Never take a loan out on a toy!! Unless you know damn well you can turn it for profit 😉 Buying new is the worst investment!! Minute you drive off the lot you lost money 💰💸 When you save and pay cash $$ you will enjoy that toy way more than your neighbors driving on debt. Believe me I love toys! And I have a bunch. But I paid my house off first and then got into toys. That way if I get hurt 🤕 playing I don't have to worry about my family being left with debt!!

Finally someone giving good advice. So sick of people thinking the endless buying spree, at any price, is going to go on forever. Remember when everyone bought a custom Harley and two houses back in the 2000s? Remember what happened next? Those that forget the past are condemned to relive it.

No question the market is changing - higher prices, higher interest rates makes it less affordable to more folks. The used market is in for a major correction - as people are forced to sell or simply give back to the dealer and the dealers start discounting to simply move units off the floor - it will be a lot easier to buy from a dealer than a third party. Most UTV's are financed - so if you have a nice machine with lots of mods, you are not going to get you money out of it - so if you want to sell or more important if you "need" to sell - do it ASAP - as the market is going to continue to move away from the sellers market of the past few years to a buyers market. Cash will be king - and if you have it you will be able to buy super nice, upgraded, lightly used units in the coming months for a bargain.

I was at our localKawasaki dealer the other day. They had 8 KRX two seaters sitting on the floor. They definitely aren’t moving like they used to. They also had dozens of high dollar KTM, GAS GAS and Husky dirt bikes sitting there unsold. Six months ago if they had bikes in that shop they all had sold tags on them. Two of those were sold.

Deals have been out there. Last December I bought a 2021 RMax new for $500 under MSRP. I was looking at a Talon R Live Valve that was $3500 above MSRP. I guess my point here is it pays to look around, be willing to travel etc. I was pretty set on one or the other and in the end, the Rmax was about $6k less. On top of that, I got more on trade in for my old unit than I had paid for it by about $1500.

I totally agree with you on a lot of what you said and I can tell you based on my job and what I'm seeing is the used market is coming down some and I expect it to come down a lot more over the next 6 months or so. Dealerships now with a sudden influx of Polaris RZRs that they're selling at discounts thousands of dollars off because they have so much inventory whereas 6 months ago they were selling them for over MSRP. All the people who bought used or new and paid markups are going to be losing their shirt in the next 6 months to year if they're looking to sell or upgrade or they total their machine!

2008 was the housing crisis. 2023 is going to be the credit crisis. Was personally saying this back in summer 2020. I think ALOT of people are going to be looking at the payments they have on stuff and be dumping them. I cannot believe that people take out 7+ year loans on toys such as UTVs, boats, campers, etc. It's completely insane that people are doing this, even crazier that banks are able to actually let loans go that long on these assets. Not to mention the income verification at dealers is almost nonexistent.

Saving up down payment now while I also customize and pay down the bike . Cost to keep up on the hobby is quickly becoming a strain as well. I think some have taken into consideration that after the investment of 25k into a machine, 50k in a toy hauler, 75k in a 1 ton to tow it... Adds up quick.. Now factor in the 1k min. you'll spend in fuel/food/camping spot etc... You quickly come to realize that time and money might be better spent elsewhere...

I've always had multiple interests so for me it wasn't too hard to sell and make a ton of cash knowing damn well I'd end up completing the circle and going right back to it with a new machine, new build, etc etc... Now the key for me and what my old man always taught me was "Always own your toys outright, their is nothing worse than having a payment sit in your garage broken". The way we play so hard it really does make sense and although it took me 3+ years to buy/sell/trade/flip my way up to what I wanted it was even that much more gratifying when I got those stacks in 2021. :)

The biggest original reason for a utv purchase was the affordability compared to a jeep. That is not the way it is anymore. The options available have shifted the market especially in the high performance machines. The high performance prices will stay high but the price of the utility machines have to come down or the manufacturers have to figure out how to survive with a smaller customer base.

This year I tried a CanAm X3 RR and just listed it to see if it would sell quickly like years past. Nope, I’m only $500 more than I have in it and no offers, hardly any interest either. I’m happy with this X3 so I’m fine keeping it long term. But, we will see a big correction for the used market, not much correction for new as costs are staying high to produce them.

I wonder how many people bought utvs just because they wanted to buy something? Situations such as a pandemic are very depressing and I believe a lot of people were looking for anything to make them feel better. A new "toy" is a way to do that. But the novelty of those situations fades. There are buyers such as me and thousands of others who genuinely love trail riding. I know a guy who bought a decked out Rmax over a year ago and has a whopping 50 miles on it. I logged 100 miles my first trail ride. I would wager his ride will be up for sale in less than a year.

I’m in Saint George now. The last time I was here was early December 2021. It feels like the population doubled. Maybe it’s just the time of year, I don’t know, but you could definitely use some slowing down with growth. I bought my RMAX4 in April. I think I got 7% for 60 months. Now Yamaha is offering 2.9% for 60 months, but the same machine has gone up $3700.

I've been watching Kawasaki Mule prices recently. I did not write them down, but - if I remember correctly - the prices of, for example, Mule MX jumped by about 2,000. $ or more. Before that, power steering was standard, and now you have to pay extra for a special version. Other models also became more expensive. I don't understand this - the availability / supply is supposed to increase and prices go up faster than energy. Maybe it's a speculative market?

