It's definitely not unthinkable, but I think there is a more simple explanation. After the S20 he had 167 left. What do you do from 167 with two darts when the T20 is blocked? You can either try for 19s or try to hit 75 at the bull to to leave 82, which is a preffered finish over 81 which you get when hitting four 19s. In other words, it might just have been his standard route in this situation...

He's admitted, the hunger for performing as he has in the past has diminished. And maybe some family stuff, just became a father for the 2nd time. Other things on his mind now and since he's financially independent, i don't blame him. But like this, he'll lose that #1 spot in no time.

Nothing premature about anyone who talks about his form, his darts or whatever. Facts speak for themselves. He is not as dominant as he was, and is eminently beatable. His averages are not as consistent as they were, this too makes him more beatable. Add those to the fear factor that seems to have disappeared from most players when they play him, and you have the player you have now. Makes for much more enjoyable darts anyway.

No private problems. He's got a kid, he changed his darts and most importantly he admitted to not practicing a whole lot during the break.

The others have caught him up in terms of consistency on the averages. He's still the best on his day but that gulf is no longer and he has to be at his best to win.

Er ist einer der besten Verlierer auf der Tour... Er wirkt immer fair zu seinen Gegner. Kann solche Aussagen nicht verstehen. Und Peter Wright ist ja immer ach so toll und fair. (Ist er auch meistens, aber manchmal eben nicht und MvG eigentlich immer.) Und ich bin KEIN MvG Fan, sondern meine Lieblingsspieler sind Rob Cross und Clemens. Aber sonst hast du Recht. ✌

@@sixtrumpetwarnings Not making excuses at all, he is playing bad. But with every player that looses their form there is a reason. A player who dominated the field for years does not suddenly forget how to play darts. There has to be a cause, and I don't think it's his new darts. I think MVG in top form can play well with literally any random set of darts. And the lack of crowds is influencing players and teams, you see it everywhere. Liverpool was dominant the entire season, no crowds and they are playing bad, they clearly need the fans behind them.

Petersen is one of best players on the Pro Tour this year. Two Semis and a Final in the last five events, he has made huge leaps in class recently.
