The latest 1.5.2 Firmware Update now has function to record microphone signals. (How was this not initially set up during first release? lol). So I recommend doing the udpate ASAP!

@@FlatEarthSovereign yes, you can use any size HD that you'd like. I think the Engine prime software does great at converting Serator DJ Crates, you just have to export/import... but IMO, it's wayyyy easier than Rekordbox.

Very nice; I own a Numark Mixstream Pro and considering this one too. I also love the speakers on the Mixstream; this one instead, has battery, so for example, if you are touring etc. you can do mixes while traveling. Also waiting for Pioneer CDJ with double layers and thinking of a 6 channels mixer like Xone 62 or DJM V10 and 3 x Denon SCM 5000 or 6000. Nice review btw. Keep up!

Great review and agree with the much needed VU meters for each channel. That said, this unit is sooooo much fun...I was doing a small outdoor gig last week and the craziest thing happened. The power went out! But I was able to continue the music as I had a couple of wireless soundboks’s as well as the Go so while the caterers were running around in a panic, I was able to keep the party moving! I may not ever use my main set up again, this is so easy now! Just need a wireless light show now lol.

It honestly functions better and is primarily designed as a stand-alone player, in my opinion. If you're looking primarily for a controller with a bigger touchscreen (This one is amazingly clear and very responsive btw.) I'm sure there are other products that may better suit you. The higher level Prime gear perhaps you should consider. I totally recommend Denon all the way.

Anytime. Reviews are meant to sway people either way. I use the Prime Go for traveling, practicing sets, and streaming. It's not the primary piece of gear. @@DJUnprotected Thanks for your reply. :) I travel a lot as well and to be honest hate controllers and having my laptop hooked on. That's why I was interested in this Denon, but after the complains with the tiny jog wheel and missing cue channel levels I am kind a lost my interest...
@DJUnprotected
@DJUnprotected 3 жыл бұрын
@@kutasimusic Those complaints are too real... On my DJ-505 I keep vinyl mode on, but when using the Prime Go, I have to turn vinyl off bc I bump the jog wheels so much. The lack of individual channel metering is annoying and as much as I try to match the levels when mixing, I can hear the irregularities during my mix recordings. I don't regret buying the Prime Go, but... it's not my primary piece of gear for several reasons. I've been looking in to the Prime 4 because I like the Engine software and want to get away from DJing with a laptop :D

@@DJUnprotected Probably I wouldn't care that much about the these issues if this Denon was less expensive. The Go literally the price of a Pioneer XDJ-RX1 or XDJ-RR, but not to far from the Denon's Prime 2 and 4 either which is quite 'interesting'. But it's an unique device and don't think anyone does a compact all in one like this. :) The issues we were talking about could have been fixed via a firmware or setting. Have you not tried?
@DJUnprotected
@DJUnprotected 3 жыл бұрын
@lsl That is awesome advice. I'll consider getting platinum notes based on your experience. It seems like new DJ controllers don't have volume meters anymore, like the new Reloop ready. So normalizing the library might be the way to go. Thanks for the advice!

I had the same issue with jog wheel sensitivity. HOW’d YOU FIX IT? Trying the nudge the track faster or slower was problematic. But it is a really fun controller. I hooked up a wireless dongle to pair with a speaker to be completely wireless and it worked perfectly!
@DJUnprotected
@DJUnprotected 3 жыл бұрын
Under settings you are able to adjust the sensitivity. I still think it takes some getting used to which is why I recommend this rig for practicing sets or pop-up house parties. Not sure I'd solely rely on the prime go for paid gigs... yet!

