very interesting concept, especially for those developping countries often hit by disasters.but, i see in Philippines, prices per m² is 20 000PHPwhile hollowblocks is about 30 000 and normal concrete way 25000th waffle method boast to save 50% materials, cement, etcit is also extremly fast process cos made in factory when hollow blocks takes weeks or months.so...how could the prices still be so high? need less workers, less time maybe 10times faster?, and 50% less materials.?there is also a waffle box, the whole house is delivered with a truck and crane, made whole and not pannels.

I'm gonna have one house constructed this way in the future... I wish!

Jeez, there's a bunch of shitty comments, considering this is just a sample structure, built to show you how the panels are formed and put together. There are a few other "waffle panel" building systems out there, not just waffle Crete. I think the waffle design is highly reinforced, with the mesh, wirebars, and the waffle beams, not only that but the panels use less concrete by waffle design anyway, reducing costs. I think the house is ugly, the caulk could've been mortar. But it's a 4 wall design, and for the most part, you could make your own waffle molds, and make the panels yourself. You could also build a more elaborate design, which has a better system for rainwater catchment, not just drainage. I think the fundamentals of diy affordable housing are there. The whole process could be replicated diy, with your own molds and panels. The crane rental for a day isn't really that expensive either. I'd like to see a septic mold, incorporated into this, and create a truly livable structure, from just the panels. But I like concrete building.

Cool video. The only concern I see is they put some sort of caulking when they installed roof. However, when they put walls on the floor there's no foam or caulk within the joint there. This would be an issue for seeping water from raan, and not to mention bugs infestations?Just wondering how do they remedy these aforementioned issues?

Where are the chase ways for electrical or plumbing. Hammer drilling through concrete to run that stuff after the job not so fun....especially when hitting rebar, then you have a cripple stud. This is just an above ground culvert ... that they didn't use mastic tape to seal the joints. I mean this is much better than the shazzaks they have out there in the Barrio, but could they really afford these units either? I mean trucking, diesel, concrete, heavy crane all cost a lot of money. I think Earth Bag construction is a lower tech, and more affordable solution.

I have to agree. This would be good for large scale mass housing projects in the thousands. But at a human scale, not so much. I like the clean construction though.

How about the toilet? You need to dig for the septic tank right?

Concrete floors should be illegal. People's joints, especially the elderly, are beat to death on concrete.

I think it's intentional if you'll look at the design at 1:58 and I thought about that too. I'd rather have all those columns facing outwards especially when building in hot regions to provide more surface area for heat dissipation; same with Eastgate Centre in Harare, Zimbabwe as natural air-conditioning system

This only ideal in an open or wide spaces, you need a crane to build a house using this technology, therefore you can't build it in a really tight urban areas.
