It's not a trope that Asians eat dog...it's a trope that Koreans eat dog...because they do... It's far less common today than it was 30 years ago, for instance, but you can still get dog meat at some restaurants and markets in even South Korea. It's a cultural culinary practice. I think it's almost more racist to pretend that acknowledging it is taboo for some reason... It's culturally insensitive to act like it's an evil thing, since it's fundamentally no different from eating pigs or cows. But it's not racist to assume that Kim Jong Un has, at some point in his life, probably eaten dog meat. If he hasn't, then that would probably be because he's the rich dictator and would only eat high quality expensive foods.

How is it racist to say something that is true about another culture? There is absolutely nothing wrong with that joke. Koreans eat dogs. We don't. It's a cultural difference that under the circumstance is very relevant. The joke construction was a little weak, but the substance of the joke was generally funny and relevant.

I hate to have to defend a clown, but they do breed dogs for consumption in Korea and parts of China. I think they may stopped the practice fairly recently in South Korea, but I don’t remember reading about it stopping in North Korea.

But your issue, of course, as always, is not that the joke is about Noem, or Jong Un, or Korea. If it is because of these comments of yours, it means that they have lost a lot of their audience and as a consequence they are now in financial problems and the competition like Midas Touchhas won them over.

People need to choose whether eating dogs is a "racist joke" against east asian countries, OR "an acceptable cultural difference". It can't be both. If its the latter it is true, so you're allowed to say it. If it is the former then it is untrue, and by suggesting it disparages a country to suggest they eat dogs you're agreeing its an unacceptable practice.

The North Korean government considers dog meat soup to be a "national dish". They host dog meat cooking contests, which are headline news in North Korea. Kim personally approved the design of the Dog Meat Delicacy House in Pyongyang on 8/16/2021. Kim sought to "improve the people's diets" by "attentively guiding" blueprints and interior designs for the Kyongsong Dog Meat Restaurant in Chongjin, North Korea (started in 2020). It is not a stretch to assume that Kim eats dog.

I ate dog twice in China at two different Korean restaurants in two different cities. People do eat dog but its extremely rare and most people are against it!! 8% of people have even tried it! Its the stereotyping thats the issue

Apparently you don't know what ratioed means. This video has more likes than comments. I always thought it was a dumb metric anyways. You can only like a video once, you can make as many comments as you want. I hardly ever like videos, but I comment on them. I've made at least half a dozen comments on this video. That doesn't mean I dislike the video. Comments can be positive. If a video gets a bunch of positive comments, is that a bad thing because it's "ratioed"?

Ehhhhh.... I'll allow the joke, even if Jared worded it so awkwardly. It could have sounded better as she shot Cricket maybe to bring take out for her visit with Kim Jong Un.... or something to that end. More subtle. Do people eat dogs in Korea? Yes. My cousin married a Korean girl, he went to meet her family and was playing with puppies in the yard. He told me she said "Don't get too attached to those, they aren't pets here."😮

In South Korea, a minority of people (around 3.9% of the population, based on a 2018 survey) regularly consume dog meat, predominantly as Bosintang ( lit. 'body protecting soup'), which is thought to have medicinal properties. Consuming dog meat is also a minority practice in China.

That is racist. They eat cats! Just kidding... That's also racist. But in all honesty, when I was younger, I remember in the news that they shut down a local Mandarin restaurant because they found frozen cat meat. 🤢 Also, youtube asian food markets where they sell live animals. You'll most likely find videos that have dogs and cats being sold for consumption. That being said, I don't believe all asians would eat dog or cat. But most would eat some funky stuff that I wouldn't. 😅

South Korea are gradually phasing out dog-meat, but my understanding is it's like whale or dolphin in Japan, in that there's a handful of older people that like it, but most younger people moved away from it years ago.

how is it racist? in north korea dogs are a common food and that's OK because thinking that's digusting is what's racist since your subjecting your morals onto people
