@@stephenhanbury They recently uploaded a video about Tawantinsuyu. At the end of the video it looked like we can expect a Tawantinsuyu playthrough. So I assume they are coming back? I haven't seen it explicitly stated anywhere, but with the recent upload, I would think they do plan on coming back in some fashion.

The single best upgrade you can get or your boardgames is a 3D-printer and the Thingiverse website. I've printed box inserts, component upgrades, token capsules, custom dice, replacement meeples, deck boxes, minis, wargaming terrain... all on an Ender 3 that cost me less than $200 that paid for itself by taking commissions to do custom bits and boxes for my friends.

I agree that a 3D printer can be the best upgrade (it was for me too). However, you shouldn't expect it being a set it and forget it solution. 3D printing takes time and effort to get right. So if you don't want to mess with a 3D printer, it's a bad investment. Also, less that $200? Just for the materials I guess? The printer itself usually costs more than that.

Thanks for the video! I tend to always deluxify and usually with an all-in. I really shouldn't, and I do find where I don't always need or even use the deluxified components. Usually playmats and cool looking dice.

I bought a 3D printer last year for engineering projects for school and now it’s mainly being used to make board game inserts. Lol. So much fun and so much cheaper than buying them outright.

@@BoardGameCo not sure if you know about Thingiverse.com but it has tons and tons of inserts for pretty much any game you could want and files are free to download. You can even take the files and modify them and remind them if you want.

I've gotten the upgrades when I first got root but I've also got the baggies that catered to each faction. Instead of using plastic bags. I love the cosmetic look that it brings

For a small bit I started making my own foam core inserts for games that I couldn’t find inserts for, and that would be a couple days work as I constantly measured everything but it was a little bit more rewarding, plus I got to make the trays in a way that I use it in the game, eg if I had a deck of cards sit on the board I’d may a tray to hold that one deck of cards that can easily be picked up.

I have something similar for viticulture and it was 100% worth it. Getting them for the Scythe Big Box and Lost Ruons of Arnak as wel. Those games desperately need inserts

@@ntmetroid I did the same with Scythe Legendary Box got a folded space insert for it, coins and realistic resources, one thing I'm debating on getting is the wooden tokens for Albion/Togawa factions + encounter token upgrades.

@@joshuag7027 i got a pretty cool wooden insert off etsy that has the faction logos burned into each players box. Its pretty sweet. I also have the resources/coins. Also found a place selling all the kickstarter promos (cards, metal 2’s and 50’s, and player dials for remaining colors). I saw some cool glass upgrades for the faction and exploration tokens that im tempted to get. Theyre really cool but pricey

Best upgrade is wooden insert since I love to organise my boardgames. Especially if you have a lot of components and cards. We especially bought the gloomhaven together with the broken token insert, so before we unboxed the game we’ve already built the insert. Very expensive, but best purchase for the game.

The root bits and the viticulture bits are gorgeous. If I played Root enough I would get those for sure, might pick up the Viticulture upgrades. The Viticulture coins are among my favorite metal coin sets (I bought 2 sets) and I have A LOT of different metal coin sets. Not sure there is a way to make CoB look deluxe....but I did get an insert for it which helped. For Arnak, I designed a 3D printed insert which I put up on Thingiverse. I also replaced the compasses with real mini compasses that look awesome.

Love the Root miniatures- they have also made the game easier to teach (for this reason, I use the original cardboard circle tokens to differentiate from buildings - except the keep!). For Viticulture I went back to the wood pieces. Like you say, they feel better to me too.

I went down the rabbit hole of getting a 3D printer and printed all the tiles for Terraforming Mars before the big box KS was announced. So glad I did though. Might have to reprint Arnak's insert when the expansion comes out.

I've just come home from a visit to my FLGS when I saw your video, and what do you know, one of the things I bought was the metal coins for Viticulture :) Another one I got was the Iron Clays game counters (basically poker chips), which I intend to use for Brass: Birmingham.

