I have a 35mm f2 and. 16mm 2.8 and 18-55mm kit lens. I find the 16mm lacking in terms of low light so I would replace it with the 1.4, however I am looking at a 23mm which would you recommend the f2 or the 1.4 ?
@rajusenthilkumar2137
@rajusenthilkumar2137 3 жыл бұрын
@@Watchthekettle late reply, but depends what you need it for, if you don't mind the size then the 1.4 is definitely worth going for due to the extra bokeh and low light performance. Personally, I own the 23mm f/2 and it is my primary lens, I use it for all my photography, family portraits, street photography, casual shoots with friends, and I absolutely love it, the size makes it very unobtrusive and the easy focusing capabilities makes it not only a dream to use for myself with quick action shots with moving subjects, but also leaves me at ease when handing my camera to those unfamiliar with adjusting manual focus as with the autofocus on, they simply just need to tap the screen to focus on the subject. If you have the money to spend and want to get the most bokeh and low light performance, the 23mm f/1.4 is the way to go but if you want just an additional lens to have fun with on the cheap, the 23mm f/2 is perfect!

Happy Fuji-versary!!!! 4 years! I am a few months away from my 4years and also still loving the system. I have the 16f1.4, 35f2 and 50-140 f 2.8 for all the same reasons as you have stated. All phenomenal. I had 56 and 90 at one point and loved them too but ended up replacing them with 50f2 and 80mm macro. Found the smaller size of 50 and wr served me better and it is no slouch. 80mm ..I just love the details and the ability to use the 1.4x TC makes it more versatile than the 90 alone, granted not the same level of bokeh. I also have the 27f2.8 cuz...love pancakes, love the near pocket-ability and also...that 40mm FF equivalent is just kinda special. I also have the 10-24f4 and that guy I waffle about keep or sell...a lot. It is nice to have it, but not often used. All these paired with x-t3 keep me excited about shooting and that is the biggest reason I love Fuji. Just the joy it gives me. Keep up the great Andrew work and be safe.

Thanks for this, Andrew. I especially appreciated your comments on how well suited the 16mm is to capturing family. I also have the 56mm, and while there’s definitely some magic in it, I’ve taken my favourite pictures of my daughter with the 16mm, I’m sure. You’re so right that the way this wide angle exaggerates features just works so well with kids. I bought it after watching one of her earlier reviews of the lens, and we’ve since managed to get a few memorable pictures of each other that we’ll have for a long time, so thank you again for sharing your thoughts.

Probably the best thing I’ve noticed about shooting Fuji is that no matter what kind of shooting you’re interested in doing, it seems like Fuji makes a spectacular zoom or prime to cover those bases. You kit examples at the end really drive this home…the Fuji system is extremely versatile and the lenses are really special.

Ive binged quite a few videos of yours because Ive been considering switching to fuji from my Sony a6300. While the Sony has great specs, I dont feel a connection to it. It feels sterile and clinical like an Iphone and there just something about the colors that leaves me dissatisfied even when shooting RAW. For comparison, my very old and sizable canon 6d brings me more joy when using it and with its dated sensor's color rendition. As a matter of fact, I think Sony is the Apple of the camera world atm. I've capture a few 'keepers' with the Sony but I cant explain it. Me and the Sony aren't in love, it is definitely a great and capable camera though. I haven't decided what fuji I want yet, only that Ill be making the move soon. I appreciate your no BS conversation like you're telling your friends about your fuji collection and the soul of the company itself rather than being overly-hyped to the point of coming off as fake and ramming promos down my throat. Thank you you for the time spent explaining the small nuances of each camera and all the other information. I hope your channel gets as big as the popular Sony and Canon channels. I can tell you enjoy the process of actually taking photos with tactile gear even if its a more involved process. Basically like driving a manual car because you feel something. You got a sub from me. My Instagram is @bhurnal if you'd like to see some of my work. The better(older) stuff is from the Canon.

I enjoy landscape, travel, and street photography. My Canon was feeling too heavy to carry everywhere, so when I bought my Fuji, I made it a point to stay small and light. I have the 14mm, 23mm f2, 35mm f1.4, 50mm f2, and the XC 50-230mm. It’s small and light enough to carry the whole kit everywhere, including 58mm filters.

