Part 8: • Deon Cole on Getting a...
Part 1: • Deon Cole Responds to ...
--------
In this clip, Vlad spoke to Deon Cole about his “Cole Hearted” Netflix special, which was followed by “Charleen’s Boy,” where he talked about being an only child. Speaking more about the latter, Deon explained that his mother’s passing caught him off guard, and he added that her death was surrounded by his aunt and uncle’s passing. From there, Deon spoke about how the Netflix special came together and why he wanted to keep his mom’s legacy going. Deon explained that he performed the special on the one-year anniversary of his mother’s death, and he spoke about how difficult is was to get himself to the venue and through his set. From there, Deon spoke about finding other people his age who have lost their parents, which led to Vlad speaking about his experience with losing a parent. To hear more, including Deon speaking about losing his father years prior but not feeling the same as losing his mother, hit the above clip.

I’m 43 also and only child , I lost my dad when I was 29 and my mom when I was 33. It still affects me to this day, I think about them every day. To all of you who still have one or both of your parents hug them kiss them tell them how much you love them cuz once they are gone it’s over. It’s a trip cuz since then I got married, bought a house have two beautiful daughters and I still feel a void. Stay up everyone!

Facts. I lost my mom October 5, 2020 & I lost my father May 12, 2022. I almost cried when Deon said he lost his mom a year to the day because I understood his pain. I’m very proud of him for doing that special and honoring his mother. I try to do things in my everyday life to honor my parents. I have a hard time grieving because I know it’s going to last forever so I put it off as much as I can but I let it out when I absolutely need to cry a little it’s a very painful thing to go through. I thank God for my parents everyday and I do my best. I’m happy Deon did his special. It meant a lot to me. There’s a whole community of us who understand and it feels good to remember our parents together and talk about them with our community.

Yes he did. It almost had me in tears. The filming was on the 30th year of my mother being gone and I didn't even think about it until Deon told his story. I lived longer without my parents than with them so I can only imagine how much more it hurts when you've spent an entire lifetime with someone and then lose them .

My Dad passed December 2019 then my mom passed May 2020, Then my younger and only brother July 2022. All out of nowhere, no warnings, no hospital visits, no goodbye just gone. I know what he's going through, you look up and realize your immediate family is gone in the physical form is a sobering and freighting thing. I have always valued my time and never tried to waist it. But after these last few years, my time above ground can't and won't be in vain. Tomorrow is a gift and I treat it as such. I'm glad he had the strength to be able to share his comedic gift with the fans that night. A true soldier. Keep making Charleen and the rest of the family proud.

Man I watched this mans special and absolutely loved it, and then at the end when disclosed that his mom passed a year ago it bugged me out that he could get through it. But he dedicated it to her which made it special. I had a similar experience sort of, I’m an entertainer and had a wedding gig on a Saturday but my pops passed the night before so I didn’t want to do the gig but it was my band so I didn’t want to ruin this couples special day, but believe me it was the hardest gig I ever did and in between sets I would walk out in the woods and break the F down. Life is rough sometimes respect to this brother 🙏🏼

Reading the comments and listening I have to do better with my parents 😔…. I still have them both and it’s obviously a blessing and it shows but we don’t talk on a daily bases n when we do it’s always sometimes silence at some points…. Wow I’m Tearing up writing this… but I couldn’t imagine loosing them I absolutely love them both and couldn’t imagine life without them…I truly love them both… I’m going to show them and tell them today how much they mean to me !!!!!

Great! Hope you have reached out to them. Honestly , it's not an exaggeration to say life will never be thesame again once our parents are gone. So please not only do you have to tell them in so many ways how much you love, respect, proud and appreciate them, but show them consistently. I mean not only on their birthdays, Xmas or Thanksgiving, because those are expected m, but out of nowhere. Make a reservation and take them for a lunch or dinner, seperatly and together. God bless you and your loving parents. May He grant you all many more healthy and happy years together.

My mom died December 31 2006. And to get thru it I tell myself that GOD CHOSE US BECAUSE HE KNOWS WE CAN HANDLE IT. Even tho it feels like we’re not handling it well
