Thanks for a nice video. Interestingly, I have read/viewed many instructions how to setup eARC connection but no where says on the AVR you have to select TV Audio as the source! This video shows it. Thank you

I just ordered the x6700h. I am upgrading from a 13 years old Onkyo TX-SR805. I am moving up from 1080P to 4K and I'm upgrading everything including speakers. I found Klipsch Dolby Atmos Speakers from Costco for $899 it's 5.0.2 setup, I do plan to add more speakers later. Also the 6700h has 8K input/output so it's future proof for several more years.

Very clear instructions but there's a couple questions I can't seem to find answers to. My TV and avr both have EARC and are connected. Now do I plug my devices (Nvidia shield, ps5, cable box) directly to the tv or to the avr? Can I get lossless audio if everything is going straight into the avr? I have everything going straight into my avr right now and seems to work except I'm unsure if I'm getting the best sound and also I'm noticing slight lip sync issues. Would hooking everything up to my tvs hdmi give me better audio and fix lip sync issues?

Thanks for the tip about tapping the Info question mark ❓ , that’s HUGE for me!!! The front panel display for my x7200wa does not show Audio or Video info. Even if it did, I wouldn’t be able to see it without getting off my chair. Today, not only did I smile when I tapped that ?, I also discovered how to get into Audio settings and make sure Dynamic EQ is OFF when I’m enjoying CDs on the Panny 820. Thank you so much for this video! The Audyssey app does not support my AVR, it may have taken awhile, but at least I now know that important things can be accessed. MAYBE, some day Denin will add more supported AVRs to that Audyssey app! Cheers buddy! Home By The Sea........

Thanks for video. So just checking I have my Denon plugged into my Samsung tv the way you showed. All my other devices like shield tv and Apple TV should be connected to the denon thru the hdmi of receiver right? Sometimes when I click on my shield device it will come up on the shield main screen but then after a few seconds the input changes to my hdmi 1 and plays my cable tv. I then have to use my harmony remote to correct the activity of playing the shield and the remote automatically corrects the input to go back to shield box. Just wondering what may be causing that situation in the beginning?

I saw you are going to be running 3 subwoofers with this. I am currently running 2 SVS subs and 4 Aura transducers off a single amplifier split 3 ways from my single subwoofer out. I have an AVR-X3700H on the way and am wondering how to go about adding the transducers. My plan is to leave them disconnected while I allow Audyssey to eq the subwoofers independently and then split the transducers into one of the subwoofer channels after. Is there a better way to go about this?

I could not for the life of me get Dolby Atmos from my pc to my LG C1, and into my Yamaha A2070. 2 of your videos fixed it for me. The one for the C1, and Xbox (connect on the ARC connector on the RECEIVER and TV), and this one for the passthru toggle on the TV. It is important that your home audio receiver is also setup for auto decoding to figure what kind of audio signal is coming to it from the TV. Also to isolate your PC drivers for causing issues, make sure your computer can already do Dolby Atmos to the receiver prior to rewiring everything to go thru the TV.

Wow, what a grea help. Just bought a Samsung 85" TV and was trying to get this to work. Added most of the services via the Smart TV. TV has 1 eARC, one UHD Game plug and two other HDMI plugs. I put PS4 on the gaming plug, ROKU on a standard HDMI plug, yy 1 year old DENNON AVR on the eARC plug and an LG Blue Ray Player on the last TV plug. So I was out of ports. On the Dennon I put my XBOX 1, Raspberry PI (yes I am that geeky) and the WII-U. Now the question: When I use the XBox for example), does the sound go from the XBOX into the Dennon, then to the TV and then back to the Dennon which sends it to the speakers? Does it really do this round trip? Cant wait to try your tips, though the TV is Samsung rather the TCL so the setup options are different.

Will you be reviewing the new onkyo avrs in the next couple months? I really am looking for some guidance. I have a CX / 3070 gpu / hdmi 2.1 but no avr to use due to the bug. What options do I have ? I game and also prefer to keep resolution at 4k120 then use 4k23/4 for movies with bluray drive. Since cx doesn’t decode dtsma I don’t want to earc. Looking for some guidance from you. I have just purchased a Audioquest Cinnamon 48 HDMI lead, this question may sound unnecessary but which way would you recommend connecting the lead? I ask this because it is a directional lead so normally you would say the arrow towards the amp but as most of the sources are on the TV ( LG G1, Netflix, Prime ) would you point the arrow marker towards the TV? When I press the tv audio to get the tv sounds through the Denon I will get sound but not atmos from the native tv apps. When i send them through a soundbar atmos works on the native tv apps. Also when i send a source like a media player into the denon the atmos source works. Any suggestions? to be clear both earc ports are together and TCL sends the tv sounds but but everything plays without atmos coming from the TV on the denon. I just know the tv can send the signal because it works on a supported soundbar. So what gives?

