Denis Villeneuve on Directing Dune Part II: 'A dream' (Watch)

For many Dune fans, Part II is the adaptation they have been waiting for.
The films represent the project of a lifetime for 56-year-old Canadian director Denis Villeneuve. He first came across the book as a teenager, at a library near his school in Trois-Rivieres, Quebec.
Villeneuve says the novel, a sweeping eco-fiction and parable of the oil economy, has only become more prescient with each passing year.
A decade ago, when Villeneuve first came to Los Angeles to work on his debut English-language film, the Hugh Jackman thriller Prisoners, he recalls that people would always ask him what his dream project would be.
“The only thing that was popping in my mind was Dune.”
Sci-fi is familiar terrain for Villeneuve, but perhaps the most crucial figure in bringing his vision to life was the Australian cinematographer Greig Fraser.

But not genius enough to have someone get the finished and edited 12 hou directors/assembly cut from the vault and put it in a theatre near me. I would pay 200 to see that but DENIS doesnt want anyome to see that.

@@Khannea Nothing wrong with the only-theatrical-cut stance. I think it is very understandable to want there to just be one definitive cut of your film

Too bad DENIS made a 12 hour Assembly/Directors cut and now he is hiding it in some vault. Are you being intentionally cruel DENIS???

Saw it last night. Incredible. But book readers might want to go in with an open mind. There are not really any huge changes but lots of omissions. And stuff that was apparently cut for time. I hope they convince him to release an extended cut.
