Sometimes I feel like theres just no good answer, its all too expensive and not how I'd want to live. Just so depressing that dental insurance try to work around your missing teeth and that getting implants can cost like a down payment on a car. Everything that's meant to protect or help you is really just meant to exploit you in the end.

just stumbled across your channel and in addition to the informative advice you provide, your whole vibe is very positive and approachable. wish more dentists and orthodontists or just people generally were like you! it's good energy and makes you a pleasure to watch. i have one back molar missing after removal due to the tooth falling apart after procedures of root canal, fillings and then crown. i know that implant is probably the primary option for me although i haven't gotten it addressed because i don't like the idea of fake objects implanted in my jaw. i've just left it as is. i went in to the dentist's office to get something unrelated done - a filling - and she explained that the top molar hadn't "dropped down" into the empty space where the molar used to be because one of my other bottom teeth was basically blocking it from doing so.

I had two teeth pulled for my ortho treatment. One was a lower front tooth pulled due to lack of space in the arch and the other was a molar that had quite a history of damage and decay. The orthodontist closed the space up front and have been maintaining space for a future implant for the molar.

I have 2 missing teeth and also considered implants until surprisingly my dental assistant suggest that I get braces instead to close the gaps, straighten my teeth and correctly align my jawline in the process. I never had problems with my wisdom teeth so thankfully at 49 I still have them and am able to use them to now push in my top row of missing teeth to close the gaps. All of this cost me @ $6000. I put $2000 down and make $148/ mo payments which is very affordable for me to manage. The whole experience has been great. My ortho dr is AMAZING! I will have worn metal braces for only a total of 2 years by the time they are scheduled to come off in May 2022. This was definitely the right choice for me as opposed to implants. Metal braces or even invisiline (my daughter has those but they cost a bit more) is a great option because you get more bang for your buck. Braces are also beneficial for correctly reconstructing your face shape and jawline as opposed to just getting a new tooth put in.

My daughter was congenitally missing both of her lateral incisor baby teeth. She was also missing one of her adult lateral incisors and had on palatal impacted canine tooth. She had braces and the oral surgeon did the exposure and the orthodontist used to chain to guide the canine in. She did not have any problems with any of that. She completed or orthodonic treatment and now she just has a space where her left lateral incisor should be.Our dentist is going to do something to fill the space while she finishes growing. He said she can get an implant once she is fully grown. I watched this video to learn more about what can be done because our dentist hasn't shared his specific plan yet. She had some other dental work that needed to be done. She has to see an endodontist for one of her teeth. Then when we go back to her regular dentist for a crown he is also going to address her space.

I believe titanium implants have their place. However unfortunately dentist often do not adequately inform patients about one of the shortcomings of this method restoring a dental arch and preventing bone loss. This shortcoming exists because titanium implants are not attached to alveolar bone in the same way that normal roots are attached. Titanium implants are attached by osseointegration. Bone grows into the metal, fusing with the metal. Normal roots are attached via soft tissue called peridontal ligaments. Ligaments grow into the bone, as well as into the tooth, attaching the tooth to the bone. These enable the tooth to do 2 things that osseointegrated titanium cannot. (1) The soft ligaments function as a shock absorber. (2) They are part of a system that allow the alveolar bone to remodel around the tooth, should force be applied to the tooth. Due to the ability of the bone to remodel,, as the teeth wear, and as the person ages and age works on their facial bones, teeth can subtly change their position relative to each other, thus preserving a good bite. Orthodontia takes advantage of this ability of bones to remodel around teeth, in response to forces on the teeth. With a titanium implant however, bone cannot remodel around it as force is applied to the tooth. Thus should the position of an implant, with age, become less than ideal, it cannot be moved into a better position using orthodontia. Their position is so rigidly fixed, that orthodontists sometimes use implants to help stabilize a bite, around it, moving all the other natural teeth, relative to the fixed position of the implant. The word oseointegration is sort of a euphemism for ankylosed. Osseointegration of titanium has its use, but it is not a good thing in its entirety.

