Everyone should be blamed not just the education system. The parents, community, and the learners themselves. It's just frustrating to see these youths not knowing the answers of very basic history questions. This just goes to show that history isn't a priority nowadays due to technology and social media. I bet they even have more knowledge about the autobiography of their idols than the history of the philippines. One reason why i think this is happening is because of the influence of other cultures in our country. Youth patronize other cultures such as korean and american cultures rather than filipino culture.

Philippine History is very important to all Filipinos. I hope Deped makes the lessons interesting for the students so they remember the basics even after the students have already graduated.

I'm almost 60 yrs old, Philippine history still fresh in my mind, and never forget, im very interested in history specially Philippines,. And the question is an easy one. Im proud that our history.

Education is not about how a student answers a question. It's about how a student learns a lesson. Edit: Learning a lesson is a broader sense. When you are able to answer questions, it doesn't mean that you have internalized what the teacher taught. But when you learned the lesson of the teacher, specifically the learning competencies, you can use this in your whole life, because it is what we call the stored knowledge. Simply answering questions cannot assure learning, you might just guessed, someone might just whispered the answer, and the like.

I am a Grade 11 Student at kahit papaano ay alam ko pa rin iyang topic na iyan. Huwag po natin lahat isisi sa mga guro ang ganito klase ng mga bagay kasi karamihan po sa kanila ay ginagawa ang makakaya upang maturuan kaming mga estudyante. Sa katunayan, nasa estudyante na iyan kung makikinig ba siya sa itinuturo or idinidiscuss ng teachers... Hindi po sa pagmamayabang pero naaalala ko na una kong na encounter ang topic na iyan way back when I was in Grade 5, first or second quarter ata. Pero I won't judge them if baka nadiscuss na nila iyon pero talagang nakalimutan na nila dahil sa totoo lang madami na kasing topic ang nasa high school na baka naging cause ng pagkalito o pagkalimot nila. I hope wag Po nating isisi lahat ito sa DepEd because not all of the people managing and under this government agency is not doing their job... ginagawa din naman po nila Ang lahat para matulungan kaming mga mag-aaral.

I'm disappointed, kahit yung mga last section sa high school noon alam na alam yung nickname ni Rizal. Maiintindahan ko pa kung hindi na sila teenager or graduate na at may ibang pinagkakaabalahan kasi talagang may reason makalimutan. But those are teenagers and still in school so fresh parin yang lessons sa utak nila. Maybe they're pressured at that moment but aren't we all while taking quizzes about history? This is so sad.

1. hindi priority ang pagaaral, kaya sila pumasok dyan para magartista 2. karamihan sa mga bata ngayon puro social media, online games, copy-paste, walang retention sa mga lessons 3. mukhang ang iba sa kanila ay may ibang lahi o kaya naman hindi talaga masyadong interesado sa history ng bansa, nagturo ako sa international school at hirap ang mga bata sa ph history at fil subjects

Dapat malaman ng mga kabataan, kung ano ang lahi nila, tribe, kung saang bansa nanggaling, dapat malaman din nila ang history ng pilipinas

It was not DepEd's fault. We are the ones who learn about various things from school and if we fail to gain knowledge, it is no longer a probrom of the educators.. IT IS OURS!

To think these kids were selected from thousands who auditioned. They were not chosen based on academic merit but the questions are very basic. During my time, even below average student can quickly give the correct answer to those questions and I came from a public school in the province. Nakakagulat at nakakalungkot to. Can we all stop blaming each other for this. As a student, I have to admit that a lot of us cannot remember some of the details in Philippine History, but that doesn't mean that we need to blame different people. Our country is advancing and making a lot of history. The things that need to be learned by the generation today are not limited to the history of their origin. We are also tasked and pressured to learn some new stuff because of our technological advancement. My opinion doesn't necessarily mean that we should forget about the basic Philippine History, instead let's try to understand each other's perspective in terms of living.

Kawawa yung mga nasa bundok tapos top honors sa school na may gusto pumasok sa PBB para iangat buhay ng pamilya nya pero dahil hindi nabiyayaan ng good looks tulad ng mga andito, hindi nakuha sa PBB. Everything is available on the internet. The next time you blame teachers, ask yourself, did you even try to know and study our history when the resources are widely available? Did you even listen to your teacher when you had this discussion? Yes, teachers play a great role here but learning is two-way. STUDENTS and PARENTS should also do their part. I studied in the philippines for 10 years, while now studying abroad, nakita ko kung difference ng education system, mas natutunan ko ng mabuti ang history nila kesa sa philippines, they give importance in ECC(law&citizenship), history, geography and languages and basic math, we study 5/6 hours a day, with no pressure in assignments and projects. Walang top 1 to 10/ confidential and grades, we have therapists like pyschothera, extra courses/activies to spend in the afternoons depende kung gusto namin mag enroll sa music, soccer, dance. Madami pa akong gustong sabihin pero masasabi ko we need to change the education system, revise textbooks and change 9 hours of studying to 5/6 hours sabog na utak mo tapos gagawa kapa ng assignments and projects sa bahay. Mental health and way of studying matters to comprehend well. At nakita ko halos lhat ng kaklase ko may confidence kahit yung pinaka tamad magaral may good comprehension & reasoning. Sa government yan hindi sa bata. Dagdag nalng siguro kung ayaw talaga ng bata, tamad at walang willingness. Pero entirely sa education system/gobyerno yan we ranked 55 in the world sa educ system, and the country where i am right now ranks in top 10 to 20 for decades. And i can see the differences why. Kulang ng freedom of speech, nanakot mga teachers, sulsulan, pasipsipan, paunahan sa honors, because th edu implemented top 1 top 2, This is how we raised our society in the philippines, our mentality came from how we handle and think of ourselves plus nalng siguro ung culture that i respect, pero 2022 na, education is important and we should know how to modify things to the better.

