I've watched this video 30 times. It's definitely increased my knowledge and capability when it comes to this stuff. Could you guys do a video that shows other wiring techniques? Like, how you link up lines for headlights etc... Like fusing the front and rear positive for the right turn signals, so they are singular when they head into the M-unit.

We did do a video that covers a few splicing and soldering techinques, but its easy to miss cause its title is about heat shrink. Anyway here is a link kzfaq.info/get/bejne/n9J2dbSlkrLQiqM.html

That fuse holder/ terminals are really high amp applications. Good shit!. Larry

Great video. What wire gauge does the M-Unit recommend? just looking into this unit as I need a wiring overhaul. Cheers!

The m-Unit manual does list recommended wire gauges, but their suggestions are very conservative (meaning, they specify larger gauge than necessary). On our builds we use 18 gauge copper TXL with cross linked insulation for the output wires, and 22 gauge for the inputs. The main power feed wire gauge is best determined by the main fuse you are using, on our bikes we go with 12 gauge wire which is rated upto 40 amps.

....right at the beginning....speaker wire? I bought a 1972 Sporty that had head-phone wire running several things...including the main ignition/battery wiring.....and then....there were the pistons installed backwards...by a 'bike shop'.....probably why the guy selling it said it was 'hard to kick over'......fortunately, he didn't ride it long enough to cause serious damage....

If you work on old bikes you'll see all kinds of butchery, and some of the absolute worst work comes from so called professionals. We've seen bikes that came from known specialist restoration shops that claim the bike is as close to factory perfect as possible only to find a .015" piston/cylinder clearance, and a piston that was clearly run with a broken valve, and push rods made of hardware store aluminum tubing. They were betting that the bike was going to a collector or museum, never expected anyone would ever try to ride it, or check their work...criminals

Do the solid state auto reset 5-20 amp fuses fit in that fuse holder?
@RevivalCycles
@RevivalCycles 7 жыл бұрын
The circuit breakers do not fit in this fuse holder. Unfortunately the cap is too small for them to fit. However, it you wanted to use this fuse holder without the cap it will work with standard circuit breaker fuse replacements. Just note that the fuse holder that comes in the Deluxe Cable kit is for a standard blade fuse size, but the multi circuit distribution modules use mini blade fuses.

.... 5:00 ferrules.....good idea, I used to 'tin' the ends of my wiring with solder.....
@RevivalCycles
@RevivalCycles 7 жыл бұрын
Tinning with solder works, and is way better than stuffing loose strand in the terminals. But it still leaves potential for fatigue failure where the tinning wicks into the insulation. Tin + heat shrink would help support the transition and reduce the potential for fatigue failure.

So if you pay close attention to wicking and you use longer heat shrink would be ok?
@RevivalCycles
@RevivalCycles 7 жыл бұрын
Yes this is ok, the ferrules are a nice touch and my preferred method, but if those weren't available tinning and heat shrink is the next best option.
