I call that space a froot too. What a great project, giving this icon a new lease on life. I can't think of a better thing to do for a De Lorean. I'm a little envious of your job and of your client's car.

I’m wondering what’s happening to all the Tesla’s donating their motors and batteries - are they crashing and getting totalled? Why so many? I know they’re popular and have a lot of sales, but is there a problem?

Yes, here in Australia, we have Many design and Engineering "hoops" to jump through to "allow" a modified vehicle on the Road, VERY different than America. Even some of the most basic engine mods are Forbidden in Australia, like better Carburators in petrol vehicles, My brother who is a Mechanic Wanted to put a Better Valley cover and Carburetor on his HZ Holden, (this was in about 1985) Which would make it more fuel economic and have lower emissions, was told he couldn't change it, the Car HAD to stay ORIGINAL, as produced. This is the kind of Bullshit we have to put up with in Australia. Good luck to you guys, at EVolution, I hope things are Better now in What "they" are allowing in car Engineering than back then.

Only thing I dont like about using Telsa motors is that you have to completely replace the axles. Myself I prefer the look of a solution that connects without replacing the original axles. Ie via the original gearbox where possible. But if you have the budget for this advanced work then good on you.

This will be interesting to follow. I have an abandoned Fiat X1/9 EV convertion project. Both these cars would be som much better in EV discuese

Totally agree.. There are some cars that totally deserve the electric treatment.. and the X/19 is definitely one of them!

Yes, the Delorean is already complied for Australia with the current motor and in left hand drive.

@@electriccarcafeatevolution4319 Already been done in the US with a Leaf motor, kzfaq.info/get/bejne/ps1hZMtqvJuxY4U.html But would be interesting to see it given an even more powerful Tesla motor which would do it justice. Interestingly the DMC was bought over by a new owner who still supplies spare parts from the 1980s inventory they bought over. Back in 2012 they put out some YT videos about custom-designed Electric DeLoreans they were going to build with their spareparts, then went all quiet about it - probably because it wasn't going to be economical to do so.

There’s nothing “optimal” about 50/50 weight distribution. It’s equal, yes, but there’s nothing optimal about it. According to Ferrari, 44/56 is the number they shoot for. Think about the best cars out there- they all have more weight on the rear. This car was designed as 63% on the rear, and that was a bit too much. Nevertheless, Lotus managed to make the chassis stable. With the tiny front tires and big rears on this car, you’ll make quite a mess of it if you make it with 50/50. Plowing understeer will be the result. The rear non-ABS brakes will lock easily on braking if you take too much weight off. The rear tires will spin too easily on launch and you won’t get good hook-up. Aim for something closer to 56% on the rear and you’ll be glad you did.
