How is bane a terrible pick though? He is one of the strongest mid heroes and gankers and is currently no. 1 on Hero win rate for Immortal rank.

Topson proved Bane mid viable with attack speed buffs along with being able to attack targets you Nightmare without waking them. He's a universal hero with good starting stats all 23 iirc and gets a good amount of dmg from early stat items.
