Denon's Heos line of streaming products have become more popular in the last year or so. See this video for some Heos app basics and a tutorial.

If you like playing music that is on your phone (as opposed to in an app), Heos may be for you as Sonos doesn't allow for this functionality. Heos also comes built-in to many of our Marantz and Denon audio/video receivers where adding Sonos to these same pieces would cost an additional $449.00.

Thanks for the explanation. If I do the same procedure to Tidal. Am I able to cast in Master Quality Audio?

It depends on the device. I'm not 100% on this but most Heos devices with Tidal allow for 44.1kHz vs 192.

Thanks for the explanation. This worked fine with the old Heos app. But since they updated the app, I am no longer able to add network shares. When I go into the Music servers sections there are no options to pick or add a share. Do you have any idea how to solve this?

Thanks for letting us know. We haven't tried this lately to see if there is a potential issue. I would call Sound United - Heos and see if their tech support can take you through it. If there is a recent known problem, they may hear about it first.

Heos works well with the music sources listed in the app and it does not work well at all with Apple music. Not sure who is to blame apple or heos but don’t see Heos working with a lot of music sources unless you get an expensive amp

True...Heos doesn't work at this point with Apple Music. The amplifier choice won't make a difference as it just supplies the power but not the brain. The "brain" is what lets you get the various apps. If someone likes and uses Apple Music (we like Apple Music), the options are to either use Airplay with Heos and to zap it from your device to the Heos system or to choose another streaming platform. At this point, Sonos is the only reliable choice we've found to do the latter.

What if I would like to listen to google podcasts? I mean, you don't need necessarily HEOS to play Spotify content on your Denon speakers.

HEOS is the streaming platform that you will find in many of Denon's/Marantz's products. However, you don't need to use the HEOS app for Spotify content. I regularly use Spotify Connect to listen to music on our Denon 150 streaming speaker that is HEOS-enabled. I can use the HEOS app to access other functions for that speaker (ex: streaming high-res...streaming music off my phone's library, group that speaker with other HEOS components so they all play the same thing). Bottom line...People who use Spotify a lot (like me) may just use the Spotify app when connecting to a single speaker and not using high-res. Hopefully this helps!

Does album art display on TV? With Denon or any brand? When using the proprietary music apps? What's the difference between streaming this way vs casting via chromecast or other? Thx

The benefits of using Heos are that it is free (if you have a receiver with it built-in), it allows you to have wireless speakers in various areas (think of these as modern boom boxes), it is MUCH more reliable that casting or using Bluetooth and it allows you to group multiple areas of music so you can have the same song playing everywhere through your house. The disadvantage of Heos is you don't have cover art like you do if you use apps through a device like a Roku, Fire Stick. Sometimes the native app can provide a better experience as well.

Does the HEOS app require subscription or cost $$ to use? Thinking of using the Dnp 800ne for music streaming

No. Many apps cost $$$ (ex: Spotify) but there are free apps as well that can be used with Heos.

I have a deezer hihi account but Heos transmits only in 320 kbps format. In future updates will the problem be solved? I hope so

It depends on which Heos system you have. Some Heos products support Airplay so if you have Apple devices, you could Airplay from your device to your Heos product. You could also Bluetooth to the specific Heos product. Either of these should work.

I haven't been able to listen to music from my iPhone with HEOS to my Denon AVR X2600H in any way for months. Could you give me a solution. I only use it to listen to music through that channel and with this problem I haven't been able to use my Denon AVR for months. Thank you very much

What happens when you try to load it? Does it look like the app is functioning the same way but then you get some form of error message? If nothing plays or if you get an error message, try deleting the Heos app and then re-add it. See if it works after you do that.

@@j.m.3666 I would try the delete the app...re-add the app trick first. If this doesn't work, try calling Denon to see if they can take you through it.

HEOS has been a massive disappointment for me with my new Marantz NR1711. Tidal- tracks only play at standard quality Spotify- app opens Spotify app but the Marantz is not found Streaming from PC DLNA servers- either no music show up at all on the app or on the Marantz unit, or some tracks show up but the unit says "cannot decode" BTW I'm no hifi, computer or net-working novice and I my music files are in the usual hi-res formats like flac, aiff, dsd.

I would check with Sound United re: the hi-res formats to see if they can give you any info. Re: Spotify Connect, look for a button that says something like "search for more devices" or related. You may see the Marantz populate once you do this. I had to do this with a new Sonos device that didn't initially show in the tree of devices.

Natively...not yet. Just so we're clear, are you wondering if there is a desktop app so a computer can be hard-wired and work as a Heos controller or are you asking about Heos devices being wired or WiFi? If the former, there is no desktop app (but there are some 3rd party/emulators).

What do you mean...you want to play music on two Heos streaming speakers/processors simultaneously or you want to play music on your phone AND on a Heos streaming device at the same time?

@@robertswi You can. To be clear, you need Heos-enabled speakers or devices. Ex: Heos 150 portable speaker in one room and a Heos soundbar in another room. These can be grouped in the app so they are playing the same thing.

@@airetheaterdesigns I have a similar question - my situation: I have a Marantz in one room and will have a Denon in the front living room (both with HEOS capability). I want to play same song, same time, through both systems simultaneously. So will the HEOS app connect to both the Marantz and Denon at the same time and play music through them both? I do not have Heos streaming speakers nor do I really want any if I can accomplish through both AV receivers.

HEOS is useless. You cannot load more than 300 songs into the playback queue... Try to shuffle play your music and it will only play the first songs in alphabetical order (Mine loads up to the letter C). I had to buy a node 2i to playback my music...

This app is a nightmare!!! Literally, I have my music stored on SD card, there is no way I can change the folder were I store music to SD card in the app. No chance to play my FLAC files from the phone to my denon AVR, so disappointing. Do not buy that crap!

I would check with Sound United and see if they have an answer for you. If you choose "This Phone" prompt in the Heos app, does that not allow your phone to play music from your files?