If this was already covered sorry for the repeat but still confused. Just bought an LG C1 and I have a PS5 and Xfinity cable box. I stream through the native apps on the LG. I am going to be adding a Denon AVR-S960H receiver and plan to run a 7.1.1 set up. I have vaulted ceilings so staying away from Atmos. In order to keep the individual HDMI input picture presets for each component. Should I be connecting the PS5 and cable box directly to the TV then eARC from the tv to the receiver. Or should I be running everything into the receiver then eARC out to the TV? I appreciate any help as I’m new to this. Thanks.

Do I need earc on my TV to get Atmos. Because I have 2016 4k TV that does not. However I am planning on getting a new Av reciever with atmos. Possibly the 9.2 dennon with the 8k????

I have a Denon 2300w avr which has arc i want to connect a panasonic 820p 4kplayer to get atmos should i go straight to receiver with hdmi then hdmi out to tv or should i use the audio out(hdmi) from the 4kplayer to receiver and video out(hdmi) from 4kplayer to tv which has earc. I have an old receiver that only has ARC. Would I be buying myself anything by upgrading to one with eARC if everything coming through it just streamed? My 4K DVD audio is going direct to the receiver so thats not an issue.

All of these videos are great BUT, can you provide a simple solution to show how a Samsung TV Q95 with connect box can use ARC to an older stereo system such as Denon AVC-AX11av which as no ARC input. A HDMI extractor is required such as a Concord but sadly no instructions anywhere to sort this one. All I require is to find a solution to use the Samsung TV remote to control output volume to the stereo. The Q95 has optical out that works but no ability to control the volume that way. Does ARC do that?

Can I connect Sonos ARC using EARC HDMI to this DENON ? Basically am looking to setup a home theater with EPSON projector 3800 4k and utilize SONOS ARC, surround Systems and Subwoofer. To utilize Dolby Atmos DC sonos needs EARC port. If i wired works with this receiver?

Great video! I just got the denon 2700h, and 2 klipsch r820f’s to be booked up to my lg cx, ps5, and rega rp1 turntable. I know turntable goes to phono, I imagine lg cx and ps5 I should use earc? And since I only have the two speakers where should I plug them into the back of the receiver? The front speakers section? I imagine the app is worth buying as well? Sorry for all the newb questions but I’m new to this and very excited and want to make sure I’m setup properly thanks!

No problem, Reza!! Connect the PS5 to the 8K port on the X2700H. Go into the video setup menu and turn on 8K Enhanced Mode. Connect the TV to the AVR using the HDMI ARC ports on both devices. Connect the R820Fs to the front left and right speaker terminals on the X3700H.

I can’t get my Denon 3400h 2017 model to display Dolby atmos when am using my series x and my lg oled cx tv my 4k player to my receiver works fine it says atmos but when I plug my series x to my tv then erac to my receiver I only get Dolby true HD when a movie is played or when watching Netflix it only says Dolby surround what’s going wrong i tired everything u suggested

Hello brother, I just bought denon avr-x2700h and connected it with my sony x900h tv which support eARC. I have done all the settings you tell in the video, but my media from external hdd is not passing through Atmos just playing Dolby Digital + instead. With Netflix it’s its playing Atmos/DD+ lossy. What should I do?

Good vid! Really appreciate it. I got my atmos setup and working with my Samsung 6 series tv. I have a 3600 denon. After I went through the audessy today, the avr no longer says atmos. Now it just says DD+. I’m playing ready player one. I made sure all the earc is setup correctly after audessy. But no avail 😣

@@TechnoDad this is all too weird. I’m playing through Disney+ on my 4k firestick. I try jack Ryan on the stick and it says ATMOS on the avr. But ready player one still says DD+. But yesterday (before the audessy), ready player one said ATMOS 🤷🏽♂️

Hey technodad I have a question. My Philips oled 4K television has only a ARC connection and my Denon 4700 has a ERAC connection. My question is can I get atmos surround on my Denon?

Hi Fernando! That would only be an issue when using the TVs apps. Yes, you will be able to send audio from the TV to the AVR but it would be a compressed form of Atmos as opposed to uncompressed which would come from a 4K disc.

