fuck, it's just like how Half-Life ruined the FPS genre because everyone else jumped on the perceived bandwagon of making a painfully linear game without any consideration as to why Half-Life's linearity tied in to the story.

And also Half-Life didn't punish you for experimenting with gameplay stuff as opposed to CoD and Battlefield which will send you to the last checkpoint for moving too far to the left and was actually, imagine this, fun.
