I rarely have soupy puck on this one. But then proper sequence to employ this machine is to make your shot at lower temperature of the boiler, and only then proceed to the higher steam level of the heat. You don't have to dispose water, fiddling to cool it down. While making a shot and observing what strength of coffee is dripping into my cup, at certain point I substitute it with the second collector cup, that will get the tail of poor liquid cut into, then disposed. More handy than emptying tray. While you steam, water remains drain into second cup, and basket is handy to be emptied - sufficiently dry, usually I return to do this when making next cup. Also, I unscrew steam head to wash under tap water, as milk will mush inner-side, if cleaning externals only, one could also flush it by giving it use in some water.

I like my EC155. My first 2 were used and I just couldn't get good crema no matter what. Ultimately I replaced the pump and now it's awesome. The pump is critical and can easily wear out if abused. Abuse includes running a whole tank of water through the unit at once.

This Delonghi EC155 is the best coffee, espresso and cappuccino maker I ever owned!! I have one at home, one at the office, one in my temporary job locations (Itravel for work regularly to two other cities)! It’s easy to use, it’s easy to do several cappuccinos one right after the other; I actually love the tapper so I don’t have to look for it. The foam for the cappuccinos is perfect and the crema in the coffee (provided the coffee beans are of good quality and the ground size Is for espresso) is lovely! I can’t recommend this machine highly enough!

Pump the brew first, then while you steam the milk those last few precious drops get steamed out of the puck and when you clean up its dry. Also after you're done, use the shot glass full of water to immerse the steam nozzle, open the valve and clean the milk out from the inside.

There's tutorials online that show you how to depressurize (reversibly) the filter basket. Alternatively you can buy cheaply a depressurized filter basket for around £10, I highly recommend it (along with 52mm tamper and modding the steam wand), it really gives you a lot more control of the brewing process and make a great coffee.

Just bought this machine last week. I use a medium roast bean and grind very fine. I've noticed if you use half milk and half heavy cream you get better microfoam, and can do some decent latte art. It also helps make your drinks creamy. Also buy a frothing pitcher and a tamper. I bought a 12oz pitcher. The tamp that it comes with is absolutely garbage. They could've charged 10 more dollars and included a pitcher and tamp. Otherwise if used properly and kept clean. It pours a wonderful shot for a non commercial machine.

einstini15 I believe you just need to find a portafilter with the same diameter as this one. I got the La Pavoni millennium and later 2 cup filter (exact name on Amazon) and it fit pretty well. Mine machine was the old version so it was easy to make the handle bottomless but it wasn't necessary with this particular filter. Most guys swap the steam wand for a rancilio Silvia steam wand.

I have 2 questions - sorry in advance if they have already been answered here! 1. How many grams of coffee should I grind for the double basket? I have seen 18 grams elsewhere. 2. How long should I wait (or how much volume of coffee should I measure) before shutting this off? I do not have an eye for when it is complete. I have read 25 seconds once liquid starts pouring out. Alternatively, should I wait for volume? 2-2.5 oz = 60-75 mL I have a burr grinder, a scale, and a timer. I have previously always done either french press or drip coffee and just got this machine. I want to be able to set a timer, let it run, and get something that works - a baseline of sorts. What I have done does not give me a good shot, and I do not know where I need to make adjustments.
@mjbartending
@mjbartending 4 жыл бұрын
Hi Evan, couldn't help but notice your unanswered question. I will tell you what I know, no affiliation with SCG though. Yes in between 18 and 20 grams for a double. More important however, is the grind size. You will need to experiment with your grind size to get a double shot out in 25 seconds. First drip should come out at around 5 seconds. I have a short video on dialing in my DeLonghi with my Graef grinder, check it out, hope it helps.

This (sans 'm') was my first espresso machine! It served me well for a couple of years before I upgraded to a Delonghi ESAM3300 super-auto (purchased from SCG.) The EC155 was an inexpensive and non-intimidating introduction to espresso at home. Nice if you don't have a whole lot of money to spend on a hobby you aren't too sure about. Only thing standing in the way of your brew quality at that point is your grinder; results with a non-burr type weren't impressive. I used ground Lavazza, and occasionally splurged on Illy.

