In this short video piece Bhante V discusses how the most important idea in Buddhism works.
This is what the Buddha came to teach. That everything arises due to a cause and that you can see it happen at each moment in your very own life.
Upon deep realization of this idea the meditator sees Nibbana and becomes free from the round of rebirths.
Dependent Origination is 12 links long. The most important ones are dealt with here. That is: 1.CONTACT with the sense object; 2.Experiencing a pleasant or unpleasant FEELING from that object; 3. Liking or Disliking that feeling-CRAVING-; 4. CLINGING or the thoughts about why you like or dislike it; 5. Habitual Tendencies which are what you tend to do about that type of sensation which leads to 6. Birth lamentation, grief, old age and death ETC
Through the meditation practice that Bhante Vimalaramsi teaches, he trains students to see this noble truth as the Buddha taught it.

I agree wholeheartedly with the laudatory comments. This talk is brilliant in its clarity and conciseness. Depended origination can be so baffling . . . not so much now. Praise and thanks to all dharma teachers.

Wonderful Grace of Bhante Vimalaramsi. The cause of suffering comes from like, dislike (passion/aversion)
@peacebe2u480
@peacebe2u480 3 жыл бұрын
Steven, The cause of suffering only comes FROM BEING BORN. This is what Buddha taught. If you are not being born, you will not go through the process of suffering, isnt it? It is not about Vedanna = Feeling of Likes or Dislikes or Neutral. . Our goal is to make good that this would be the last birth... aha! Which is an impossibility, but we strive towards that goal. There are 3 actors in the circle of Samsara, the endless circle of birth old age n death over n over... they are: Moha = lack of knowledge, Lobha = Greed and Dosa = Anger. These 3 makes up into one giant umbrella called: Avijja (in Pali) or what we can call Delusion, Ignorance or perhaps Agnostic (?) There is only one Provocateur the trouble maker, that is FEELING of Sensation Dislikes or Likes or Neutral. This Sensation Feeling of the false present of ego the *I* like this or that, or dont like this n that, gives rise to Tanha, the Desire of Wanting more or Averting Dislikes more.. From the Feeling to Desiring Craving to Clinging Addiction is the reason the practitioners of meditation go through this process.. using the method of Insight Meditation to understand the arising - staying - disappearing of every phenomena that we encounter. Be a Watcher! Do not Participate. ... LOL.

The chain of causation (dependent origination): Because of ignorance, there is the formation of images, simultaneously with the belief that the mental representation is that which is represented. This gives rise to the image of myself, the "separate self", the ego, the "I" thought. Names and forms are then taken by the "I" thought as the ultimate reality. Thus, through the senses, there is contact between the ego and what it considers to be the basic reality. This causes feelings and concepts, which generate the desire for repetition and other desires. The desire for more brings about becoming. Becoming is the movement of one image pursuing another image. Becoming gives continuity to the ego, which clings to its fictitious existence, and is the cause of births, with their entourage of suffering. When there is a real understanding that ideas, concepts, images, representations, mental constructions, names and forms are not the thing in itself, ignorance ceases. With the cessation of ignorance, the continuity of the fictitious entity, of the simulacrum of being, ceases. Since the image is not the being or thing it represents, who or what am I?

Good one! When you realize there is NO Self that is existing and moving forward through life after life time just stops - No self , no being was ever there! The dream has been seen and let go.

there is light and there is darkness. In a completely dark world, you would not have the ability to know that it is dark. If you deprive all of your senses and ability to think you will have nothing. But nothing (aka, absolute) still has to be "something" because of nothingness you will still have the ability to get something. The very moment you THINK. you immediately have something. This is called Causality.

What is an origination, and what is it dependent on? I didn't hear what these are, or how they are related. Please clarify. thanks.
@davidjohnson8218
@davidjohnson8218 2 жыл бұрын
Dependent Origination is about how our mind operates. The idea is that everything is dependent on something else. For example if you see a carton of ice cream and its a hot day you will have a pleasant feeling arise, you will want it and want to eat some of it. So you became conscious of seeing ice cream, you perceived what it was and you felt a pleasant feeling. Craving arose dependent on the feeling arising and you started to think about it and finally you got it and ate it. Birth of Action. Everything you do is dependent on something before it.

Words and meanings just as external objects are empty yet arise together. So therefore one should think correctly first of all. See for yourself, which one comes first the word and meaning of say apple or the fruit itself? Would you say it was the fruit before the concept? Where you there?

Find silent Vipassana much more with it than noting forms of Vipassana. The problem is with thought you can get self under self with thought - nested dependent origination i.e fix it self delusion fixing self delusion. So to finite the infinite from a knowing mind seems quite futile.

DO leads to the conclusion that you do not exist and therefore there is nobody to take the path. Nobody exists so if you jump off a building there is no problem. Nobody exists to have merit and nothing has any meaning. There is no need to breathe. It is a violently idiotic philosophy and anti-life. The error in the logic is qutie simply, DO is the analysis of the state of the common fool. But the state of the Buddha is different. Buddha has created something inside himself through his meditation and now he is not empty. The path fills an empty person with light and truth and creates a new internal structure which is not-empty. It is strange that people who follow a path to get from A to B, only analyse A. What is the point of analysing A, you are already A, you are already zero. You should analyse B and how to get to B.

No- this is not correct. The five aggregates which make up "you" exist. However the underlying concept of a self that is there is only an illusion. It is the craving that one eliminates by taking the path. When craving is eliminated anger and lust, which have as it's basis "I exist", is eliminated. The idea of a a self is only in your thoughts. When you see it is all only a process this idea disappears - your body and mind don't disappear. It is just your understanding that changes is all. Then you talk about the Buddha created something that was not there. This is a strange idea. DO is only observing that the car you drive doesn't have any inherent self. The car still runs and moves around. When DO is realized it is an amazing sense of relief and joy. Don't knock it until you have actually see for yourself this truth- because you can.
