It's impressive how the Pesicion T1700 is identical to the Optplex 9020 tower, from the case to the motherboard. Please can you tell what the difference is, is it in the bios or is there really no difference? Just put a xeon and ECC memory and that's ok? Good job!

Finding ram for these machines is really difficult. I've bought 2 different sets and everytime I try to boot I get the 2/3 amber led error. I have found a compatible 4gb stick and have 3x 4gb sticks in. However windows only recognizes 8gb of ram. Very frustrating to troubleshoot.

Will Kingston KVR 1333 work? I have 16gb so if I put it into my 16gb machine I’ll have 32 right?

Hi, do you have any idea why my system does not work without separate graphic card? Even if I set in the bios that the primary display is Intel HD I don't get any output from neither one of the two display ports nor the vga...totally strange. Latest bios is installed, bios was resetted to defaults etc...

Is this bigger than the dell optiplex 9020 ?

Dell Optiplex 9020 have different sizes. Mini-Tower, Small Form Factor and Ultra Small Form Factor. Mini-Tower is the largest at 20.72 lbs and 14.17 x 6.89 x 16.42 inches. The Dell T1700 is very close to the Mini-Tower at 20.06 lbs and 14.17 x 6.98 x 17.12 inches. Very close indeed.

I've installed 2x8GB in the 2nd & 4th slot of non-ECC RAM, leaving the OEM 2x4GB in the 1st and 3rd slot, and it manages to recognize 24 Gb. Do you think that replacing the OEM ram with 2 more 8 GB DIMMs would work?

Make sure RAM types match. Cannot mix non-ECC with ECC.

@@cloudninjas they are all non-ECC. And although it is said that you can't reach more than 16 GB with non-ECC ram, my Dell managed to recognize 24 GB

Is there a special reason to take RAM with 1866MHz? If I take a look at the specs, there are only 1600MHz. This is cheaper and easier to find.

No advantage. Will clock down. If just now buying then we recommend 1600. Some companies want to carry 1 module in their data center for future upgrades that are compatible with multiple systems. We just let everyone know they will work. Smash that subscribe. Have a good weekend.

Bought one of these today to replace my old 11 year old workstation that's having USB Problems, Planning on installing a 1050Ti Low Power and a 10gbe Network Card, hopefully it will tide me over as i am having problems with hardware shortage here in the UK. Any recommendations ?
