Today we tour the birthplace of the industrial revolution in Great Britain, the city of Derby, located in the very heart of England.
In addition to its industrial past, Derby is full of attractive places to visit. Join us as we tour its main attractions, you will surely find fascinating history in its interesting museums, which are a must-see in the city.
We begin our tour with a visit to East Midlands Airpark, a captivating open-air museum that displays perfectly preserved aircraft of yesteryear, just inches away. A place, without a doubt, very special to have a good time.
Entering the city, our first destination could not be other than the place where the first factory in the world was located. The Manufacturing Museum tells 300 years of Derby's manufacturing history, with 30,000 objects for the public to enjoy.
Passing the beautiful Derby Cathedral, which towers over the city and has the second tallest Perpendicular church tower in England, we arrive at Pickford's House Museum, the family home of the Enlightenment architect Joseph Pickford, which illustrates aspects of the Domestic life from the 18th to the 20th centuries, showing the contrast between master and servant and the grandeur of Georgian architecture, decorated as it would have been 250 years ago. The fascinating collection of toy theater models is totally magical.
Following the captivating world of miniatures, we reached the relaxing Markeaton park, a place with many entertainment options, which includes an unexpected attraction that was our surprise of the day, the Famous Trains railway model, at 00 scale, which surely , just like we will love it. Don't miss the centerpiece of the attraction, which is an 18-meter or 60-foot reconstruction of the four-track mainline railway at Chinley on High Peak. Representing what was once a key junction on the main line from Derby to Manchester Central, 20 model trains run along its layout. It was very exciting to see the Harry Potter-themed railway, designed by one of the volunteers, among so many special moments in this seductive place.
