Today we're going to be trying out a neat like pen and paper game called Delve wherein we take command of a dwarven citadel and illustrate it's progress through the stone.

If you enjoyed this, here's a playlist of Delve videos done by Dwarfcomic: • Silverdreams 1 - DELVE
---------
Special thanks to Anna Blackwell for making Delve- Go check it out: www.blackwellwriter.com/

As much as I like Dwarf Fortress, in relation to you, I see it more as a tool for your stories. It's the framework and ruleset you have to build around. For me, you could really use any medium/game that offers similar structures and freedom, like this one, and still make it great. So, yeah. I wouldn't mind seeing more of Delve or anything else you could wrap your imagination around!

Similar Dungeon-Drawing games worth trying: - How to Host a Dungeon, by Tony Dowler, in which you generate the Dungeon of a particular civilisation and play it out over the eons of its life cycle. - No Country for Old Kobolds, by Steve Wallace, in which you generate the map of a continent divided in several countries with a Kobold village trying to survive in the middle. - Ironsworn Delve, by Shawn Tomkin, an extension of the Viking-themed procedural roleplaying game, that will let you explore the deepest, darkest reaches of the Ironlands.

How to Host a Dungeon (the first version) is a very fun tool: I've used it a lot to create realistic dungeons for tabletop RPG campaigns in the past. I don't host very long campaign anymore and mainly play one-shots, but the fact that the protagonist is the dungeon itself is a very unique concept.

i think a consideration is that these are dwarves, so the air pollution they might be concerned about *might be entirely ungerground*. Really it would make sense for a society that lives almost exclusively underground that air quality control would be among the central functions of government much like water purity is for us.
@bookpenguin8818
@bookpenguin8818 2 жыл бұрын
I had an idea that was somewhat like this. The dwarves burn the plentiful fossil fuels of their nation for heat and power. However, since they aren’t all that advanced, they don’t know how to route the exhaust all the way to the surface without it all leaking back in. Their forts are obviously low-lying, so CO2 and the like collect inside. Thus, they use a system of empty lava tubes below their forges to vent the smog. After generations of doing this, the lava tubes are nearly full. They don’t have pickaxes strong enough to break open the tubes themselves, relying on natural holes. Their plan is to utilize the energies of the Void Crystal to blow a hole in the tubes before they fill and suffocate the forts: The smog will vent out of the tubes and blow east, out of the kingdom. From there, it’s not the dwarves’ problem.

Hey Krugg, I was looking into this game and realized that you might have missed a step that could have saved your fortress from an amphibious fate. At the start of the book it says to create five soldiers in your entryway when you begin (step 3 of starting the game on page 2) and while most of them would have still been turned into a dwarven smear on the stairs it might have been enough to keep you in the game. Hope this helps, if not then sorry and have a good one!
@dr_kav2k
@dr_kav2k 2 жыл бұрын
I believe you missed this point in the "Starting the game" rules, point 3: "Create a section in your notepad to track your units, **and note that you have five Soldiers (page 6) at the Entrance.**" - so you actually supposed to start with a sizeable force.

@@kruggsmash Happens! You are right, some rules in those games are murky (for example, troops need a room to be stationed in, so does that mean the Entrance can station those units, or do they have to move to the first Barracks available?). I do hope you give it another go! Or, perhaps, another flavour of game from the same author? Umbra is a later game by the same person with a sci-fi twist, and it's considered to be more rules-mature and varied. (Space Dorfs? One can dream..)
@TheNextDecade244
@TheNextDecade244 2 жыл бұрын
@@kruggsmash To be fair, with the way you've generated your nation it absolutely makes sense why they'd have embarked with no soldiers. After all, their lands are peaceful and tranquil, with the exception of all the pollution, so they wouldn't have expected the sheer poor luck of having an elder monstrosity living so close to the surface.

@@kruggsmash I mean I do have to say this did at lest did lead to a rather amusing first play through. Let's just say that do to a bureaucratic oversight the funds that was supposed to be used to station a 5 dwarf military garrison at the fortresses base "accidentally" got "redistributed" to the dear leaders personal funds. While you brave dwarves may have died, the great party still lives on despite your set back. All your belongings and holding will be now be claimed and redistributed to the people. And by "to the people" we mean the heads of the party.

I would love to see a golin fort, where they are firced to dig into the earth to escape a crusade to purge the goblins from the land. They dig to build a new life, dig to flee, but most of all, they dig to seek revenge. Tales speak of many legendary items burried in secret vaults beneath the lands. Who knows, maybe they will be lucky, maybe they will find exactly what they are looking for... or perhaps their desperate attempts to flee into the earth is simply them prolonging their ultimate fate. You're an excellent storyteller, and this game complements your channel's identity perfectly. Some people will instinctively miss your Dwarf Fortress content, but at the end of the day it's just one tool for you to craft your stories. I think branching out from Dwarf Fortress into these types of role-playing games will still deliver the kind of experience your audience expects and lets you try new things. Go for it!

I absolutely love your content. Everything you've done demonstrates your passion and creativity for the subjects. i honestly came and stayed here for the DF content, but if this is the level of care you put into spin-off content, i wholeheartedly support you branching out so you can enjoy yourself and bring us even more neat videos and concepts!
