An explanation on "where was this before?" It's not a spoiler as I'm just explaining Tengens breath style but the way how Tengens Breath Style works is he is pretty much a double edge sword. The longer he stays in a fight the stronger he gets. He turns your fighting style into a song by listening to the sound of your moves which allows him to predict everything and give himself a boost and dance with his opponent which is why he is now on the offensive in this episode. His downside is that it takes a while to write the song so it requires him not to take a lot of damage for the boost to be even better but you can already see how well he did extremely damaged, poisoned, and one handed when his song was complete. It was already stated he would of won against Upper 6 if Musical Score was in play 100% and he didnt lose a hand and damaged. That's the downside of Musical Score though. If the opponent can blitz him to death or weaken him then he is done. Another weakness is if the person has an unorthodox fighting style which Upper 6 had so it took Longer for Musical Score to kick in. He would of done better against someone as Akaza as Martial Arts is not unorthodox and he could of created a Song quickly. But at the same time I think they would dance with each other for a longgggg time due to Akaza Ability I won't spoil. People call Tengen weak compared to the other Hashira but he's actually both weak and strong. Weak in the beginning but strong once a Song is made and thats his double edge sword.

Spoiler That mark that came on tanjiros head when he tried to cut gyutaro is called the demon slayer mark it allows the user of the mark to increase their capabilities and allow them to fight on par with demons normally above their level. For example muichiro the mist pillar was able to defeat uppermoon 4 easily alone with one move when he got the mark but before he got it uppermoon 4 was playing with him that should give you an idea of how much of an increase in power the mark gives. It however has drawbacks to it like the fact that the users lifespan decreases to about 40 years old or less when you get the mark
