The significance of Donald Trump’s massive rally in The Bronx seems to be missed by those on the left and the right. On the right, the rally has spurred fantasies of a quixotic election day where Republicans finally topple the bright blue state of New York with a Donald Trump victory. On the left, the rally has been largely dismissed as an outlier in favor of round table discussions prognosticating Trump’s legal future despite no new information.
While New York is a safe blue state, the reality is Trump’s massive turnout in one of the bluest counties in America matches the trend lines in recent polls. Black and Hispanic voters are disenfranchised by the status quo of rising prices, international turmoil, and unchecked illegal immigration. The concerns of Trump’s Twitter account from four years ago pales in comparison to the harsh reality minority voters are experiencing today.
