About five months ago, my mom was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s disease. I have known about Max’s story about his mom since I’ve been following him for years. It seems weird to say that I’m looking forward to seeing the movie, but it will give me some insight that I need and help me understand that my brother and I are truly not alone.

I’m a personal carer in residential aged care and work in the dementia wing a fair bit. Witnessing the effects of this debilitating disease firsthand made me reassess my lifestyle and was the major reason I took up strength training and began eating more nutritious, whole foods.

I am a huge max lugavere fan I listen to his pod, get his newsletter and have read his book. Being someone who deals with dementia daily in my career being a dietitian in a long term care facility and having two grandfathers who had there lives cut short due to the disease this pod really has me captivated and I will be buying little empty boxes at the very least to support max. Big fan of all the work mind pump does keep it up!!!!

So with all my heart thank you for sharing your knowledge. Hugs from the D.R.

This is such an important topic. Especially with the numbers y’all stated in the beginning. The huge percentage of obese, sick, overfed, undernourished, sedentary, people is alarming! I often bring up the fact that when my kids were little (in the late 80’s) there were 12-15 immunizations on the schedule. Now there’s 72 or 73!!!! Seriously! Our kids have more learning disabilities, allergies, autoimmune diseases and a plethora of other ailments than ever before. Imagine what their prognosis for dementia/alzheimers is going to be!

I’m so concerned about being a burden to my family. I’m only in my early 30s, but everyone on my maternal grandmother’s side has been diagnosed with dementia or died of Alzheimer’s. On top of that I had a benign brain tumor removed in my early twenties and been having seizures occasionally for the past decade. With each seizure it’s causing slight memory loss and I am noticing the effects of this already. It’s almost a certainty that I will have some form of cognitive deterioration as I age. I’ve been weight lifting for the past couple of years, and I’m hopeful that it can help stave off some of the effects, but I hope to not be a burden to my two daughters in my old age.

This topic hits close to home and sadly I don't think I could make it through the movie. My mother, aunt, grandfather and his siblings suffered terribly from dementia. I do everything I can to prevent it. The puzzling thing to me is that my mother was the cleanest eater and still ended up with it. She did have bouts of depression so that may have played a part in her case.

50:08 that also has first and foremost to do with what you eat....or actually with what you don't eat... However you turn it, in the end you'll need to accept: nutrition first.
@Szilvia_SzilviaАй бұрын
52:21 that's a paradox. Someone having depression is not healthy. And just because you can't connect it, because it is not obviously visible, it doesn't mean they are physiologically in good shape. It's so much more nuanced than that.

I wonder if I should take creatine? Can you take creatine even if you don't work out hard? Will you retain fluids? Since my mom & aunt died from Alzheimer's I've been thinking I should be taking creatine for a while now. I've been hearing you guys & so many other people talk about it & now that Max mentioned it for people to use it for brain health I am really wanting to try it as long as those questions are OK. Thank you so much. This show was great even though it was so sad people need to know this information.
@Szilvia_SzilviaАй бұрын
Yes, you can. Yes, it holds water, depending on dose. But before adding anything maybe it's a good idea to check if what you consume right now is healthy. Alzheimer's is basically glucose metabolism going wrong in your brain. So the biggest needle you can move is to transition to a very low or even no carb nutrition.
@heathergasol569Ай бұрын
@@Szilvia_Szilvia Thank you Sal. I have a high protein, low carb diet. I lost 85 pounds by doing it the good old fashioned way, diet and exercise in 2000. I’ve managed to keep it off even while not exercising because I was taking full time care of my dear, sweet mom who had Alzheimer’s Disease for the last 3 years. She just passed 5 months ago. I started hormone replacement therapy 8 months ago and I must say I’ve gained 11 pounds for the first time since I lost all the weight in 2000. I don’t like it. I’ve changed nothing so it has to be the estrogen plus it’s all in the middle. If I didn’t need the estrogen so bad I would stop it. I’m still not overweight. This brings me up to the weight I should be for my height.I value your opinion Sal & appreciate any help you could give me with this. Thank you so much.🙏🙌🙌🙌💜

I got maps15, busy mom in her late 40s. I tried muscle mommy and I enjoy it, but it takes too long -My goal is to lose fat by getting stronger and build muscle so that I can be done with my weight yo yo. Is maps 15 the best for me given my goals? Thanks for all you do, mind pump guys!
@Szilvia_SzilviaАй бұрын
Prioritize sleep quality, clean up your nutrition, follow MAPS15 by going heavy with good form. Note: high carb low fat won't work. Your hormonesystem needs fat. Slash carbs as low as you can, increase healthy fats.
@kristinatuttle3994Ай бұрын
Thank you! I am type 1 diabetic as well so I’ve been good with my diet. I was incorporating a lot of fasting- intermittent and once a week 24 hr fasts prior to following maps. I only eat whole foods- grass fed, source eggs from farmers, etc. I’ve increased my protein but I feel like I’m just gaining- dont want to just keep going then find myself farther from my goal. Working on my sleep…
@Szilvia_SzilviaАй бұрын
@@kristinatuttle3994 it's difficult without a full history... If you eat enough meat, extra creatine will just make you hold water & be even rounder/fuller....I wouldn't go that route. There's also such a thing as too high protein too low fat, so check your ratio. Although gluconeogenesis is demand driven most of the time, if you're continuously bombarding your metabolism with too lean and too much protein, it will make you gain fat tissue. But that's just one possible guess. Depending on how you handle your type 1 Diabetes, it also could be that the type & dose of insulin is incorrect for your current nutrition. Look into that too.

49:33 yes, but however you don't want it to be true, it still is: what you put into your mouth has such a huge effect on your metabolic health compared to exercise, appropriate amount & intensity of exercise is good and healthy, but it doesn't even come close in effect to metabolic health to nutrition. So clean up diet 1st.

Lugavere has absolutely no qualifications to be discussing nutrition as an 'expert'. He should be selling sneakers in a mall somewhere wearing a referee jersey. I sympathize with his Mom's condition and his loss, but he actually believes vegetable oils and lack of red meat contributed to her condition.
