS 8950 desktop. However, of all the laptops this year, if i had to pick one, the 7760 would be towards the top of my list.

Great review! I can totally understand why it's not as good as Dell XPS for designers. For me, as a developer, its a unparalleled sollution. Programmers/cad developers that has a main HQ will be most pleased due to its weight. This baby pack some serious power. Where you spend most time, is where you want to keep it. The quick swap ssd is a stroke of genious for safekeeping or transfer between locations/developers. It could in addition be put to use in a lightweight travel companion when on the move.

I have a 7760 with xeon and quadro a5000, When I use furmark or msi to test the gpu it runs at 110% of gpu power until the temperature becomes 80 C, after that the power decreases to 50% and the temperature becomes about 50 or 60 C, And still at this point. What is the problem brother? Please help to decide if i keep it or return it back

I saw another fingerprint beside intel sticker what’s the different? What do you think of adding ssd access slot on the bottom?

That other fingerprint is a FIPS one or something like that. Something that would qualify for a higher level of security for like government work. I don't have the need to frequently swap out SSDs, but if that is needed for some people I can see how that acces slot could be useful

That's through "PerkSpot" and they will have great deals. It can be under different names, it generally is affiliated with a business or school. Like I have one program from the school I got my Masters degree from and one from my employer. If you login through their portal you can get really good prices. If you are a student, you can you usually find them on a Student Life page or Student Benefits page, and if your employer has a partnership it is generally listed on your Intranet listed somewhere around the benefits section.

How is the fan noise during relatively low spin speed? I want to buy this laptop but I am very sensitive to fan nosie.

There is a noise, but I would legitimately call it the most pleasant fan noise I have ever heard on a laptop. Like a white noise essentially

@@5after12 So will the fan switch on and turning to full speed for a while suddenly then switch off completey for awhile during doing a mid-intensively task like surfing the internet? since I have a very bad experience before on a dell latitude series laptop that have this kind of issue , and it is super annoying for me.

The Precision line is a production laptop so that's its primary mission. Its a waste if your primary duty is for gaming. Nevertheless, there's nothing wrong with using it to game after the work is done and you want to take a break.

This machine should handle everything but I don't think its tuned for gaming, these use Quadro GPUs and for gaming they use the GeForce.

I bought Precision 7760 but it has a buzzing noise from RJ45 jack. Cannot be solved and very annoying.

Did you contact Dell? That seems like a one off issue. I have had good experience with them in the past for returns or warranty

Hi Sir, I wanted to get a 7760. Is it worth it. Please advise. I used to use a ThinkPad earlier. I don't use those tools, so I really can't comment on that. I will say the 7760 was an excellent machine, but "worth' the price is questionable. You can get the ThinkPad P17 for significantly cheaper. However, if price is not an issue, I would choose the 7760 over the P17 every time

I used both laptop series, W520 (2010), and Dell Precision 7760(2018).. As an architect, I used AutoCAD, Revit, 3Ds Max, and Adobe Suites. I have done video editings on both machines too. They both are great machines and a dedicated graphics card enhances performances on those graphic apps. As these laptops can last more than 10 years, I would invest in components that you cannot upgrade, so CPU and GPU are two most important things to spend bucks on. You can buy RAMs and SSDs separately or upgrade later on.

That voice. But anyway, I can't believer Dell is still using the antiquated DP 1.4 on a laptop of this cost. The release for DP 2.0 has been available for vendor for going on 3 years now. Who the heck needs USB A ports? The 500 nits of brightness and matte display is however a huge leap forward.

I think you are a bit confused here. This Dell Precision 7760 is the 2021 model. And while DP 2.0 was technically published in 2019, it still really isn't available. The Intel Arc A380 was the first discrete graphics card to support DisplayPort 2.0 and that came out this year, June 2022. Even the 2022 models of high end laptops like the Alienware X17 R1 or the Razer Blade 17, both with the 3080 TI, have DisplayPort 1.4 and not DisplayPort 2.0. Even at this point, I don't believe there are actual DisplayPort 2.0 monitors you can readily buy.

Yes but NO. If there is no gap between F4 and F5, also between F8 and F9, and there is not a specific placement of arrow buttons .. a great shortcoming. It worths nothing for me.

@@5after12 Even if I dont't like the keyboard 🙃I bought one yesterday. With 128 GByte, 1 x 2 TByte SSD, 6370 USD, taxes are too much in our country.