This is excellent information because I'm saving to pay for my braces out of pocket. However I've had a missing upper left molar for years (about 18) and I doubt there is adequate enough bone in the space. What are the best options in that case? I'm also glad I didn't listen to the dentist that attempted to persuade me into braces after my tooth fracture because I would have hated to have all my upper teeth on the left. This is so tough. I have crowns on almost all my teeth due to pain and clenching. I’ve now lost 2 teeth one on top near the front and one in back. Both have had root canals so there is still a piece there. But because they are on top and bottom, implant is basically my only choice since all the teeth around are already crowned. But my TMD has gotten worse and I clench worse now with shifting teeth. The one near the front is visible so I don’t smile open mouthed anymore. My teeth and smile were my pride and joy now not so much. Since I’m 64 and retired my dental coverage is shit nothing is covered anymore. It makes me very sad.

I've seen so many failed dental implants and bridges. I will never do it. It's a waste of money, pain and time! Either get a removable or dentures when the time comes, and no I have not yet personally experienced either but I've had enough (unnecessary) root canals, tooth extractions and crowns to know what I do not want. Many, not all dentist are just in it for the money and/or experience to add to a resume. Best of wishes

I have to agree. I have a bunch of missing molars & my mouth is like a left over building site which started with the TERRIBLE dental care you get in the UK. I have spent so much time, discomfort & money in my 58 years that I am fed up with wasting money on my teeth. The least few times I had a toothache & simply told the dentist to yank it out. One day I will be faced with sticking my food in a blender but until then I have had enough of it...

And if we were made to cut out ALL sugars when we were young to have good teeth health by ALL adults we would be much better off now. Jordan Peterson said he had Gingivitis for 30 years, he went carnivore for mental and physical health issues and his dentist for the first time told him his Gingivitis was gone,,,, after 30 years of it. The SAD(Standard American Diet) diet is the problem.... Sugar is candy for tooth decay and cancer and should be put on some drug control list. Homosapien Sapiens had better teeth than we do.

Yes to a second video! I have a daughter that is missing both front side teeth (adult lateral incisors). She was born without them. I was told by her dentist that either we can move her back teeth to close the gap, then file the teeth to make it look like normal front teeth. Or do implants. The one option is okay, but it does look a little off on people’s smiles, and the implant option can be a bit pricey. (Is there a recommended age before you do implants?) She’s young, only 8 now, but trying to learn what our options are and to start saving up now! 😬

Hi I was born with the same teeth missing and I've been in braces now for a year. I was given the same options and decided to open the gap for implants. My sister had the same case years ago and she decided to move her canines forward and file them to close the gap. I think the implant option is the best as my sister has a very narrow smile now and is looking to get more work done to her teeth as she's not happy with her smile anymore. I have fake teeth on the braces to cover the gaps for now and I couldn't be happier with how my smile is looking. I would definitely go for the implant option, I think it's the best in the long run.

I am missing my adult upper laterals as well. I did canine sub. I think it looks ok, on me, but it may be because I have small teeth (in general). Having an experienced orthodontist, who feels confident (about either option) would be important. An orthodontist who is willing to go over the pros and cons of both with you, for her individual case. Possibly do a mock up of each option too? Either digitally and/or molds? If that is an option...I don't know for sure if they would do that...it is a lot of work. But pre-planning seems important. Does she have large or small teeth? Any over jet? Other tooth sizes and how the occlusion/bite and arches would fit together and function. Function, aesthetics (looks), time and cost. The different options are better for different people. So....all those factors, plus a little preference as well (within realistic reason). Will help you decide. It's great you are considering all options, to help figure out what is best for her individual case. If you choose implants...ask to see the dentist's implant portfolio. So you can see their work, if possible.