Am now officially super jealous! thanks for sharing - it was great to see your kit but more importantly get your insight into why you have them. I've only got the 10-24, 16 f1.4 and 55-200 Fujinon lenses for my X-T3. But I also use an adapted micro Nikkor 105mm f2.8D and an old Canon FD 50mm f1.8. I'm really considering swapping out the Nikkor for the Fuji 80mm macro lens solely due to this lockdown. I was more than happy with the Nikkor as a casual macro shooter, but as needs see me get more into it I think an upgrade is on the cards. Be interesting to hear your long-term thoughts on the 80mm. For my GFX50R I use the 23 and 32-64. I might swapout the zoom for the new 50mm pancake but that's not for the right now.

Great collection. Thank you for video. After 2 years, that I started to use my XT3, I finaly concluded, that the most important thing is the weight of lens. Now I own 8 fujinon lenses so far. There are: 10-24; 16/1.4; 16-55; 18-55(kit); 35/2.0; 50/2.0; 56/1.2; 50-140 (+1.4 extender). My favorite lenses are: 10-24 (very useful for archtecture and interior) 16/1.4 (for landscapes, close portraits and stillife); 35/2.0 (for everyday use, portraits, street and scenes of life); 50/2.0 (pretty good portrait lens, razor sharp, fast and light, I like to take it with 35/2.0 together); and of course I like my 56/1.2 (king of portrairs). I almoust do not use 16-55 and 50-140 couse they are too heavy. If I need a zoom lens for travel, than 18-55 kit lens is a better choice because of its lightness (IMHO). In the future I want to try 23/1.4; 27/2.8; and 90/2.0. For macro I want to buy Laowa 65mm with X2 magnification. I also want to purchase fringer adapter to use my old canon ef lenses on my XT3. Anyway: I prefer primes over zooms and light lenses over heavy monsters. :)) P.S. sorry for my bad english.

I'm in the same situation and the question is between taking advantage of the reduced price of the 16-80 kit (500 $) or investing it directly in a prime (16 1.4) or the 10-24 zoom for the type of family and landscape photography that I make. What do you think? Thanks for your wonderful work, greetings from Jerez, Spain.

Thank you Andrew! Your channel has been my source of review and recommendation since my Fuji journey began. My journey , in order, started with the X-T3 w/18-55 kit lens one year ago (sold my Nikon D810) then I got the 16/1.4...then the 80mm macro (but sold it)...I got the 16mm ext. tube...then I bought the 55-200. I have 2 third party macro lens, the Rokinon 100mm/2.8 macro and the Zhongyi 4-4.5X extreme macro...also got the 11mm extension tube. In between the buys, I rented the 56/1.2 and the 50-140 (just to experience them). I am now considering the 35/f2 and 90. I do not make money from my photography anymore, It's just a passion and have a personal discipline of shooting everyday in my retirement.

@@allencowley2112 I came to realize that for the amount of money I spent on this lens ($1300), I could get more macro versatility with extension tubes and reverse rings for a fraction of the price than a dedicated macro lens.... As always, very good video, Andrew. I use my Fuji lineup as a light and small alternative to my Nikon full-frame lineup, which I still keep because of the great ergonomics and image quality (D850, z6). Therefore I mainly use the light lenses, like 35 f2.0, 23 f2.0 and 50 f2.0. I sold my 16 1.4 a few months ago, because I rarely used it, although I always get sentimental when you talk about it. I'm thinking of trading my x-t2 for either an x-pro3 (what a beauty) or an x-t4, but I'm still very undecided. The x-t4 should bring real added value through image stabilization, but the x-pro 3 is simply... wwwwrrrrr. Keep up the good work and stay safe! Greetings from Germany.

Love that line-up of lenses! My current line-up are quite similar to yours, only that I prefer Zeiss Touit 32mm f/1.8 Planar over XF 35mm f/1.4 R, based on my preference of AF speed and coming from a former user of Sony FE Zeiss lens (FE Carl Zeiss 35mm f/2.8 ZA Sonnar), but both are stellar lenses and produced beautiful images with different characteristic. My current line-up: 1. XF 50-140mm f/2.8 R LM OIS WR 2. XF 90mm f/2 R LM WR 3. XF 56mm f/1.2 R - Agree with yours, I am tempted to see how XF 50mm f/1 R WR will perform and would love to shift over that new lens and sell my XF 56mm f/1.2 R. However, XF 56mm f/1.2 R is still a very decent lens. 4. Zeiss Touit 32mm f/1.8 Planar for X-mount 5. XF 16mm f/1.4 R WR - One of the best wide prime lens ever produced. Period. 6. Zeiss Touit 12mm f/2.8 Distagon for X-mount - I love that you brought up this lens to the viewer's attention. It's such an underrated lens. It's just because when it was produced to the market the price tag was so hefty people then choose XF 14mm f/2.8 or Samyang 12mm f/2 NCS CS as they're a lot cheaper. But since Zeiss doesn't sell this Touit 12mm f/2.8 anymore, we can get the lens in such a bargained price at the used and secondhand market.