You can print compasses like that by putting a pause in the slicer, and change filament.

Can you do a video where you talk about the best storage solution for card games? I’m specifically thinking about marvel champions but I’d be helpful for loads of different games. There are loads of storage solutions for marvel champions and I have no idea which is best.

On a side note, before I got involved with KS, a coworker of mine pointed out the special 3D Catan edition and the War of the Rings special edition but they had already soared on Ebay so I jumped on board the latest Ares Games collector's editions in that series which sufficed. Turns out that to some degree these direct offerings are a bit stealthy and their values are quite high already too. So for those looking for a deluxe Catan check out their pre-order for a 3D version coming soon.

Hi Alex, Do you think it is wise to go “All-in” on Deluxification add-ons on kickstarter (for game you in most cases didn’t play), or spend tens or hundreds on Deluxifications related to games you already own and like? From my point of view you can get the items cheaper elsewhere, but if you count delivery for each, you can match or even get over the Amount from KS. And I don’t count time spent.

Hope you have fun with the 3D printer! I would love to have the space to own one. You probably have already seen the Bits Please series from Ryan (Nights around a table) ? A very interesting series about 3d printing board game bits. He is great at telling the story of his 3d printing journey. He also made an Arnak insert - which I wonder if that is where you got the idea :)

Improved Star Trek Fleet Captains by making new map tiles with space backgrounds. Also covered all the cards. But the big improvement I made was taking all the ships and after carefully removing them from the click bases I replaced them with Micro Machine Star Trek ships. Not only are they nearly the same size but they are all painted and look great. A bit pricey but the game looks much better now. Otherwise I got a really nice tackle box for all my Gloomhaven pieces. Every pull out tray is labeled and it makes getting what you need much quicker. Otherwise I've spent quite a bit getting card covers for Star Trek Frontiers, Gloomhaven and Arkham Horror LCG. There's other things I've done but you get the point. Lol.

I have gotten two inserts so far. Xia: legends of a Drift System and Food Chain Magnate (FCM had the card holders Incorporated). Those have been very worth the money. I would only get inserts for games I play a lot (FCM) or are hard to play without an insert (Xia). I feel my wife and I get into Gloomhaven, I will definitely be getting that insert.

The Root bits look nice, but I can never bring myself to purchase them because of two reasons. For one, they seem to make the board too busy and confusing. But more importantly they require you to make an adjustment to a very important rule to the game: You get points for removing cardboard from the map. It's such an easy thing to teach because the meeples are wood, everything else is cardboard. I guess you could simply say "you get points for removing plastic from the map", but a lot of people seem to replace the meeples with plastic figurines as well, increasing the confusion.

In my opinion inserts are the most important upgrade (depending on game) because of how faster it becomes to set up and store games with many components (Anachrony, TI4). Foldedspace is great, many different inserts and at a great price point (€13.5 and up I think, gloomhaven for €33.5) Another must have upgrade are the meeples for Lords of Waterdeep, it's much por thematic to grab fighters and rogues rather than orange cubes and black cubes

Shame that BGexpansions doesn't sell STL files so people can make their own bits in resin, which would be much higher quality. They have some really nicely designed things.

Alex I need your help. Games these days are coming out with too many boxes. I have scoured the net for solutions and have come up next to no solutions. Do you have any thoughts on containing say an all in CMON pledge or are we doomed to be one day be found in our game rooms squished by an avalanche of zombicide and marvel united expansions?

A cheaper alternative DIY of dice tray is using a small 3D picture frame (deep frame), just line the inside with cloth or foam if you dont like the noise.

It's a good idea, but for $10 vs $2, I'd go with a dice tray myself, but I can understand going with the frame.

Hey Alex, I reached out to Leder Games regarding a potential token/component upgrade for Root and they said that at the moment it's not something they're discussing. Personally, I would love wooden tokens to keep with the current aesthetic. The 3D tokens are tempting, but I've found much of Root's charm in the little wooden warrior meeples. Thoughts?

