honestly, we agreed for a long time that Jeter was an all time great, a modern legend, someone who just had "the stuff"...its just that we were so belligerently competitive (especially before 04) that we could never have admitted it until that last AB. as much of a Boston fan as i am, i will always remember Jeter's incredible athleticism and leadership, and the modern Game wouldn't have been the same without #2.

I'm 64 years old and I've been a Red Sox fan for as long as I can remember. Red Sox vs Yankees is a rite of passage, and over the years the Yankees have by far gotten the best of the Sox. This grates on us Sox fans and we've come to earn a very healthy dislike of them....but every now and then a Yankee player stands above the rest and he elevates himself above the fray. Derek Jeter is one of those players. He played with skill, determination, distinction, and class. I will always admire him for that.

+Jesus Draven >> I'm a Red Sox fan, and I get goosebumps every time I watch and revisit this moment... Everybody at Fenway was chanting his name! Even when Jeter got his final home hit, I mean, could he have scripted it any better? I see DJ as a shoo-in first-ballot Hall of Famer, very likely with one of the highest percentages ever! He lived out his dream to the full, of playing shortstop in pinstripes! Number 2 was such a pleasure to watch!

+Victor M. Ferreira couldn't have said it any better. It was such an emotional but awesome way to leave the game. Like I said before the Boston fans are just a class act. It was just a pleasure and honor for me to watch this man play the game of baseball for all those years as a kid. I'm with you I know he's a first ballot hall of famer. #2 was always clutch for us in the playoffs. By the way i want to wish your Red Sox the best of luck when the season begin. Your ball club looks like s playoff contender already with all those new players on the team. But I'm still rooting for my Yankees to be on top lol

+Jesus Draven >> Still, the Sox looked really good on paper last season but underachieved big time... and yes, it's only natural to pull for one's favorite team, and you do well to pull for the Bronx Bombers. I find it great to be able to appreciate the sport and great achievements on the field of play, regardless of fans' allegiances. Sure, we love it when our teams win, but it doesn't take away from enjoying the game and seeing mutual respect, as epitomized by Jeter, whose shoes at shortstop I don't think anyone can adequately fill at this time. He was a fixture at the position, and I dare say the league misses seeing him ply his trade... [Actually, my first love, in baseball terms, was the Montreal Expos (I lived a 4-minute drive from Olympic Stadium), but I kind of gravitated toward the BoSox around 1980, in the days of Rice and Lynn and Yaz]
@dravenbbs66
@dravenbbs66 8 жыл бұрын
+Victor M. Ferreira Your completely right, the Red Sox did underachieved last year. They put a lot money into Hanley Ramirez and Pablo Sandoval which didn't turn out to be great signings. But you do got some young stars like Mookie Betts and Bogarts that were great to watch play. It's going to be a crazy year in the AL east. And expos man back in the early 90's they had some amazing stars on there ball club. Everyone remembers the 1994 season when the strike ruined the season. The Expos had an amazing start to that season who knows they could've won the World Series.

I don't think Jeter was the best, but I think he was one of the classiest men to ever wear any uniform in any sport. He represented the game of Baseball as well as anyone could have ever asked him to. It was amazing to see the Fenway faithful respect him the way they did.

I've been a Yankee Fan since I was 5 years old, and Jeter is my all time favorite player, in the 57 years since I've been watching the Yankees play. I had the honor of meeting and shaking hands with him halfway through the 1998 season, and he was very pleasant and kind, and we all know that was a banner year for the Yankees. I saw his last game at the Stadium on my Birthday so it will be a memory I will always cherish, and yes I cried! :) LOL

Their is and will ALWAYS be a rivalry between the Red Sox and Yankees, sometimes nasty. But Red Sox fans are Baseball purists and will acknowledge greatness. Just like Yankees fans, who cheered for Big Papi at his last Yankee Stadium game. Most Red Sox fans repected and liked Jeter. They might not admit it but they did. I also know alot of Red Sox fans respected Rivera too.

I'm a Dogers fan and have always hated (but respected) the Yankees. To me Derek Jeter is like Sandy Koufax. It didn't matter if you were a Dodgers fan or not, you liked Koufax and its the same with Jeter. It didn't matter if you hated the Yankees, but the way Jeter played and carried himself, you can't help but like the guy. He's a class act on and off the field.