I’m starting to believe that it’s best to just hook up components directly to the TV. The newer 2021 model TVs will have FreeSync Premium Pro for instance so if Xbox or PS5 eventually support this, it would be best to directly hook them up to the TV and pass through the audio via the eARC. I was told to wait for 2021 model AV receivers to see if they have more than 1 HDMI 2.1 input but I’m not holding my breath. Not sure what to do. Some receivers supposedly make the picture better for OLEDs by passing the video through them. I just read someone’s review recently regarding this. Do you think I will have to wait long for AV receivers to offer full HDMI 2.1 support? Thanks.

But the question is ( will the sound be the same if I hook up the xbox to the tv or the AVR?) because of you go to the audio settings in the xbox you will find that dolby atmos requires HDMI ONLY and I’m not sure if the tv will pass through the coded atmos files correctly even though I have LG C2 OLED sooo what’s your thoughts guys?

Hi! They should be fine on the Denon until you get the amp, but I would say, get the amp for sure!

I’am facing with a brand new tv Oled Panasonic HZ1000 with a partial 2.1 hdmi and my receiver is a Denon 1400h with 2.0 hdmi , my question is ,what is better to plug my blu ray player uhd on the receiver or on the tv or like I do actually with 2 hdmi ,one for the audio plug with receiver and the other ones for the video plug with the tv ? Hi! I would connect your 4K Player to your AVR with the one HDMI cable carrying audio and video. Don't go through the TV. eARC is mainly for sources that aren't supported by your AVR.

still waiting on my 4700 which i assume will be identical as the 3700. i am curious as to what exactly all the other options on the screen for the denon at 1:39 do. in any case, i'll be plugging my ps4 pro, shield pro, ub820, and switch to my 65cx and then earcing those bad boys to the 4700 when it gets here. another quick question, i am used to having everything plugged into my avr and then one single output line to my tv and selecting the source on the avr. in this flipped model, what do i set the avr to? is there an "input/source/etc." equivalent for this? im sure i'll know more when i get it in front of me again, but yeah was curious on that part. thanks man!

Hi Jim! I would leave it as is unless you get an Xbox Series X or PS5, honestly. I'm just demonstrating how to set it up. If you were to go this route, you would select "TV Audio" as the input on your Denon. The main thing you're missing will be the onscreen display and volume meter. You won't see any of that from the Denon. So I would only use this method when using a device that the AVR does not support, like the Series X.

I bought a Denon AVR-X3700H back in Feb. 22 (when I decided to go for this model I watched your review as well) Ever since I've had a redundant problem with it. The issue is that all of a sudden it turns the TV screen black and there's no way to even be able to display the setting on the screen using the remote, just on the settings are visible. So when this happens there's no way I can do something about it to make work normally. I spoke to Denon about this issue many many times I sent the device to an authorized service centre for warranty repairs but nothing works actually because every time I get it back from them it does the same thing and sent it back three times already (is still there now). I lost every hope that this will be ever dealt properly with. It does the same thing every time, despite the Service claiming that is fixed. Obviously the service don't know how to fix it but would not admit. Denon says that is up to the warranty service to decide whether to replace the unit which I find very unsatisfactory because they are not able to fix this and actually not admitting it. I write this to you hoping you'll be able to advise me what to do next. Thank you in advance. Ted (Toronto, Canada)

@@TechnoDad when i do this I can get the tv sounds through the denon but not atmos from the native tv apps. When i send them through a soundbar atmos works on the native tv apps. Also when i send a source like a media player into the denon the atmos source works. Any suggestions? to be clear both earc ports are together and TCL sends the tv sounds but but everything plays without atmos coming from the TV on the denon. I just know the tv can send the signal because it works on a supported soundbar. So what gives?

I have my tv set to passthrough through earc but my avr denon x3700 always recognize the sound as stereo when the contemt audio is definitely not stereo, is that normal? I am playing movies from amazon prime from the built in app in my set.

Amazon Prime doesn’t have much in Atmos. Try Netflix and see what happens there as they have a lot more Atmos content.

It really depends. I know Pioneer and Onkyo are coming out with new AVRs that might have HDMI 2.1 working, but I'm not 100% sure that will happen at launch.

I have a question that I could not find in your other videos. I have an apple tv 4k and a Roku Ultra box. I have a projector that does Not support ARC or EARC. I have upgraded my HDMI cables to 2.1. I plan on purchasing the Denon which supports EARC. Can I get Dolby Atmos and other Lossless audio from my streaming boxes without having an EARC connection on my projector?

What AVR are you using? You can go from streaming box to AVR to projector and that should do it.