I'm sheepishly going back to the Marvel United: X-Men pledge manager to make sure I didn't miss anything as my all-in with add-ons, classic bundle, and split shipping was much closer to $700 than $800.

I like tu create my own inerts; Dirt cheap fast en easy, I just use some cheap white foamboard and hot glue and I'm always so pleased with myself when I'm done.

If you don't mind getting another expensive hobby, you can 3D-print a lot of upgrade for pretty much all boardgames. Also: inserts!

I loooove upgrading favorite games, but - with a few exceptions ‐ I prefer natural materials like wood, metal, leather to plastic. (Yeah I'm not into minis. 😁) And maybe I'm a simple soul but I think Viticulture's bits are lovely just as they are.

In between this deluxified bits video and the last, I've shelled out over $100 to deluxify every bit and bob of my copy of Wingspan and I blame you Alex! Well not really, those 3d printed resources & birds are just too nice to say no to (especially when the game is that good!)

The only reasons why I don't buy It, for Root are: the absence of vagabonds' items (if I replace with deluxe, I replace everything), and the unpratical crows' tokens.

@@BoardGameCo Maybe I am changing my mind: I'm thinking to purchase the sets from BGE, but only for replacing buildings and clearing markers (I prefer those printed by BGE over the original resin ones). I find no need to replace wooden pieces (I like them more), nor rounded token. I'll keep cardboard tokens for these reasons: - Because of the crows' bug, - For better distinguish tokens from buildings. - If you look all cardboard tokens are nicely drawn, while squared buildings have ugly generic symbols. Maybe I could do an exception for the fortress token, which is majestic 3D printed!

I consider buying Battle Systems Urban Core Set for my Zombicide 2.0. I've been checking the pictures for like a week now, like a little boy that walks around a toy shop every day. It looks awesome, but I worry it might disrupt the gameplay. It's like 80€ + 15€ for some extra stuff I chose.. so a lot of money to me. Does anybody have an experience playing Zombicide with 3D walls pls?

Assume you have an FDM printer. It does take more effort to get good with FDM yet Resin is more of a hassle post processing but aesthetically Resin is orders of magnitude more detailed especially the new 4K printers. Still those tokens you showed are pretty simply prints on FDM even the multi layer ones. Use both and for inlays I'd use FDM but for Minis or detailed items then Resin is by far the best option... Resin printers are normally cheaper but the Resin is more costly and pretty toxic until UV cured so handling is a pain especially if you have kids around. I got rid of my Resin printers a few years ago but recently just picked up a new one specifically for Board Game stuff... some of the new ones such as from Elegoo and Anycubic etc are so much better along with water washable Resins and AIO Wash Cure stations. Maybe a colab with one of the 3D printer KZfaqrs?

I don't like 3D printed stuff unless it is a weighty, resin print. They feel like cheap toys. I prefer handmade, painted wooden or metal upgrades. They're so expensive but make it that much different when you play.

Recently bought Dune Imperium after I found out about the upgrade pack. Heard good reviews except that the tokens weren’t getting the theme across and the board was bland. Now with the upgrade pack it’s just the board that’s bland.

Yeah, really wished that Root 3D token set has a set of alternative corvid traps with 3D art carved inwards into a thick token, so they lay flat and hidden faced down, also ur missing the BGG store bags for Root, actually nvm Alex, u don't even like Root, I hate u XD

Castles of Burgundy "deluxe" is more of a downgrade. Holy crap how did they botch that production so badly that it made me miss the old art? It needed a Brass: Lancashire/Birmingham treatment and instead, we got the Monopoly treatment.

Two things: I got the first print run. So the box is garbage, the black hex is missing from the front of the black depot tiles, and the icons are very tiny. Other than that, I like how it looks.
