Thank you. Do you think this abdication, that both in a Danish and Scandinavian context are extremely rare will affect Norway and Sweden´s regents? A own willing abdication have not happened here in over 800 years. The tradition to stay on until last breath have been a strong and valued tradition. The Queen have several times last decades, naturally, had the question if she ever considered abdication before destined. She have always said that the only thing that she could think of that would make her take such a decision would be if diagnosed with a mental incapacitating diagnose, like Alzheimer. This off course makes some worry that there are health factors not yet disclosed. Anyway, I can imagine rest of Scandinavians are as surprised as we Danes over this announcement?

But as far as i can see the Royal houses of Norway and Sweden has not yet given any formal comments about Queen Margrethes abdication. Personally i think at least King Harald of Norway is so old he should consider to pass the responsibility of being a King over to his son Crownprince Haakon Magnus.

They don't do ostentatious celebration with a coronation like the British monarchy. The crown prince will take the oath in front of the members of Parliament and that's about it, just like the Dutch. There may be a formal dinner with all the important Danish politicians later but there will be no invitations to all the crowned heads or leaders of the world.

I'm not sure I understand what you are writing- Mary will not be known as Margrethe as only the oldest daughter of the Danish King is known as Margrethe it's not a name given to the wife of a Danish King , also Mary will not be head of state like Queen Margrethe is, Frederik will be head of state as he is the oldest son of Queen Margrethe, and Mary will be Kings consort Queen Mary of Denmark-when she married Frederik she had to leave her Australian citizenship behind

The royal family gave up large parts of their own fortune to create the Denmark we have today!!! So I hope that the people of Denmark will support them with the money they need... We only give 10 - 15 Danish Kroner...that corresponds to 1-2 British Pounds, per person a year, to get the royal family to represent us in the world...they work hard and they do a great job who would change that?!!!

There will be no coronation. There will be a declaration. The coronation cermony was abolished in 1848, when absolute Monarchi was abolished.

From 1648 to 1840 we anointed monarchs with holy oil, they would arrive at the ceremony already wearing the crown since they had inherited it (before 1648 Denmark had an elective monarchy). That is the ritual that was abolished when Grundloven was adopted.

Can hardly even be called a coronation as you in UK would understand it. The Danish protocol are described below if you want insight into how and why we do as we do here. Since succession normally only happens when the reigning King or Queen dies this ceremony here are extremely low key. In reality the new Monarch, becomes Monarch the moment the then Monarch passes. Depending on time of day death occurs the Crown Prince/Crown Princess same day, or the day after, will go together with the sitting PM, out on the Balcony of Amalienborg castle and announce the death of the King/Queen in the same way it happened to Margrethe when her father died: "King Frederik the ninth are dead - pause - Long live Queen Margrethe the second" Then the new Monarch holds a short speech that includes an announcement of his/hers motto for the reign. The PM then asks the people that are gathered below the balcony to make a nine fold "long live the Queen" and that are basically it. All designed with the grieving son/daughter in mind while the people have been informed of the new state of the nation officially at the same time. I have no idea how it will happen after a own decided abdication but I guess they will stay close to the script like a Queen Margrethe have abdicated - long live King Frederik the tenth. Would also bee obvious if current Crown princess Mary, coming Queen Mary would be at the balcony from at least after the announcement. This are first time in around 8-900 years that a Danish Monarch have abdicated by own will, so I guess the protocol masters have been dusting some of the older books off to find the correct procedure if such usable one even exists since many protocols were changed when we abolished Monarchy as leading us politically.. A royal reporter somewhere probably have found the protocol correct procedure, if such one exist, so we soon will know. if not before then at least on the 14th of January where the abdication will take place.

There was no bestowal of the regalia, the crown was considered inherited at the time of the former monarch's death, so kings would show up at the anointing ceremony in Frederiksborg Slotskirke already wearing the crown. That's the tradition that was abolished when Grundloven was passed, the last real coronation was Frederik III.
