How could you not love your job when you get to operate these machines all day. A young boy;s dream come true.

Got one of its little brothers, the H185 working in a pit in scotland, still going strong to this day! Quite a rare sight nowadays, the Damags, I know a big place in spain where they have masses of used plant for sale, might be able to find one or two Demags in there, they got an old Poclain 300 shovel there, that would look good on my lawn...if I had one!

I like how you get excited by the equipment I'm just glad I'm not the only one!

@PAmining Thanks. There were two Demags in that mine, one with a 2,000 Hp electric motor, the smaller one 1,500 hp. I thought they were awesome, but not by todays standards. I appreciate the info, thanks again, have a good weekend!

I love your your videos Justin, I have photos of these old beasts at Quintette Coal mine in British Columbia where my dad used to work before the mine closed down in 2000, solid machines, Suncor JUst retired one of there Demag 855's I think thats what it is, but I had a great experience, I got to spend half the day up in 11-37 shovel, an O&K RH400 up where I work at Syncrude Aurora, thats the job I want someday when ever I get off truck.

@PAmining Thank you very much for the help! I only found one photo of a 485 online so far. I think other people here would want to see your photos too. I am thinking how much money it cost to ship it across the country, set it up, then shortly after, it goes overseas? Wow. Almost as much money as the military, but I guess the machine earns its pay, makes the company profitable.

I worked for a trucking company "Lucia Specialized Hauling", that transported, and helped assemble a Demag shovel about ten years ago. They hauled it from Arizona to Pennsylvania coal mines. I think Arizona was too hot for hydraulics, the lines kept bursting? I think the machine occupied 18 truck loads. I wish I could remember anything more.

@PAmining I tried to do a Google search, to learn more about it. But I guess they are gone, sent to Africa in 2007, I think? Damn, I do not have any photos of the machine. I try to tell people about how massive it was. An electrical substation had to be built for the shovel, i think that it was connected by a cable, and the machine only moved maybe 1/2 MPH? People think I am full of crap. I may have the statistics wrong, but I cannot find any info about it either:((

@tld5500 That might have been an H485SE that we used to have working in Pennsylvania. Because that machine came from ARASCO is Arizona

@tld5500 Yep yep, that's definitely the 485SE. Went from ARASCO to Pennsylvania and then to Africa. That machine had brute power! That cable was a pain in the ass though when you'd want to move the machine around. Didn't work over here for too long though before it went overseas. I have a lot of picture of that Demag from my buddy who used to run it when it was here.

@judderman37 We still have Demags in Wales. The last H185 is being cut up for scrap, but the 185s'. I know of 4 still working. Amazing machines.

@tld5500 That was probably the 485 then. It was electric powered.

I have another question for you if you don't mind. How many Backhoe H285's did you sell around the eastern part of the states? Reason I ask is a company in Ohio is still operating a white H285 backhoe, bought used in the early 90s. I believe its a late 80s model machine. Any idea of where it came from?

Oh yeah there's no question about it, the Demag's were very reliable machines, but they're already starting to get outdated by today’s technologies. Besides that fact, when a mining company invests a few million dollars in a machine like this they'll make sure they get good use out of it!
