Despite their biggest away win in the Premier League, the Royals were still relegated in the aftermath of this match following Fulham's victory at Portsmouth.

I remember being there. That was one of the most gut wrenching games I've ever watched once Fulham scored.

I remember this, the day we went down. It wasnt the fact that Fulham saved themselves, we threw it away with a string of poor performances leading up to this game, including losing 0-2 at home to Fulham, when we were truly awful. The weirdest thing is, on this day we scored 4 goals away from home for the 3rd time that season and it still somehow ended badly lol.

They do. Reading are a well run club, good support, and have a good fighting spirit (Etc, 3-2 win vs WBA and 2-1 win vs Newcastle). They will stay up this season. - Stoke fan.

think the derby fans are any less sad?? they coudnt even have there team restore some pride on the last day against fellow strugglers and only got 11 points. both sets of fans were probably in tears

Should've kept McDermott rather than changing managers during the season. Stoke have done the right thing to sack Pulis post season rather than during our relegation battle. We now have a pre-season to look forward to and to see new signings come in, Reading will have to do that in the Championship due to their mistake.

Derby were promoted far too early without preparing properly so they lost every week

Reading 07 08 relegated but at least that team showed some passion, fight and desire despite going down. Derby 07 08 relegated and that team showed no fight no desire and went down in utterly embarrassing fashion. Being a derby county fan unfortunately I had to sit through that season of utter dross

to be fair everyone knew that Reading were going to win here because Derby that season were the nadir of useless but the Royal's lost it before this game they had 2 bad runs the first saw them lose a club record 8 games in a row from Late December to February and then they had another period where they went 6 games with scoring a goal losing 4 and that combined with Fulham finding form under Roy Hodgson saw the Royals pay the ultimate price

I think the difference was reading managed to win 3 out the next 4 games after the had that 8 match losing run. But the 6 games without a goal really was the killer for reading. I did want reading to stay up and they went down in the cruellest way.

@@antcunningham1997 Yeah they did they beat Boro after James Harper struck in stoppage time, beat City 2-0 and beat relegation rivals Birmingham 2-1 the only defeat they had in that run you mentioned was Liverpool despite taking the lead when Matějovský scored an absolute screamer. But then only 2 points from the next 6 against Wigan and against Blackburn when the aforementioned Matejovsky was sent off. The key results in that 6 game winless run was the 2-0 home defeat to Fulham their first win since before the war figuratively speaking because it was 33 matches since Fulham won away from home and the 1-0 defeat to Tottenham on the final Saturday of the season which combined with Fulham following up that famous comeback at City beat Birmingham 2-0 condemned Reading to the drop zone in which they stayed in those results were key as there was 3 goals in it in the end. `

@@classicsportclassictiyl8547 and as for derby county though. I mean yeah they at the time there team weren't ready premier league and it showed. But they way that team threw the towel in very early i think it was like they knew from November they were gonna be in the championship cause they knew they weren't good enough
