At the National Museum of Computing I found a wooden device that demonstrates counting in binary. It was a bit tricky to use, this is the third attempt I recorded! I only count up to 16.

It Area = 1 x 8. Area = width x height. If it Area = 32 x 32 or even bigger value in width and height. Then it become PHD designing tool. Lots of picture figure work. Just run it with either binary bit left shift or right shift counter. Area = 1080 x 2000

how about a trinary counter, or a quadnary counter, or a pentary counter, octary counter....etc......