My kit: samyang 12mm, Xf16, xf35f1.4, xf56, xf90, xf18-55, xf16-55; adapted: Auto-rikenon 55f1.4, nikkor 105f2.5 ais, nikkor af 180 2.8 ed The lenses why I will always own a fujifilm camera are Xf16, xf90... Both are magical. Love your content and your vibe. Really looking forward to every new video.

I have gravitated to full frame for wildlife and landscape, so now Fuji is my travel and documentary system. Zooms went out the door yesterday to KEH. My major prime kit is 23mm f/2, 16mm f/2, and the low-profile pancake 27mm f/2. The 27mm pancake needs some love as an everyday, go-everywhere ultracompact lens. It only lacks close focus. Cheers.

Man, I couldn't agree more with you. That 16mm is the reason I came back twice to the Fuji system. I have used Sony mirrorless and Nikon DSLRs and mirrorless for professional and personal work and even though those systems have their own advantages I never felt quite at home as much as I did every time I shoot with my xf 16mm. Also that 90mm made me put my 56mm in the bag for a long time(I know I know is not as practical as the 56mm but oh boy is it sharp and fast for focusing) thanks for the video!

Andrew, I really enjoy and appreciate all the in depth you and Denae have put out over the years. It's helped keep me inspired. The sample shots here are absolutely beautiful! Dying to pick up the 16mm f1.4 and the 56mm f1.2 but I feel like I can't justify those purchases right now since I'm a full time student and not doing that many paid photo gigs although I'm always trying to add more work to my portfolio. When I do go out and shoot, it's mostly jazz concert and portrait photography (so lots of low light). I use the 35 f1.4 for most everything and then I have the 23mm f2 for slightly wider situations (and dabbling in street and landscape) and the 90mm f2 for getting up close. I'll very seldom take out the 18-55 kit lens for the 18mm f2.8 part of it and the helios 44-2 (which is like an 80mm full frame although it flares constantly and isn't very sharp which isn't always an issue but I try to avoid that). Which lens should I try to acquire next or rather should I wait patiently till more work comes in? I've also thought of trading some of my lenses for one of the two earlier mentioned but each of these serves a purpose (except maybe the kit lens) and I'm scared of "handicapping" myself

First off, thank you for your kind words! As far as fear of "handicapping" yourself, don't be afraid of that. Embrace the creative constraints. Some of my greatest growth is when I just stuck to one prime for weeks at a time.

I want them all, for now I only own the "kit" 18-55mm, 50mm 2.0 and loving it and the fabulous (some may not think the same) 50-230mm, now this lens has been sticking to my XT-3 much longer than I expected, it's been doing great in studio with speed lights and outdoors as well, now I haven't tried the other long "better quality zooms" but for the time being this is holding up very well, very excited about upcoming 50mm 1.0.

Here's my kit: - 16-80mm f4 for general use and for when I travel far away. Love it. Of course at f4 when light is low you're gonna be in trouble. I've tried the 18-135 but I was not very impressed, and I don't miss the extra lenght. - 16mm 1.4 was my first ever fuji lens. Insane!! I used to always shot with it before I got the 16-80mm, (which now made me a little bit lazy) but there's one big problem with the 16 though: it has terrible coma! I wish I could use it for astrophotography, but it forces me to crop a lot. (I'm considering the samyang 12mm f2 for that). - 50-140mm f2.8 which I bought for landscape and general telephoto stuff, and is of course the only lens I use when I do portraiture. It IS sharp. Also I'd use it for deep astrophotography some day. - 100-400mm f4.5-5.6 which I bought at a very affordable price only for those rare situations where I need very long reach. It is a very good lens, but I honestly didn't use it very much. I'd also try this lens for deep astrophotography. - also, I own the 2x teleconverter which is compact and can be handy sometimes. It does take away some sharpeness however, problably the 1.4x is the better choice. Used to have the 35mm f2 but I sold it in favor of the 16-80. I think I regret that decision a bit now, I'm missing the 50mm equivalent even though I'd rarely use it during portraits. I'm looking for alternatives, maybe the new XC 35 or the crazy mitakon f0.95... Also the 56mm is always in my head, I'd really like to try it out. p.s. the 50mm f1 is always in my head too ahah

