Delmar responds to MVC during National Night Out

Aug 4, 2017. Ride along with Delmar Fire Dept Paramedic B-74 responding to a Motor Vehicle Collision on Ocean Highway. Delmar Fire Dept attempted to participate in National Night Out, however, barely 20 minutes into the event, the first of two back-to-back MVC's in the first due required many of the firefighters and apparatus to leave the event to handle the calls.
This is video from the first call, on the Maryland side of the border. Paramedic B-74 and 74 Command respond from the event to the scene. Paramedic A-74 is close behind and Rescue 74 arrives on-scene a short time later. The video concludes with Paramedic B-74 transporting to the trauma center, but with much of the traffic slow or refusing to yield, the transport video is brief.

Love the grill lights on the rescue truck! Really eye-catching! Especially through the rear-view mirror i would guess.

@@roninhcfb5501 No he wasn't He was driving in the left lane and the chief was behind him for a while before he moved over to the right lane and out of the way. Obviously my one brain cell trumps your zero brain cells.

Fire and Rescue We were in pursuit of our own Command unit. We all left in a convoy from a public relations event to this accident. This was the first of two, then second one was very bad. I'll always remember this day. Thanks for watching!

I think states have to increase either penalties for or enforcement of failure to yield. The stakes are too high for left-lane hoggers to block emergency vehicles like that

Since the town is split in 2 across Delaware and Maryland, would it be proper to assume you guys cover the whole town regardless of state? (Which also explains the different sirens, state regs allowing for one but not the other)

Yes both sides are our first due and we are dispatched by both States and also have to communicate with both States for every call, regardless of which side of the border the call is on. All channels for each State are in the same channel bank on the radios. We are incorporated in both States, officially Station 74 in Delaware and Station 4 in Maryland, however we never use Station 4 for identification. Siren regulation isn't an issue however emergency lights are. Many FD's in Delaware use red and blue lights, in Maryland blue is illegal for Fire/EMS so only red and white on our units to comply with MD law. There are some odd ambulance regulations for ambulances in DE which require us to have some additional equipment that MD does not require. Also some radio procedures are slightly different between the States but mostly it's not as complicated as it might sound.

RTobi (Rummeltobi) The HGV pulled over a short time later. Traffic overall was just very uncooperative that day.
