Amazing - i just picked one up for $375 on offer up to replace my Yamaha HTR-5940 (omgosh did that thing last, my buddy found it in the trash in 2012, when atmos started rolling out the dolby digital ex - kicked in hard for the first time ever) - this video answered a lot of questions thanks

While knowing that this is an old review, it was very well done and to the point. You covered all of the major basics, and I’m pretty excited that I was able to get my hands on a near mint one of these units recently. I have a Sony STR-DN1080 that has been great since it came out in 2017, but even being a 3 year old model, you are right with this unit being fairly future proof. Other than the option of hdmi 2.1, and 8K pass through, the 4400H is still a rock solid unit, and I can’t wait to go from 5.2.2 to 7.2.4 in my setup with it.

Just so you know. Even if you have only 3 seats you should ALWAYS use all 8 measurement positions. Use the first measurement for the MLP as it sets levels and distance ,2nd and 3rd measurements for the other 2 seats and then the remaining 5 measurements should concentrate on the MLP

@carlosoliveira-rc2xt
@carlosoliveira-rc2xt 5 жыл бұрын
Nah. First measurement in MLP and every other one should not be more than 2 1/2 feet from that initial measurement in a circular pattern. Stay as far away from the mic as possible while doing this or you will influence the measurement.

It's a great receiver. I have their last year version 4300 for a year and really enjoy it. 2 independent sub adjustment for bass management is outstanding. You'll hear a big difference if you add external power amps to these receivers.

There are so many choices, but you can't go wrong with either outlaw or emotiva on a budget. I personally use 3 mono blocks for fronts and one 5 channel outlaw amps for my system. I went with the AVR-X1400 because the 4400 was just out of my price range and I would rather use the money for a LG OLED 65". I was surprised that you couldn't move up from a 7.2 system till the 4400 which was a $1000 more. SO I'll be limited to a 5.1.2 system when I get my two overhead ATMOS speakers installed. Thank you for the video!!

@carlosoliveira-rc2xt
@carlosoliveira-rc2xt 5 жыл бұрын
@@morbus74 Yes, but just because there is two sub outs doesn't make it a 5.2.2 receiver. A lot of people make this mistake and now manufacturers are doing it as well. They call receivers a 7.2 yet the sub outs are just strapped together. No different than using a y-cord. I have a prepro in a bedroom setup that can process three subs independently. You can use them as stereo subs with a third sub as LFE or in my case I use the third sub out for transducers (bass shakers). It is a true 9.3 setup. This is without Dolby Atmos capability though.
@morbus74
@morbus74 5 жыл бұрын
@@carlosoliveira-rc2xt they are not necessarily strapped together.. I use anti-mode 8033II room correction solution with sub (i don't have yet two subs) and it calibrates sub automatically, no matter where i place my sub.. Well of course i don't place it just anywhere, but you know what i mean.. With that anti-mode i can use two subs with my 1400 and that way both subs are "independent".. Of course both subs need own anti-mode..

I have the 4300.. Yes, run all 8 measurements! Keep the mic within 16” or less of each mic position and MLP (tight group). I found that the MultEQ Editor App along with a mic boom stand helped tremendously. I reran Audyssey through the APP multiple times until I got it like I wanted. After Audyssey, raise your sub trim in the AVR 3-4db. I think you should keep the Denon. Mine has been great. Also, the HEOS is pretty cool! :)

Bernard Gauthier The HEOS app has been really buggy lately. Last week I was trying to use it & it wouldn't find my receiver & if it did it would randomly stop playing a song then skip to the next. Several people in the Google Play store have expressed having the same issues. Hopefully Denon pushes out an update soon because I like using HEOS.

I'm running my Denon avr x2100 with tannoy eclipse speaker package, What speakers did you use when reviewing these pieces of equipment?... People say that you should mix tannoy with Marantz or Denon because the Denon is to bright and the Marantz is too warm. Soon as i calibrated everything the machine sounded fantastic out the tannoys.... Might want to upgrade to this reciever thought.

Also, set your sub to 120 and you will need to turn down some but plenty of boom! Denon In Command Series can't be beat for the price. It is now my preferred receiver.

If I connect my retro gaming consoles with the HD RETROVISION COMPONENT CABLES into the receiver TV or the DVD component inputs to output via component video, can I still have an hdmi source connected to the TV or DVD HDMI input and and still output an hdmi signal or is it one or the other only? Granted not doing both at the same time of course. I hope that makes sense.

Hey man, I have the 3400. Do you use i/p scaler? I can't seem to find a lot of information about it. Is it just to upscale content? I knew my TV and Blu-ray player or supposed to upscale so I don't know if it's redundant or not
@HomeTheaterHobbyist
@HomeTheaterHobbyist 5 жыл бұрын
Hi! Basically I/p scaler takes lower resolution content and scales it up to whatever resolution you specify. For instance, if you specify 1080p resolution then input a DVD playing 480i content; that content will then be scaled up to 1080p resolution. The scaling will be done by whatever algorithm the manufacturer (Denon in this case) deems correct). Obviously better source material will look better so 1080i content scaled to 1080p will look much better than 480i scaled to 1080p. Now to answer your question, no I don't use the scaler. I do play lower resolution content at times and I prefer to watch at its intended resolution versus some algorithmic interpretation but obviously that's personal preference.

Great video! You mentioned the sound seemed a little low (5db). What was your benchmark for comparison? I'm looking to upgrade from my Sony STR-DN1040 which has great volume and sound, but no 4k. I tried upgrading to the Sony STR-DN1080, but ultimately returned it because the sound seemed lower and there was a substantial delay when switching inputs.

I have a Sony STR-DN1080 that I have been using for about 4 years now. It’s a very solid receiver with little to no input lag. I do have a mostly Sony system though, so that might be why I haven’t really experienced the lag that you speak of. I also found that CEC control, while nice, can be a pain and a dedicated universal remote like the Logitech Harmony Elite works much better than the remotes that Sony uses. But it’s cap of only being able to do 5.2.2 was finally the breaking point for me. I was able to get a near mint Denon AVR-X4400H on eBay for $850 this week, and can’t wait to be able to use the 3 channel amp I have with a full Klipsch RP 7.2.4 setup. This is finally going to up the ante I’m my quest for adding a projector and screen.

First off, Make sure your antenna is properly connected. Once you’re sure that is connected, select the “Tuner” input on the remote. The FM channels should be the first to come up. If not select the “Option” button on the remote and select “FM” or “AM” if that is what you’re trying to tune. In the option menu you can also select how the unit will tune. It includes auto, manual, and preselect. Find your stations and you can save them in preselects. Typically this input is set as 2 Channel stereo. If you want to change it to 5.1 surround select the red “Music” button on the remote and that will give you the various sound modes, select the one you prefer. Hope this helps
