"A debate is raging inside the Democratic Party about whether it’s giving its base - especially those under 30, the generation that most strongly supports abortion rights - enough motivation to keep voting for the party, as federal Democrats struggle to meaningfully push back against the overturning of Roe v. Wade.
The fear is that an already deflated Democratic base won’t show up in November, particularly the youngest voters, who smashed participation records in the last two elections and backed President Joe Biden by a 25-point margin in 2020. Some Democrats stress that the Biden administration and Congress need to do more to show their rage - and willingness to take significant action - to mirror the passion seen among young people, three-quarters of whom support abortion being generally legal."

(Infact if you count him running and being polled, and I do. Trump is now 0-5 in presidential popular votes. We also delivered Biden the Senate. Fat lot of good that's done, Biden got beaten by the real president. Manchin said nope sleepy Joe. My donors say pass their handout, and then we'll think about your little legacy later. Hell Biden gutted his own bill until it was 1/6 of what was needed. Then Manchin said just kidding Joey boy, you get nothing and Biden said yes Mr President. We won't be making that mistake twice. As a lifelong lefty progressive socialist person, I am a member of the Democratic Party only because there is really nowhere else for me to go. I can't vote in a closed primary as an independent, or as a socialist. I vote Democrat only because the alternative is worse. I oscillate between anger and frustration at the milquetoast positions of the party's leadership, and exasperated amusement that those positions are characterized by the opposition party as being those of the radical left. I wish!

As a conservative, I can say I agree with Ana on one thing…the performative aspect of leftist politics is not enough. I’m always baffled by politicians doing something like painting logos on streets. That does very little…probably nothing. Does it generate good press? Probably. Does it solve any real world problems? No.

@Jessica Gates young people showed up for Obama in 2008, but they stayed home in the midterms, Republicans got control of Congress and the SAME PEOPLE who failed to vote sat around wondering why they couldn't get what they wanted. Well, if the Dems kept control of Congress Obama would've had a MUCH easier time getting what they wanted and McConnell wouldn't have been able to steal a Supreme Court seat.

This is not just an abortion issue it is a WOMAN'S RIGHTS issue, I am 67 and this issue should not be dictated by religion at all and I am a Christian. They better get off their butts and work on VOTING RIGHTS. These are the two issues that I am concerned about. I would feel much better if we had Progressives in offices instead of these obviously corporate politicians. Out with the old and in with the new. THE SEPARATION OF CHURCH AND STATE.NEEDS TO BE STRENGTHENED.

I am an old voter. I support progressive candidates. I want corporate democrats and DINOs gone. Problem I have with old democrats is that they do not engage in policy. I fought with my elderly girlfriend because she likes democrats for no other reason than they look kind hearted and they don't appear racist. She also likes Elon Musk because she thinks his mom is beautiful and that he is rich because he is super smart. She tells me I would be much happier if I stopped engaging in political debate. To be honest stupidity and apathy is taking over everywhere. People want their emotions to pick correctly like they are in a friggin Disney movie. If she catches me listening to TYT, Majority Report, David Pakman or Political girl podcast she tells me she doesn't want to hear that sh!t and for me to shut it off. It is hard to convince people who live off their gut feeling to do research. She loves Biden because his marriage looks solid and AOC because she is a young woman of color with fire.

We have several different political parties to chose from. Maybe that would be the road to follow for the US? Voter's are looking for change,a person who has spent his adult livelyhood in politics and yet can't get anything done for the people that elected him to office should very well step down and allow someone much younger and is able to keep up with time and meet the needs of the American people, no more elderly old wrinkled up White men it's time to elect a woman to office, AOC would be a great candidate for the office of the presidential office 🇺🇲

we're too overworked and underpaid and price gouged to afford a day off to stand in a long line to vote. I guarantee you all the young voters in the south are much less likely to even bother going out to vote due to the voting restriction laws, especially drive-thru drop off ballots.

Yes, but he left to direct, right when we needed him, He produced he parody Colbert Report, which I fear too many didn't understand the nuance, and hired a foreigner to host an American political show. What could go wrong between now and elections and into January, 2023? I am an older voter and called Congressional offices to say our country cannot wait until elections for this. Too many women may die because of the Supreme Court recent decision.

Respectfully, that's what I've been saying since the summer of 2019. Group politician and Civic leader who I reached out to thought I was crazy because I told them sitting around waiting for elections with your fingers crossed is not going to change anything. This situation is not on young voters it's on their parents for failing to activate and represent their kids and the kids who are not old enough to even vote. Those are the Americans who are going to be the most severely affected by our lack of progress on ANYTHING. Older voters are the ones who need to go out and protest instead of leaving it up to the kids.

I'm one of those older voters you speak of. A boomer age wise, but a die hard progressive in my heart and soul. I'm with the younger generations 100%. In fact. I see you guys as the last hope for US democracy as we know it today. We did not get where we are overnight though. There have been PLENTY of elections where you guys talked a good game, but did not turn out when the time to vote came around. A lot of young folks are saying they won't vote this time and i get that. The dems have a lot of issues that need to be dealt with. However, this time is not the time to sit it out. That is exactly what the right is banking on. The crucial thing about this time is that they know that once they get control of everything, that could be the end of the left ever getting even a sniff of power at the national level for generations to come, if ever. They've just about completed the job of minority rule in many red states. THIS election could bring permanent minority rule at the national level. They are already calling for bad things to happen to people who don't think like they think or believe what they believe. Are we really that far from the dark place of rightwing thugs kicking in the doors of TYT to shut it down? If we don't exercise our right to vote before it's too late, that is in our future. Yes, the dems have issues. Everything from gerontocracy to corporate greed and bribery. We need to deal with all of that. But for now, I think it's more important to keep these rightwing maniacs from taking over the country. This election could be the watershed event that brings them to power once and for all. Please get your friends and family, especially those in red states to get out and vote this year.

You talk-talk-talk good... doesn't mean implementation is going to follow. Talk about third party's, but what are they going to accomplish in Congress? Do they have the votes? No.

@@persuasivebarrier2419 even when they have the votes they find a way to let you down. When Obama ran in 2008, he promised he would codify Roe v Wade into law. He even had a filibuster-proof super majority. Then when the time came, he said it wasn’t a priority. The democrats could have prevented what just happened with Row v Wade, but they didn’t. They need to learn what happens when they don’t deliver for the people. They will lose voters.

There is one thing I wanna remind everybody. 10 Democrats voted against the $15 minimum wage which I think was the first thing they voted on when they got the majority they were in a panic I don't think we were supposed to win Georgia runoffs and so those 10 exposed their true Republican affiliations so I think we would need 12 seats extra in order to get anything done but let's be real for a moment they do these things purposefully in order to keep the balance at the perfect can't get nothing done level except when it's to give money to a corporation or to a country that buys weapons from one of our corporations that's it that's all I've seen get done 4 i don't know how many years already at this point The Republican motto don't tread on me is sounding pretty good Republican motto of us having a right to overthrow a tyrannical government that is run by people unelected. legalized bribery has ruined this country and something needs to be done examples need to be made people shouldn't be able to show their face in public