Is there a way to get atmos with a 5.1 set up? I have three front sonance Mag8R ceiling speakers and 2 rear Sonance ceiling speakers and a Kilphish 12" sub. Running on Denon AVR-X1600H through a Samsung Q90T. Hdmi 3 earc port from TV running into the hDMI 4k Monitor port in the back of receiver. I've folled your directions on. Oth the TV and receiver and I'm still only getting 5.1 from Netflix.

Some AVRs have an Atmos Virtualizer, which takes a 5.1 mix and upmixes it to Atmos, but I'm not fond of that. Some viewers have been stating that Samsung apps aren't outputting Atmos.

That’s because the video is not going through the Denon. Download the Denon AVR app and you can see it on your phone.

Quick question, if I enable ‘4K 8K Enhanced’ on my Denon 3700 using my LG CX, and I have other components on my Denon (3 4K players, I know I’m greedy lol) plugged in, will it affect the PQ on those inputs as this was on ‘4K Enhanced’ and I don’t wanna mess up my HDMI board on the CX, make sense ?

Hi Dave! The 8K enhanced will only affect the single 8K input, so if you don't have anything plugged into that, you should be fine.

@@TechnoDad i only ask as I did use my E8 and set it to enhanced and it messed the screen up so LG had to come out and replace the HDMI board and I dare not activate 4K/8K enhanced on my New CX incase the same things happens, I have a PS5 and I have it into the LG but don’t know if I should activate the 8K Enhanced, does the receiver know that 4K is from my players and the 8K is maybe my console, when I bought the Denon they said it was safe to use the 8K port, because I have a lot of AV gear and as I said using the E8 messed my board up so do you think it’ll mess up the CX board, or will all be ok as they are both HDMI 2.1, sorry about the essay,

Well, the E8 doesn’t support 8K so Maybe the CX should work without issue. If you don’t have the PS5 going to the AVR already, then just leave it set to 4K Enhanced and not risk it.

Quick question Techno Dad- if I buy an 11.2 av can I leave out two speakers ? In other words can I use the 7 speakers that I currently have leaving two speaker jacks open with no performance lose? Or will this cause so kind of in balances in voltage?

No, you’re fine. In the Denon/Marantz menu, you have the ability to set speakers to ‘none’ if you don’t have them, so they won’t play any music or sound.

Nvidia Shield TV can do lossless audio via pass-through. Audio support: Dolby Digital Plus, Dolby Atmos, Dolby TrueHD (pass-through), DTS-X (pass-through), and DTS-HD (pass-through)

Yes, the Shield TV Pro can do that, but the signal will have to go from the Shield to an AVR like this to get all the uncompressed audio.

I saw on one of your videos that you were recommending hdmi with ethernet in order for Dolby Atmos to work. My cables are Fiber Optics 2.1 & 8k, but I don't see "ethernet" listed on Amazon or the packaging. Do you think this is the reason why the setup is not working? I thought that a 2.1 cable 8k @60hz would be ready to handle it. Also the the tv has e-arc, but the receiver is only arc.

Luv, your video's! hoping "U" can solve a problem for me?? I have a Denon(AVR-X3700H) with a 5-2-4 setup,4 speakers are (2) ceiling overhead height, and (2) SVS rear back height speakers. Problem is when I place the 3700 in the phono mode, I only get souond out of the (5) front speakers, I've changed the sound mode on the remote, (Movie,Music, Game,Pure) still only Front speakers! I want to hear LP albums played out of "All Speakers! before the 3700H I had a Onkyo RVamp with 7.1 Bose Acoustimass 15 Home Theater Speaker System, and when I played the connected Phono sound would come out of "all" speakers?? I've contacted "denon" suppor, but all these support agents are oversea's and at home and don't know how to solve problem!

Hi! If you ran room calibration then that seems normal. If you change your volume scale to dB as opposed to standard, then your room is calibrated to 0 db.

Hi Cody, I'm not sure why they would say that. 4K60Hz HDR passes through just fine. It's 4K120Hz HDR from the Xbox Series X which doesn't work.

This is all very strange to me. Why after spending all that money on a great receiver, i now need to put multiple cables through my TV when it used to all get consolidated through the receiver. To say it another way, if i have 2 devices that use the eARC format i would now have 3 cables connected to my TV (the 2 sources plus the 1 receiver input) instead of the 2 sources connecting to my receiver and 1 cable connected from the receiver to the TV. How is 1 connection from the receiver to the TV not better? Is it because eARC it's not setup on the new receivers except through 1 HDMI connection?