You can never be too rich, too thin, or have too many lenses ;) I always enjoy finding out how folks make their equipment decisions, and lens choices are soooooo personal, that it can give a glimpse of the personality behind the decision. I think telling someone what lens(es) to have/use is like telling someone how they should cut their hair. Lol. Thanks for sharing your thoughts and use cases.

You’ve ended up with quite a collection but they all make sense to me given the variety of needs you have. I haven’t been through nearly as many lenses but have leveraged your videos to end up with a 16mm f1.4, 23mm f2, 50mm f2, 18-55, and 55-200. The only thing I’ve wondered about is swapping the 23 f2 for the f1.4 but do a lot of travel and street so not keen on the extra weight and lack of WR.

Thank you for a great video! I almost bring 16mmF1.4, 35mmF1.4 and 90mmF2 with X-PRO3 for travel and street photography. I think the 16mmF1.4 is one of the most versatile lenses in FUJIFILM because we can shoot everything we see on tourist spots and show subjects really dynamically!

As a primarily stills shooter, my fuji kit consists of the X-T3 with 56 1.2 and 16 1.4 as well as the X100V (was the X100F before). For weddings and events I pretty much just run with the 56 and the X100V only switching to the 16 when the situation requires. Easy to switch between the two and covers well. I also have vintage glass that I use in my film kit that I adapt for certain scenarios like a Canon FD Macro and a Vivitar 135 2.8.

Enjoying following your journey 🙂 I'm building my own kit. Switched some months ago, and - besides some manual focus and vintage lenses - only have the 18-55mm, 23mm f2, and the 35mm f/1.4. I need and miss a telephoto lens. I'm planning to get the 50mm f2, 90mm f2, and 55-200mm. I'm mostly doing street and documentary stuff, not professionally, but would like to also do portraits and events professionally. If I could do documentary photography professionally, then that would be it. Now I'm considering getting the 16-55mm instead of the two f2 primes though. It's a bit more expensive, and obviously f2.8 instead of f2, but covers more range. On the other side, it's big. If only I had enough money all the lenses 🙂

Like you Andrew, I have several kits chosen with the task at hand. Here they are: Field & Stream (landscape): XT-3 + 16mm/1.4 and 50-200mm Event: XT-3 and a 2nd body, either X-T2 or X-Pro2 + 16mm/1.4 and 50-200mm or 50mm/2.0 Travel & Street (minimalist): X100V Travel & Street(expanded)l X-Pro2 + 16mm/2.8, 23mm/2.0 and 50mm/2.0 Special Circumstance (when in the company of non-photographers): Only the x100V and nothing more. Note: the Special Circumstances approach comes from my experiences. Non-photographers have no patience at all with photography, not even for a moment. Break this approach at your own risk: your friends will get irritated, and you will be frustrated and disappointed. Lesson learned, it's about the trip or event, not my images! Thanks Andrew, I always enjoy your videos. BTW, you have a lovely family. Cheers!

Outstanding video. I am currently a Sony A7R m3 user, but as I age and travel more I'm wanting to downsize a little with Fuji XT4 and 3 to 4 lenses. My first love is landscape and street photography but with grandkids now have moved more into portrait. I also love the 24mm f1.4 (full frame eq) as a walk around option during travel but find the 24-105 f4 is a really good option too. I agree that OIS may not be necessary with the XT4, but I believe the camera processor uses the lens AND body to stabilize. I know Sony does this. So you get maximum stabilization with an OIS and in-body with the XT4. Lastly, I was surprised on your street photography kit you did not use a 23 (35mm FF eq) F1.4 or F2. I find the 35 FF eq works better than 50 FF eq for street photography. 24 FF eq also works well to get more of the surrounding environment too.

@@nopunintended5096 I use the Viltrox EF-FX2. It works pretty good for me. Used it for pro work too. The autofocus hunts a little but I'm okay with it. Probably more to do with my aging XT1 than the speedbooster.
