the writing was very good for the time and these situations are so much the same nowadays (affairs & overdoses) Anita Dobson did a great job xxx

Same here. I was 6 when i first saw it broadcast and loved it. I think i'd only been watching the show for a few months at the time.

In that marriage den was the hard man and angie was the drinking to a Bolivian and sharon was there princess but one thing they had in common was they were both liars den had an affair with someone else and angie lied about dying but they both loved sharon like she was one of there own if den and angie didn't leave I don't think she would have looked twice and the Mitchell brothers I'm glad den came back 13 years later but then died again I loved the actors Leslie Grantham and Anita Dobson and Letitia Dean

It's funny that a few years later Den and Angie's daughter Sharon was in a similar situation with her husband Grant. Running the same pub and a violent marriage but in ways Sharon was stronger in her marriage to Grant than Angie was with Den

I see these old episodes of eastenders like it captured real life and survival money etc in the 80s.i went through similar problems housing parents etc in 80s. and people left my town I'm born thinking the grass is greener later to realise it's not.like eastenders back then was a metaphor of my life etc.but I became an eastender surviver.

Floyd1504 Oh, come off it. He made her life a living hell. Even when she tried to stop drinking, he didn't support her, just said things like: "I preferred you when you drank." Yes, she was an alcoholic, but it had EVERYTHING to do with him.

If this happened in today's NHS they would be waiting 4 hours for an ambulance and then another 8 hours stuck in a+e waiting for a bed in a ward to become available.
