What a beauty and my all-time favorite airliner. My mom worked for Ozark back in the day and it was pretty much the perfect airline. Nothing like like sitting in the back near the resonating power plants.

I literally cannot count the number of times I rode on Air Canada DC-9-32s from 1976 to 1985 with my parents, and for a few years after that alone on business trips of my own! A truly classic airliner - noisy as hell, but that was in itself part of the appeal!

My dad flew for Eastern till they closed down. He would always say this was his favorite plane to fly. Called it a real pilot's plane. He would say, with a light load, this thing seemed like it would fly straight up.

Some comments about DC-9s being louder than the MD-80; Absolutely! The MD-80 series (JT8D-219) were loud, but nothing compared to the deafening, ground shaking, car alarm activating, ear shattering thunderous roar of early JT8D-7/ -9, /-15, /-17 engines. Not even by a long shot. I miss the music they produced. Thunderstorms in broad daylight. (Not exaggerating).

Growing up approx 5 miles from Hartsfield airport in 1970s - 80s, I clearly remember hearing the rumble out in the distance, sure it was from these JT8D's and maybe a few JT3Ds from DC-8s. I do remember the CV-880s when I was very young in early 70s, mainly remember the black smoke trails; wondered if the airplane was on fire!

The DC 9 is known for its Pratt and Whitney JT8D engines. Great sound. The Boeing 727 had 3 of those engines and was extremely noisy...

Not as loud as the 720 or the 727 but it's still very loud and I love it used to live by an airport and I love them flying over our apartments it was great the smell and the noise.

Very nice! The -50 was the first DC9 with the nose stall fins, and the last one with JT8D-xx engine, mostly-15s/17s. After that they were -2xx with the MD80. Most -50 and -40s went to foreign airlines, though Delta had many 50s. I believe this was the fuselage template for the MD-90, but with bigger engines, I think IAE, which eventually became the B-717

Unless you love the engine sound, (like I do) then you're not going to enjoy the experience. I sat in row 24 and it was loud as all get out, but I enjoyed every second of the trip.

Back when Delta meant 'Doesn't Ever Leave the Airport'! LOL I used to take that flight on Allegheny to get to Myrle Beach. DFW to Dayton, quick stop, and on to Charlotte, eventually the pilot would find Myrtle Beach. MB in those days was a joint field, so many times commercial aircraft had to hold until the USAF was on the ground.

We acquired some -50's from Eastern airlines that sat on the ground for a few months after Eastern went out of business. Besides resident roaches and mice, numerous parts from -30's or MD-80's won't fit on a -50. Every leg I flew required at least four maintenance writeups.

No it's not. All these videos were taken within 3 hours of each other. There's no way a pilot could fly to wherever, fly back, then fly out again in 3 hours. Also, they would stick to just one kind of aircraft. They wouldn't switch back and forth unless it was permanent. Thanks for watching!

Yes, I know. However, since the 727 was such a rare sight at that time, the -9 was the loudest plane to listen to at the airport.

I agree 727 louder. Normal. 3 engine vs 2. I like the sound of both planes. DC 9 because I used to fly on them regularly. 727 is great too. The loudness is SO intense. You can feel the power!

I disagree. It's understandable since you're not an aviation person. Us enthusiasts however, love these classics and would pay top dollar to ride on them and experience what the good aviation days were like. Nowadays, the airline industry has seriously gone down the drain and it's sad because it makes flying seem like a dreaded transportation system to the world and we hate when people dis flying because it's such an incredible experience that everyone should be able to enjoy, and not be treated like cattle by the select few employees who were desperate for some sort of job.

MD881212 Nope too loud and they are big polluters! They're too old and run down junks!
@LeppAviation
@LeppAviation 10 жыл бұрын
02Nawal Well like I said, that's what a normal person would say... It's not like those are going to cause global warming anyways... And they are one of the longest lasting commercial aircraft in existence, so they are not pieces of junk by any definition of the word. Sure, they're old, they've had their time. Every single one of them though has lots of life left in it. And us aviation lovers would love to see that being fulfilled and not see those planes be hated on because they're too loud. Sit in the damn front if it's too loud. It's actually pretty quiet in the front few rows. Don't judge a book by its cover because the plane is too "old" and "loud" because it's probably one of the safest planes you'll fly on and I and hundreds of other aviation enthusiasts don't want to hear it.
@02Nawal
@02Nawal 10 жыл бұрын
MD881212 sweetie you're very smart & obviously know planes better than me! I like flying in them but that's pretty much it! I hate small planes & I've flown a lot of MD 80's starting with AeroMexico! Recently I've flown a lot on Allegiant Air's MD 80's! I was frighten to death flying their old run down over used planes! Every Allegiant Air MD80 I've been on had mechanical issues and the ware & tare on the plane was horrid! Plane sounded like crap! I literally thought the plane was going to fall apart mid air! Thank God AeroMexico retired their MD 80's a long time ago! Remember the DC9's? Those have a high crash rate record! So does the MD 80 series! I didn't feel safe in any of those Allegiant Air planes! They're over 22 years old! I don't think those loud polluters should be allowed to fly!