Hi! Only use eARC function to get sound from the TV to the AVR. I would connect everything to the AVR first. SOURCE > AVR > TV The ONLY reason to connect a source device to the TV is if the AVR does not support that device, like a n Xbox Series X or something that runs 4K 120Hz and your AVR doesn’t support it. Now you can connect from source to TV and then use eARC to send the audio to the AVR.

I think Disney+ does lossless audio. I was watching Moana through my firestick and it actually came up as dolby atmos/true hd.

My 2019 LG C9 only supports HDMI ARC and not the latest version of eARC so I’m losing out on audio and this new Denon 4700h it doesn’t support 4K120 pass through with the Xbox Series X. Back to the store this receiver goes for a refund.

Yea I did and no menu comes up on my Hisense roku tv so I took an old Visio and plugged in the hdmi to it. The Denon setup pops up on the Viso but not on the Hisense. This Denon receiver is a major headache to say the least, I finally got sound out my speakers but nothing out the sub & no sound using the arch. When I configure the speakers in the Denon setup the sub is turned on and makes noise for the speaker test but nothing when actually go to listen to music or watch tv. I have the Denon sc5000’s & love them & have always loved what Denon does for dj gear (much better price point, much better features, & better sound quality vs club stand pioneer which you can buy a cured car for the price of their Fischer priced feeling cdj’s) but good lawd this receiver is a complete nightmare along with setup not showing up on the Hisense :/

Whenever individual features are presented on the new line of Denon/Marantz receivers, it is an obligation of professional reviewers and presenters to remind the public about major HDMI 2.1 port bug those receivers still have; the bug that is yet to be explained and addressed. The single 4K120 HDMI 2.1 port does not work with XboxX (black screen). We have never been explained exactly why this is the case and what is the problem with HDMI 2.1 chipset. Also, it has never been demonstrated that 4K120Hz port is actually capable of passing through any of the Sync editions, including HDMI VRR and FreeSync. VRR was advertised, but we have never been shown whether it is included in AVR's EDID or whether it works.

I get that, but I've made a few videos on that topic already. Do I really need to include that in EVERY video about these devices? 9 months after the device has released, it was covered by me and others and if people still don't know, it's on them. I'm sure they have asked in FB groups and seen other videos and read blog posts regarding the issue.

@@TechnoDad Yes. You should include a short reference to the faulty chip in EVERY SINGLE coverage of those AVRs. Absolutely yes. Put a small image of a bug in one corner of screen. Simple prompt, but telling. Thanks for taking time to reply. Can I elaborate, please? I appreciate that it was covered by you and several other outlets months ago. And you guys are in exposed positions to influence changes and scrutinize companies, which is great. However, as you know, people's memory is short-lived. Also, Sound United has not issued update for all owners who paid thousands and thousands for those faulty receivers. They have never explained what is exactly wrong with those receivers, what solution is being prepared and when is it going to arrive. I mean, really, it's 2021. There needs to be some basic decency in communicating to public detailed plan for permanent solution. Please call them and ask for an update. Hold them to account, not just showcase fancy features. I know that it is more challenging to do that and not that pleasant, but it is necessary. They botched HDMI 2.1 big time. Furthermore, dozens of online AV magazines and dealers still never mention what is wrong with those receivers. Their receivers even get 5 star reviews and annual awards for best devices. Absurd! Completely bizarre. I have made complaints to several consumer protection authorities about it, because misleading information is multiplied and replicated over and over again by several dealers. It is not enough to cover the buggy features once or twice, as those features were so prominently advertised and still are. When you make a video about one feature, such as this one about eARC, it is perceived as if everything is ok with those receivers. Nothing to worry about. Such videos endorse those faulty receivers. It's a wrong approach, because there is selective focus on one of dozens of features. The flagship marketing feature is still broken, but this short video does not even mention it. So, it gives a false impression that the receiver is worth buying. I hope it makes sense. If you intend to cover selectively any particular feature, that's fine, as soon as you remind your viewers that there are serious caveats if they decide to purchase it. You are an influencer, so use your position to be honest about important features of devices, especially if those features do not work as intended and are still advertised. Thanks for reading this. I appreciate it. Don't forget to add a small image of bug on those receivers in all youtube video thumbnails about them. Best.

The difference between atmos on disc and atmos streamed is only measurable and in no way is atmos streamed worse than on disc. I bet 99% of the people won’t even notice/hear the difference.

You can hear the difference in the low frequencies right off the bat. You can tell streaming is compressed and level matched.. NO DYNAMICS!