I just bought this expresso machine yesterday. Tried to make 3 to 4 expresso. Oh my God, I hate how much time and how much steps it take to have one ! First, you shoud heat the filter-porter twice by "making" 2 expressos without ground coffee. Then you have to preheat the cup (it is made by the time you let hot water goes through the filter-porter, but anyway, you should already put this cup under the machine and can't put milk or sugar before. Then yes, tamper the ground coffee with the integrated tamper is not that easy. After that, you should know that the size of the cup must be very limited, because of the size of the machine, very compact. So as mentionned, you will have to use one more cup (a bigger one, and of course pre-heated also) to pour your expresso inside (as illustrated in this video). The quality of extraction seems to be ok. But as mentionned after that : What a souppy puck you get ! If you don't clean it right away, it wil continue to drop (8:01). And the steam/hot water will continue to leak also, you can see this problem (8:10 and more) So be prepare to have so much handwork to make a little expresso. And as you can see, the space for the milk pot is really not large. It's not quiet easy to put the pot under the steam, but after you get the foam, good luck for not spill some ! I bought it 115 $ instead of 180$ (that's why I decided to buy it), but I will return it today, because I know I will get angry every morning. Coming back at my filter coffee. I already get a Saeco full automatic machine. It was quiet a pain to clean it every week or so, but at least, you had just to push a button to get your coffee :-)

After having my Breville Barista Express I don't think I could live without a 3 way solenoid valve anymore, it just makes things easy and cleaner. Not having to waste time to purge the water after steaming milk nor having to worry about having coffee drip everywhere when you are binning the puck. Anthony (Andy) Devid What is your budget? What is your espresso experience? Are you willing to put in the effort to get a good cup of espresso? All machines will need cleaning and routine maintenance, there is no way around it. Super Automatics make it a lot easier if you want to be lazy and let the machine do all the work, however Super Autos need extra care in cleaning and upkeep. They do make great espressos, at least the expensive ones. I would go with a high end grinder of say $350+ and go with a regular machine in the $400 range. This way you have total control

Allright, you get very short push if device was not allowed to warm/rewarm couple of times before you use it. Accumulated heat prolongs the shot. You can speed warming cycle by doing couple of shots without coffee. Then, on single shot, for real espresso you do not even need more of the hot water, than sensor would allow. It is quite usual for italian style to have strong coffee on the bottom of the cup only, that's espresso. On double shot I stop pumping water when sensor triggers, and allow to reheat for the rest of the shot. You can keep in mind, that only water incoming into the boiler is colder and triggers sensor, while that in the exit/basket still carries higher heat, which may suffice.

I took your advice and got the ec155 to get into espresso. After tasting espresso from coffee shops, I now know that the espresso I make at home isn't as intense even with fresh beans. Would the next step up from this be the Breville Duo Temp Pro? Oh and it could also be my grinder that may be the cause of weaker espresso. I have the Baratza Encore set to the finest setting. As mentioned in previous videos, it's not for espresso. I was also looking at the Barista Express 870XL so that I wouldn't have to fuss over the grinder (it does cost a lot more though). Thanks as always and keep up the great work!

Mine is now turning in a watered down cup. Any ideas? Am I not letting it heat up enough? Pressing it as hard as I can.

Ok guys i have a question about this machine, because i have the same machine. I can see here that the milk frothing it looks good and with lots of foam and i get that sometimes, but sometimes the frothing is different, sometimes my milk is peaceful and its foam is getting like here, but sometimes my milk is circling inside, just like some professional wands and idk why is that, because that really confusing me? Is it because that the milk is whole or are there some other circumstances?

I just took mine out of storage. Was working fine when I put it away but now leaks from the internal filter. Requires special tool to take apart. Not recommended for service so this turned out to be a temporary appliance and is now worthless. It did save me from buying lattes at the local shop so it long ago paid for itself but very disappointing that it died solely from being put in storage for a few months.

Question for you, should you do some pre-infusion prior to pulling your full shot? If so, what might that look like in terms of pre-infusion time? Thanks so much for the detailed review! I also hate the inverted tamper, do you have any that fit this pressurized basket well?