We shouldn’t blame the educational system nor parents and students for not knowing about history or others things, remember not everyone has the capacity to learn everything and our brains has limitations too. Actually madaming mga tinuro nung elementary naalala ko dahil sa sineskwela, bayani, pahina, math tinik, epol apol etc, yung may initial knowledge na ako sa topic pero mas tumatak sa isip ko nung napanood ko sa mga educational shows. Marami kasi sa mga kabataan visual learner so pag napanood nila mas tumatatak and mas madaling alalahanin kahit matanda ka na. Minsan kasi mas magandang maintindihan ang inaaral kaysa imemorize lang.

I was a teacher myself BSEduc graduate but because of low grade salary and stressful workloads I opt from other job. I saw a decline in quality since the 90's because teacher goes abroad and lack of motivation

Nag elementary ako 2001-2006. Grade 1 pa lang tinuturo na yung mga bayani ng Pilipinas. Grade 4 ako, yung project na pinapagawa ay album or compilation ng mga bayani at kanilang talambuhay at kabayanihang nagawa. Kaya lalong tumatak ang mga bayani sa isip ko nung mga panahon na yon. Ngayon kasi puros pa damihang like at share sa social media ang mga projects ng mga estudyante. Haynako. Kaya madami ang naloloko ng mga fake news at disinformation.

Hoy ako nga nakalimutan ko na. Kahit na Valedictorian ako noong Elementary pero hindi ko talaga alam ang ibang ang sagot sa question. Tinuro naman yan, kaso makakalimutan talaga kasi hindi naman puro history yung tinuturo sa atin.

Kaming mga batang 90s sa probincia grade 2 pa lng tinuturo na yan sa amin. Hanggang sa mag high school ako kya cguro hnd ko tlga yan mkalimutan kht ilang taon na akung tumigil sa pag aaral lalo favorite subject ko dn ang history.

Hindi nman ako kgalingan at may line of 7 grades din ako noon but I still know these things. Masyado syang basic kaya nakakapagtaka 🤤

I am a social studies teacher. I believe that teachers really do their best para matuto ang mga bata lalo na sa kasaysayan. Yun nga lang, karamihan din talaga sa mga kabataan ay hindi pinapahalagahan ang itinuturo sa paaralan. Mas iniintindi pa ang facebook, tiktok, instagram etc. Kaya ang mga magulang ay may mahalagang papel din para disiplinahin ang kanilang mga anak sa pagaaral.

I don't see any other reasons aside from "lack of interest". I don't think hindi naituro yang mga yan sa kanila. Naituro yan pero nakalimutan na over time because we are so much exposed to different cultures. On that part, hindi rin ako magmamalinis dahil sobrang exposed din ako sa Western culture. However, I was able to answer all Robi's questions and might have to agree with some of the people here, saying that those are very basic Filipino history questions. You can always adapt and enjoy other cultures but still remember your roots. Nasa sa atin na yan kung paano pananatilihin sa atin ang pagka-Filipino natin. Maiadd ko lang. Ayoko sana mang-judge pero I would've accepted kung hindi na lang na sana sumagot, kesa bigyan ako ng made-up answer. MAJOJA? SRSLY? LOL

Dapat ang prinsipyo ng mga batang 'to, "I'm NOT JUST a pretty face..." para hindi isisi sa Department of Education at guro and kakulangan ng kaalaman at kawalan ng interes matuto....may it be in history, math and science, etc. Baka pwede din and in personal slogan na, "the fruit doesn't fall far from the tree"...kung ilang henerasyon na ang hindi nagbibigay halaga sa edukasyon at "hunger for knowledge and curiousity" baka kaya din lalaking mangmang (pardon my word) ang susunod na henerasyon.

Second batch ako ng K-12 Curriculum. Wala akong karanasan na may dedicated subject ang Philippine History sa High School mapa Junior High man o Senior High sa aking pinanggalingan na public school. Kaya hindi rin ako naniniwala na may PH History subject sa high school ayon sa DepEd Usec. Bagamat nagkukulang ang mga kabataan sa intellectual curiosity na sinabi no Prof. Xiao Chua, malaking impact din na may PH history subject sa high school. Ito talaga ang pinakamabisang paraan upang mahubog nang mas maaga ang kalinangan ng mga kabataan sa tungkol sa ating kasaysayan at ang kanilang nasyonalismo na rin bilang pagmamahal sa bansa natin.

Truth be told, while selectively reading the comments, isa lang ang common denominator sa comments: Lack of intellectual curiosity. Sabi nga nila, we will not be able to reach where we are today because of history. Yes, may good side and bad side and history which are rooted sa ating identity. History determines the direction and the future of a nation. However, the lack of intellectual curiosity should not be ascribed to our educational institutions but to the students and the community which directly shapes him. Sabi nga, train up a child in the way he should go. When he is old, he will not depart from it. Baka naman, this lack of intellectual curiosity has been watered down or overly romanticized dahil sa ating media which I think they should be accountable too. Nothing against the media, pero, ang issue is the content which discourages to further pursue intellectual curiosity or our willingness to learn or to raise our learning to a higher level dahil we become inferior. Instead, why not reverse the situation and strengthen our learning curve. Nang sa gayon, we do not feel left out but we are more equipped. Disclaimer: Please do not bash. This is an observation which we have to learn and recognize as we move forward from this vicious state.