"Teeth like to touch" so they will start shifting once there's a gap. The opposing tooth will "super errupt" or grow towards the gap, throwing off your bite. The adjacent teeth will slowly shift towards each other and the bone that the tooth used to utilize will start to resorb and if you lose enough teeth, your face will lose vertical dimention. That gap creates extra space for food and bacteria to build, increasing the risk of decqy to its neighbor teeth. The bone loss will over time will expose the soft dentin roots of surrounding teeth and you can develop abfraction lesions, which are very destructive to the longevity of your teeth

If it’s the bottom molar missing, then the upper, will slowly come down searching for that missing bottom molar. In my case I waited too long to get my implant, and now there’s no space for the implant to fit, because the upper molar is hanging too low. I have braces now to pull those upper molars back up, as well as close up those black triangles, and straighten bottom teeth. So I can eventually get an implant in the bottom.

I had several successful implants and very satisfactory. I needed a new implant and had the initial part done, but due to asthma had to go in hospital and received massive doses of steroids, which combined with infection caused me to lose the implant and a lot of bone. In fact, two adjoining teeth in front were lost, leaving me a three tooth gap right in front and now not sufficient bone to support implants. One option is a bridge, but cost is $8,000.00 for a bridge and no assurance it will last; other option is to remove 2 additional teeth and do implant bridge, but that’s $20,000.00. Just wearing the temporary dentures I was given lets me know so uncomfortable I would not wear it. At 76 I don’t know how I can afford either good option. My only thought is that since it happened due to medical problem, is there any way medical insurance could be applicable. Dental insurance payments so minimum almost unhelpful. What about the option of having work done at a Dental School? Is that a possibility that might work?

Likewise I am reasonably certain there are some mediocre dentists, and any number of rather unreliable dentists - just like in as the US. And yes the cost is significantly less. There are some difficulties though, in getting Mexican dental care. By the way I have had hernia surgery in Canada, paying about 1/3 of what I would have paid in the US, for a more experienced surgeon. But heading back south - I'll have some difficulties getting Mexican dentistry. There is considerable expense travelling to Mexico from Western North Carolina US and staying in hotels on the way. My Spanish is miniscule. I know the numerals from cero to nueve, and important phrases like tortillas, friholes, and bano. Not a lot more. Yes I know many dentists cater to English-speaking patients. What do you think, compared to dentists who cater to the local people, do they cost mas o menos? And how do I distinguish between the better dentists and the worser dentists. I have trouble doing this in the US. I spent some time in my 20's as a dental technician and latger as a inventory clerk and accounts payable clerk for a group dental practice. I have far more understanding of what dentistry is about than the average patient. Yet when I move into new town, it takes me years of trial and error before I find a dentist whom I can trust. Ask patients? No no no! Most people have no conception of the quality of dentistry they have been getting. Dentists know who the other dentists are, in their area, that do good work. Dental hygienists know. Working dental technicians know. Dental assistants who have a lot of exprience figure it out. Most patients have no idea. The orthodontist gave my son a flipper (retainer with fake teeth) for his two missing teeth. He plans on keeping it instead of getting a bridge or implants. It's way cheaper than any of the other ways.

I am going to have to get a flipper due to the fact that my other teeth aren’t strong enough to even attach it to them and I have yet to find out just how bad it’s gotten. This is all a result of using a sublingual medication for years! I’m on disability for epilepsy so already strapped for money! So sad for everyone stuck in this position. Dentists think it’s just a simple answer to get implants but damn, I’m sorry but we all don’t have that kind of money! ONE can easily be around $2,000! I’m talking my entire mouth at this point!!! So looking like dentures at 45 and all due to a damn medication I was told was safe!

I wasn't able to move my impacted tooth down because of how it was laying sideways in my mouth. So I have a missing tooth that I will be fixing with an implant

I have a missing lower incisor and the gap is minor, i am closing the gap with braces without an implant? Will it look bad? Will it affect my biting or are there any side affects?

I'm going to the oral surgeon soon to have the rest of my number 18 tooth removed. I went threw a ordeal before covid happened. I will say that I'm upset my tooth isn't savable but I'm happy to rid myself of the pain.

Yeah, I know your feeling. I had two back lower left molars removed right before the Covid shut things down. Tried to go back to two oral surgeons and they closed down due to Covid. I am trying to find one to get rid of the roots of my right lower molars. It's been two years waiting. Luckily no pain just some soreness.
