For those who are thinking about getting this pc, there are a lot of things you have to do to make it run well with good temperatures. You have to change the cpu cooler to a vtroo v5 cooler (this is plug and play). DO not buy 3200mhz ram because the board only supports 2933mhz ram and buying 3200mhz will only be a waste of money. If you are going to buy ram, make sure that the ram operates at specifically 1.2v. Also, buy a vrm heat sink so that it is regulated and does not overheat. Also, use the fans from the dell cpu heatsink and re-use it as an intake fan towards the bottom. (I have an i7-11700 with a 3070ti). With good cooling and upgrades, this can be the ultimate pc you own. Also, use hwinfo to control the fans.

The cooling is inadequate because the non-K models weren't designed to run at boost speeds for any prolonged length of time - that's how they can rate the TDP at only 65W. Intel's own stock cooling doesn't work any better. I wouldn't be surprised if the benchmark delta you're seeing is possibly the result of some difference in motherboard/bios settings in addition to aftermarket cooling. I highly doubt Dell will listen to anybody about putting beefier coolers on the high end CPUs they get their grubby hands on. You can basically just tell the CPU to thermal throttle on command. Its absolutely terrible. You could do what Dawid did on his channel. He put a Noctua NH-U9S on his 10700 which was also in a Dell XPS build. It brought thermals down by a LOT.
@alexisrivera200xable2 жыл бұрын
If the CPU is hitting 86c when booting and opening a few simple apps? Sounds like they didn't apply the thermal paste properly. I mean the cooler is obviously insufficient but even then the temps spiking at such low usage levels often means poor contact between the cooler and the CPU's IHS. In some odd cases it could also mean that the CPU's IHS is not flat enough and thus it hinders the cooler's performance.

Great review, as always. I don't know why stock coolers are still such complete garbage. It's definitely not quad channel RAM. Only server grade processors can do quad channel ram (like intel's X series and AMD's Threadripper and Epyc series). True quad channel motherboards usually have RAM slots on both sides of the processor. What happens when you have 4 sticks of RAM otherwise is that it still runs in dual-channel mode but, depending on the motherboard's architecture, the RAM is either accessed daisy-chained (each pair of sticks' memory addresses are treated as if they were one much larger stick, better for stable overclocking) or T-topology (each pair of sticks are dealt with in parallel, generally faster than daisy-chained).

As an aside: just because a machine is using 4 RAM sticks doesn't make it "quad channel" it's still "dual channel", just using 2 sticks per channel (interleaved). A true "quad channel" setup is something HEDT (High-End Desk Top) grade like Threadripper. @@arielmelamed7820 I've since max'd mine out the specs. Upgraded fan, RAM (64GB), and 10TB of SSD (from 2 originally). It's amazing. 🤌

You are asking Dell to spent $5 more on the cooler man, they'll go bankrupt.

Hello ETA Prime, I Don't know if YOU don't know, but there are two games extremelly hard to emulate on PSP, XBox 360 and PS3, that is DANTE'S INFERNO, so, I wanna suggest You to include it on Your tests. Regards, Jimmy Gresik

Great video ETA! If this isn't a "rental" unit from Micro Center, could you throw in a 3rd party cooler and see what gaming and Cinebench temps would be? Maybe something simple like a CM Hyper 212?
@andrews.92862 жыл бұрын
The problem is you can't. The cooler screws into the case itself. Optimum Tech replaced the exhaust fan with a 92mm rad and liquid cooled the CPU.

open it up and put a Pi. No need for a cooler. Maybe enough space can put 2 Pi.

Thank you @ETA Prime, I was thinking about buying this unit (for sale at a nudge under 1000$). Stylistically would you prefer this unit or the one in white?

Holy Jesus, that CPU looks like it has one of those really tiny CPU coolers from the old Pentium 1 days. Hopefully, Microcenter sees this video and pressures Dell into upgrading the CPU coolers.

Could you please say how much time it takes to install all your applications in each setup? I mean, you install many repetitive games in each laptop and pc (and some older one even don't have SSD) and I'm curious to know how much time it takes it each occasion... And please mention if you install them at once using some tools, or using online installers?

You should try changing the cooler for the Vetroo V5. Biggest air cooler that will fit in that case.

Since they have bought infinite amount of that cooler from the OEM ,they are not going to upgrade it in this timeline.

I would add a better cooler or put wide masking tape on and make a grid and drill holes on the side panel

I know the cpu cooler is small, but that is just far too little airflow. What is that a 90mm on the cpu and a 90mm on the case?