I started inquiring about the new Pro R this week, and I can tell you some dealers are still living in fantasy land while others are now trying to move the machine at MSRP + fees. However, I don't see the hunger yet. Give them more time; this will change as the inventory sits. The Fed will announce the next round of interest rate increases on December 15th. If CPI is hot on the 14th, we could see a .75 basis point increase. It's a ticking timebomb, and some of these dealers deserve what's coming.

I definitely believe there’s going to be a crash. Many people will be doing anything to get rid of their vehicles that they never really wanted. I am currently selling a used Artic Wildcat. I know it’s a good idea for me to get rid of it soon before the market is flooded. I would rather take a little less now then I have two side-by-side‘s sitting in my driveway. For somebody getting into the sport I would highly suggest buying a used one in good condition. This way if it doesn’t work out well for you you made a small investment and you can probably get most of your money back. This is where most people make the biggest mistake. Buy everything new and put it on endless payments. When the economy takes a dump the first thing that goes is toys

I totally get why you would decide to sell…but when there is blood in the water, the sharks will want to feed. As I was adding mods to my buggy, there came a time when I had to consider if it was work making the modification; knowing that I had already invest to much into a vehicle. I knew the. That I had already invested too much into my buggy, and there was no way I would get even a fraction…of my total investment…back out. For me I had to have a very honest conversation (when nobody was watching) about the reasons I was adding the modifications. There were basically 2 reasons for every modification. The first reason dated back to my old Harley days, and there was, and is, a deep desire to individualize “my” buggy. I wanted certain modifications done because nobody else had them…or very few people had them. As I look back, they all served a real purpose, but they also made my buggy standout. The second reason revolved around the idea that I’m a partial paraplegic, and most of the time I’m raging in the desert…I’m alone. I approached this “honest” assessment of myself not because I see myself as a victim…I don’t…but I recognize and acknowledge the dangers and challenges I could face alone. So, as an example, I always have multiple sources of communication in my buggy; Cell phone; citizen band radio; hand held aviation radio; and a permanently mounted aviation radio, which is to be mounted in the future. The last two radios allow me to talk to pilots at 15,000 feet…on Tucson Approach, should the worst happen. I recognize that everyone does not need the same number of communication options…my lifestyle…my options. All of that crap has led me to respond to your comment about deciding to sell your UTV. I have already made a conscious decision that if I decided to sell…I would accept a fair price, but I will “never” give away my buggy; allowing someone else to reap the benefits of my efforts and or decisions. In fact, I would take nothing, and have my buggy crushed before I would agree a lopsided sale. Moreover, I’m more likely to give it away, and rob a dealership of a potential sale, before I was financially raped while trading my buggy. So, I understand your decisions; we are just approaching that question from different sides. Your thoughts…

All markets are seeing correction. Used recreational toys especially. Used boats that were selling for $20k more than they were worth last summer are back up for sale now at near normal prices. Ouch! As far as “when’s the best time to buy?” , that answer is right now. Why? Because MSRP goes up every year, and lately we’ve seen msrp go up multiple times a year. You can wait for interest rates to drop, but that MSRP will be 5-7% higher.

The SXS marketplace is going back to the norm (pre-covid), new and used prices are dropping and sometime soon discounting will be the norm again. Interest rates will peak by the first half of next year, so don't get too freaked out about that. I pay cash for my SXS's, I sold my 2021 Pro XP 4 Ultimate last spring for 42K and turned around and purchased my new 2022 Turbo R 4 Ultimate for 38.8K . As most of you know, the Turbo R has a ton of upgrades over the Pro XP. I only did this because of the inflated values of used equipment over the last year or two. In a normal market, I would have sold my Pro XP for 10K less and bought my Turbo R for 3K less. The US dollar is going to start to fall which will be great for stock prices and we will move towards a more balanced economy. New vehicle inventory will start to build and this craziness will stop for the most part. The next sales person who says taking orders for new vehicles and waiting 6 months is the new norm (and paying full MSRP or more), needs to be hung from the highest tree. That type of sales cycle will be history, and only discussed as part of history -- a thing of the past!

I just started looking at side by side’s because I like off roading and feel it would be a fun hobby. After going to a few dealerships I am amazed at the prices. The profit margins have to be huge. I have noticed that there are alot of 2021 and 2022 models on the lots when the 2024’s are starting to show up. Just like in the car market, these dealerships are going to have to start lowering prices. In my personal opinion it’s better to wait with this purchase. I feel if I buy one now then I would be taking a loss a year from now. I definitely wouldn’t finance one with a 7-8% interest rate

Tomorrow I'm loading up the truck camper with the quad and will head out for a few days of camping and riding. So easy. And if my quad sits I don't feel guilty. My other ride is a Honda 300 Rally. Nothing special. Cheap. I ride that all the time. My truck is new....but a base model F350 4x4 with a few up grades. I'm a travel nurse and single so I make decent money and could certainly afford higher end stuff but I prefer to have "money in the bank" and the ability to take time off and not have a bunch of darn payments. SxS are cool but are they really worth the money for how much they get used? That of course is up to the individual. Some people use them all the time so for them I say spend the money.
