Just wanted to drop a note that this was an excellent step by step! Fantastic video. Removed this motherboard from my laptop in 15 minutes. Would of been 15 hours without this video. Everything was there and exactly as you showed. Waiting on the replacement. Awesome that there's reassembly in second half. Brilliant!! Thank you for this!! :)

The thermal pads and thermal compound make contact with the CPU, GPU, and heatsink to transfer heat and keep the laptop running cool. If the pads or compound it not there, it would make the laptop hot and keep the fan running at high speed.

No, there is only one intel motherboard for the 1545 and it uses the M274K heatsink. You could change the motherboard to the ATI version but you would have to change the heatsink to a K364N. There are 2 ATI motherboard part numbers, 937GW and H314N. Both of the boards have the same performance just different part numbers.
@dellpartspeople
@dellpartspeople 11 жыл бұрын
You can check the part number for the motherboard, there should be a sticker that says DP/N: 0h413n somewhere on the motherboard. Or if you install the motherboard Device Manager should say the video is ATI Radeon ™4330 (Discrete). To be clear, you are aware that the 1545 only has on-board GPUs. It doesn't have an option for a separate video card.

1. Core Duo or Core 2 Duo 2. 1mb, 2mb, or 3mb cache 3. 667mhz, 800Mhz, or 1067Mhz bus speed If the processor meets the criteria then it will be compatible. There are several processor out there, you will have to find one with the best speed. All of the i-series (i3,i5,i7) are not compatible. Keep in mind, the GPU is built onto the motherboard, isn't upgradable, and tends to overheat easily. I've heard about problems with game play on this system because of that.

Google "thermal compound". It ranges from $8-$15. It goes on the CPU and GPU contact surfaces. Not the fan.

There are two different GPU options for that system. One is the Integrated Intel Video and the other is the Discrete ATI Radeon 4330 Video.

No, the 1545 will only use Celeron or core 2 duo processors. The CPUs must meet these criteria: 1. Core Duo or Core 2 Duo 2. 1mb, 2mb, or 3mb cache 3. 667mhz, 800Mhz, or 1067Mhz bus speed There are more details in the other comments.

According to Dell's specs, no, but it is a core 2 duo so it may work. I haven't tried it myself.
@dellpartspeople

Its because the heatsink isn't covering the GPU so the laptop is overheating. I wouldn't suggest running the laptop without the proper heatsink, you could fry the motherboard.

Dell's internal spec sheet shows the "compatible" CPUs and the T9600 isn't one of them. I'm not sure if it's because the CPU was introduced after the laptop was made or if there is something else that make it incompatible. The CPU specs appear to be compatible so it might work. I haven't tried it myself so, I'm not certain.

The T9600 works. I've installed it into a 1545 before as a CPU upgrade. Everything up to a T9900 works. Even the E8435 pulled out of an Apple Mac works.

No, the 1545 and the N7010 are really different. You may be able to find the disassembly manual for the N7010 at support(dot)dell(dot)com. Unfortunately I haven't obtained one to make videos yet.

The CPU and memory would be able to change over but you would need to get the correct heatsink for the ATI motherboard.

Yes, but you wold have to replace the CPU, heatsink, and fan too.

I'm not sure if replacing the fan will fix it, I haven't come across that problem before. We sell the fans for $25. First, did you make sure to replace the thermal pads and or thermal compound on the heatsink? If you didn't, that could cause the fan to kick on to high speed.

Yeah I am it's only choice is the ati radeon intergrated into the mother biard or the origional mother board which has an intel 4 series graphics card. Also it was a mistake in the guy that sold me its part because it is a 845F or whatever just like my old one so I had to order a new one and this time it is definitely the h435n and I've got the new heat sink on order too :)

How do you unhook the lvds video cable under the keyboard? You skiffed right over it and time lapsed it.
@dellpartspeople
@dellpartspeople 10 ай бұрын
You're right about that. Let me try to explain: There should be a black plastic locking mechanism that holds the cable connector in place. It can be unsnapped by lifting it upwards away from the motherboard. After doing this you can disconnect the cable.

Hey, it is very nice video. I am writing to get some suggestions that I am having with my same model laptop..I have a weird startup problem with my same model laptop Dell Inspiring1545. I was googling it from long time and could not figure out any solution from anybody. My laptop turns on only once in week.For example, If I turn on Sunday it will run continuously without any problem, but if I shutdown either way by home button or power card pulling it won't boot to windows. It shows the dell logo after that it goes to black screen with blinking cursor and stops there. I tried multiple options like swapping and cleaning the RAMs, pressing F12 or F2 continuously. None of them worked. Only thing I have to do is wait approximately a week to get booted normally. I have also tried dell support assistant but it did not get install , because it is a windows Vista. It asks me to get windows 7 first. Even I tried to install windows 7 it did not go to BIOS and stops at dark screen with blinking white cursor. I could not understand the problem. Seems you are good expert and want to know if you have any suggestions. It will be a great help and I really appreciate it.

What is the name of motherboard dell inspiron 1545?
@Steveh112
@Steveh112 8 жыл бұрын
Hey I have a question I'm hoping you or someone can answer. I followed this procedure to replace the charger board on my Inspiron 1545 because it wasn't charging the battery. (That's the little piggy-back board on the left side that has the charger port, VGA port, and a couple USB ports on it). Prior to replacing that board, the laptop would run plugged in, but just wouldn't charge. After replacing it with a new board, it won't boot up at all. When I press the power button, the fan runs for a couple seconds and stops and the video display remains dark. However the power indicator light stays lit until I press the power button again to turn it off. So I took it back apart and put the original charger board back in, but still no good. So I then thought either the new charger board damaged the motherboard or I damaged it flexing it to remove. So I bought and installed a new mother board (and used the old original charger board in case that's what killed it) With a new motherboard, it still does the same thing as above and won't come on completely. I also turned it on with the memory removed and got the 2-beep bios error so I assume the CPU is working. I also tried it with the hard drive and optical drive, and wireless card removed to eliminate them as a cause of the problem. I have no idea what I might have done that killed it. I would really appreciate any advice or suggestions. Thanks!
