Kohima , July 5,: The #Oath of #affirmation to the newly elected members of Kohima Municipal council (KMC) was held at Capital Convention Centre (CCC) in Kohima today.
Deputy commissioner Kohima Kumar #Ramnikant IAS administered the Oath of Affirmation to the 19 newly elected members of the KMC.
Ramnikant congratulated the newly elected members/councillors and wished them all the best in their endeavors.
He said we are Witnessing phenomenal change in the urban sector stating that we are witnessing Historic occasions.
Minister for Women resource development and horticulture #Salhoutunuo Kruse in her speech mentioned that today is a historic day as it is with much hurdle our state government is able pass the Municipal Act and has successfully conducted the ULB Elections in the state after two decades under the able leadership of Chief Minister Neiphiu Rio with 33 percent Reservation for Women.
She said that KMC is in its nascent and transitional stage and as Councilors of Kohima Municipal Council; she said they now have a great responsibility ahead of them . “As mandated by the citizens of 19 wards you represent the people in the municipality with other councilors in the best interest of the community. As councilors you are expected to be the bridge between the community and the council.” She added.
She said as Councilors they are expected to observe and follow basic and general principles and to work with integrity and vision. A vision for yo6u ward and a vision for Kohima. And a vision to set Kohima as a model municipal Council.
As councilors they are the representative decision makers of their ward, provide services and facilities in a fair and sustainable way and also plan at the local level for the development and future needs of the area.
“Today as you take the oath of Affirmation to the newly elected members of the Kohima municipal council, I assure you that the government shall also extend all possible assistance to develop and uplift our people and municipality.”
She Concluded her speech by quoting Allanah Hunt who said , "It is only when you take responsibility that you discover how powerful you truly are”.
Lanusenla Longkumer ,NCS administrator,bKohima Municipal council chaired the program. The program was blessed with invocation by Kedo Peseyie, pastor of City church. Dr. Riku Khutso NCS EAC and assistant returning officer KMC pronounced the vote of thanks.
