I was in the U.S. Army, I was an infantryman and I was in Iraq fighting in 2004 when this was going on. I was there when soldiers shot the wrong person and were going to prison for it. It's a war, things happen, accidents happen, Infantrymen aren't special forces and they aren't trained snipers Infantrymen are good shooters, we trained a lot at shooting, but once the first round flies past an infantryman's most of that training goes right out the window and you try to survive what is happening. I can't tell you how many times our ROE (Rules Of Engagement) changed when I was in Iraq. First it was just shoot anything and everything, then only shoot people that were hostile, then shoot people using weapons to hurt people, and so on and so on. It finally go to the point where we had to spot the person shooting at us, so we had to hide behind cover looking for the person shooting at us while rounds were going down range. It was so stupid that we had to wait to fight back, just so none of us went to prison.

14:00 I'm not sure which contractor you worked for in Afghanistan but I was a M2 .50 cal gunner on a MRAP in Iraq and we definitely DID escort civilian logistics contractors, which were mainly KBR and some TCN truck drivers every time they left the wire at Joint Base Balad/LSA Anaconda/Mortaritaville. Which wasn't much fun since the biggest threat in Iraq was IEDs and EFPs on and under the roads, and our missions were to constantly be on the roads. And no surprise we got hit or rather hits. So I'm not sure why you didn't get military gun-truck escorts, especially since you said you were transporting military equipmen. Maybe the British military operates differently or Afghanistan different high-risk situations/environments. Glad you made it back alive with all your pieces still attached and with most of your sanity, relatively speaking.

He worked for a shipping company like Maersk, he was saying that they had to have contractors because the military was too busy fighting the war

@@HoneyKrisp69I see what you're saying. But logistics is the most important factor in war, without a good supply chain it doesn't matter how hard you fight. And the Taliban/Al Qaeda knows this, which is why they would target our supply chain. So I still think it was a poor decision for the UK military to not provide security. The military has much more capabilities compared to a private security/mercenaries, like air support, QRF, intel, ect..

@@HoneyKrisp69there are cases of guys such as Daz from similar shipping companies you mentioned (logistical guys, literally nothing to do with a country's military or any private military company) being captured and receiving horrific deaths at the hands of terror groups

SAS are highly trained and skilled. The selection is the toughest in the world and it’s the longest active special missions group in the world. They rescued Times magazine reporter Stephen Farrell in Afghanistan who was captured by the Taliban. Respect to all the special forces from America, Britain, Canada and Israel

I'd say it's the US without the bias of living here (as I'm not the most patriotic anymore lol) but without the UK and their SAS showing us the ropes? Who knows where our special forces would have been now. Respect to those who came before, especially since they inspired and helped us. But when shit hits the fan in a hypothetical scenario? I'll take any of our main allies Special Forces in over our enemies in heartbeat .

This response time, and ability to get results, are what happens when civilian bureaucrats get out of the way, and let professionals work. That being said, our allied militaries wouldn't have wasted lives and resources on invading Iraq in the first place, if bigmouth politicians hadn't started shit for the sake of looking tough, saving GW Bush's low approval ratings, and hooking up their friends at Halliburton, Raytheon, etc. We should have kept Saddam in our pocket against Iran like we had before. The ME would be so much more stable than it is now.
