No matter what happen, I'm still happy that Jung Hwan was able to properly confess to deok sun until the end. Even if he declared that it's a joke for his friends, Deok sun knows it's real. She was just shocked that Jung Hwan admitted that he liked her for real because that's what she's been waiting for before. Both of them knows that they will never be together as lovers when that confession happened. That confession is like the acknowledgement of what happen between them. That they really had something. It is also the closure for both of them. They already grow as a different individuals with different priorities and maturity hits them too. I believe that Jung Hwan's confession protected their friendships. If he didn't said that it's a joke, imagine that 2 of their friends will feel awkward and being torn and that they will blamed theirselves cause they were insensitive of Jung Hwan's feelings. Deok Sun can't treat Jung Hwan as her real friend just like before she will feel guilty for being happy with Taek. That's why the confession scene is one of the best thing that ever happened in the drama. I cried with happy tears cause Jung hwan can finally forgive himself and move on. I'm team Jung Hwan forever. Just my opinion.

he is not a coward, he just chose friendship. he knew that taek will be hurt if he admitted his feelings. he already knew that deok sun has feelings for him (JH). if he confessed, he knew they will both lose taek.

I think it is taek that deoksun loves from the start, she just didn't realize it. It is why she couldn't sleep when her date with taek was cancelled. It is also why taek is always in her mind even though no one told her that he likes her. Junghwan knew it, so when he confessed, he said to their friends that it was only a joke as a sign that he already gave up on her. But I think deoksun knew that he really meant it.

Actually he never says something like that. Instead he admits to himself that he lost her because of his constant hesitations, realizing he wasn't brave enough, unlike Taek. Because he remained silent while using "timing" as an excuse, until finally admitting to himself that timig had nothing to do with his fate, understanding that not declaring his love for DeokSun was his own fault but still there shouldn't be no drama or suffering about it, that he had to live with his decision. “In the end, fate and timing do not just happen out of coincidence. They are products of earnest, simple choices, that make up miraculous moments. Being resolute, making decisions without hesitation - this is what makes timing. He wanted her more than I did, and I should have been more courageous. It was not the traffic lights’ fault. It was not timing. It was my many hesitations”, "... there are no regrets or tears, no need for suffering".

He was mean to her. There were plenty of times when he belittled her. Whereas Taek truly valued DS and cared for her. He even canceled their Saturday date to give way to DS and JW.

No one can say me he is second lead. He was absolute main lead for straight 18 episodes. I always thought Doek-sun married with him for 18 eps. We watchhed their story, Taek was not even there so many times. Then something happened and they changed the main lead or we can say second lead won because he was more brave to admit his love. I was hurted bc they didn’t even show him in last 2 eps! At least they should have writen him a good end. So dissappointed.

Your comment reflects your immaturity. It is a lot more complicated than that. Personally, I believe that Jung Hwan had stronger feelings for Deok sun relative to Taek. However, even if we assume that both of them had the same level of feelings for Deok sun, its just that Jung Hwan had to overcome more of his inner obstacles to confess his love. He was just made that way. This was reflected even in his interactions with his family. It does not mean, in any way, that Taek had more stronger feelings for Deok sun and that is why he got the girl.

I rewatched Reply 1988 for the millionth time today and honestly, Jongpal could have had Deokson but he was always second guessing himself too much. At one point, even Taek gave up on her because he wanted Jongpal to go for her, but what did Jongpal do? Nothing 😓💔 He took too long to finally man up, and when he finally did, Taek already shoot his shot. He didn't hesitate.

The difference is that he tried to risks it. But it the latter ep you can see that Jungpal had lots of hesitations, he also said it himself on his monologue while in yhe car at the later ep

So how am i supposed to move on from the heartbreak this drama has caused me?? 😭💔 The realization he had when timing was not a coincidence but something created through one’s own actions and simple decisions of not hesitating and taking risks. The way Junghwan confessed was so sweet & sincere but heartbreaking at the same time. He even pretended it was just a prank in the end so it wouldn’t hinder with DeokSun and Taek’s relationship and not make things awkward for all of them. He knew that he had to let her go because it’s already too late 💔

It's the first kdrama I watch, and I can't get over.. It's 2023 and I come here and cry.. I am sad for Jung-hwan, not because they were not together, but because he never confessed his feelings, nor to his best friend, he just walked away and hid his feelings, the director neglected his character and didn't even put an end worthy of him, I grieve for these sincere feelings of love, I feel sad for all the Jong-hwan in our world, they are many around us but we do not notice them. Dear Jung-hwan in our world, please express your feelings, express sadness, anger, love and all feelings and do not neglect them. :'(

Its actually so sad. I watched this drama a long time ago and decided to rewatch it but I cant really finish the whole the drama because its so heartbreaking. Then later on I learned that its a real life based drama and Taek ended up with deokseon because Junghwan was suppose to die. He died in the original plot. They dated and Junghwan died so Taek ended up with her