Are you suggesting as a total beginner I am better off learning on a pioneer setup? I am an old dude and pro musician and decided I want to become full time DJ. Not sure if I should be considering Denon 6000 or pioneer CDJ 3000. I plan on doing this for life and have the time & resources to make it happen. I live in Austin TX and all the DJs use pioneer gear so would be hard to find a local mentor. Any advice my friend? FYI....I am a psych trance fanatic and obsessed with trance music.
@DJUnprotected

Well, allow me to welcome you to the DJ community! Congrats on joining the DJ team. I think that learning a pioneer setup is very beneficial because lots of clubs, and other DJs are in the pioneer echosystem (CDJs & rekordbox). I think the Denon DJ Prime Go is a great piece of gear for people wanting an extra DJ console that's portable. I wouldn't recommend it as a main system or for a beginner because there are pretty steep learning curves. I'd recommend that you pick up a couple of pioneer CDJs or XDJs and a nice mixer to get your setup going. You could also get the XDJ-XZ, too. No matter what you get, just make sure it's portable for your needs, and that you practice on it all the time. I could DJ on my Prime Go and Roland DJ 505 while blind folded.. that's how much I play on them, and you should do that too. Let me know if you need any other advice. Again, welcome to one of the funnest and most enjoyable communities out there!

Its a fun little rig to jam on and it's a good piece of gear to practice sets on. I wouldn't recommend this to a beginner because you will still need to get started on software and building a library. I'd recommend this piece of equipment to DJs who already have other gear (controllers & laptop setup) and want something extra for traveling, etc. If you're looking to get back in to DJing, I'd recommend getting a cheaper controller and get integrated with software like Serato or Rekordbox... then when you're ready, jump over to the Denon eco-system if you wanna invest more in to the standalone gear. Just my two cents! :)

You’re right… it’s a dope system. So the DDJ 400 is a good controller but only works with Rekordbox. I’m mainly a Serato user which is why that very portable controller isn’t in my studio. If you’re dead set on using Rekordbox, then I say use rock with the DDJ 400. But at the same price point and versatility, I like the Roland, Reloop, and Hercules options instead.

@@DJUnprotected Yeah I really dislike this proprietary business with DJ controllers. Why are we limited to specific software when we spend good money on hardware? Rhetorical question (money!) but there's another reason I have to stick to Pioneer products: where I live service / support centers don't exist for Denon, Hercules, and many others. Anyway thanks for the reply. I'm looking fwd to Pioneer's answer to a standalone Dj controller with battery and internal memory. The ball is in their court

What’s nuts about the levels problem is that Denon had this problem solved in its old 2-channel mixers 20 years ago. Why not now? Also, only the prime 4 is in stores now, these Go units have been simply unavailable for what seems like forever. They are on back/pre order, meaning Denon is getting the money from their supplier’s customers first, then using it to make another production run. Totally uncool. Yeah, maybe Denon’s marketing hype worked and we want the thing, but now that we can’t get it I’m looking around at substitute gear and see a lot of nice stuff available for less. Come to think of it, I could use a new laptop more, even if I have to stay on an old controller so what I can still stream tunes in... whatever!
@DJUnprotected
@DJUnprotected 3 жыл бұрын
Those are some good points. It might be possible that the pandemic negatively affected Denon's ability to manufacture enough Prime Go's. But, now that you mention it, I pre-ordered my Prime GO in February expecting it to be available in March and it wasn't actually shipped to me until June. The system was worth the wait and it is fun to jam on. I'm interested in what you end up doing... whether you upgrade to a new laptop or wait for the Prime Go to be available again. Let me know! :D

A big heads up, Despite all of the things Prime Go can do it can't separate the VU on the master meter for individual channels. This thing is a piece of crap if you can't even level your music. Buy something else until Denon gets their act together. People have been on the forum bitching about this since April. No fix in sight. Garbage waste of time Prime Go is.
@DJUnprotected
@DJUnprotected 2 жыл бұрын
I appreciate your opinion on this. I was really frustrated initially without having a VU meter for individual channels. I don't care how well my ears are trained, it's super difficult to match audio levels using split OR stereo headphone cues. This is the main reason why my Prime Go is a practice & travel rig. I use it for small fun get togethers and to practice my sets. I won't go far to say it's garbage tho. Pretty cool system, but also $1K for a practice rig is pretty steep!
