To summarize: (microneedling for hair loss) -Microneedling gives stimulation and blood flow to the scalp which promotes hair growth (regenaration) and produce collagen -Ideal microneedle tip: 1mm or 1.5mm -How many times should you do it?: Not more than 2-3 times a week (1x a week is enough) -Don't overdo it and don't do it more than an hour, just a few minutes -It has to heal and healing takes about 1-2 days -It is not primary one of the options for hair loss, but just an ad-on (Minoxidil and Finasteride is still) -Use only in areas where there are hair miniaturization, if the area is completely bald, forget it, it won't work.

AlexanderNino it should work on every area of the body. The international experts all agree that the procedure stimulates any size of hair follicles. No, it will not darken your hair. This procedure doesn’t affect hair color. Sorry.

@@IUtrumpetboy I used DHT blocker (not FDA approved) and minoxidil for 2 months, but fear the potential side effects, so I stopped them all about more than half a year ago. Supplements, yes, I need to increase intake of vitamin A、B2、B6、D and zinc according to my doctor's advice, because my body is short of these things. Microneedling and scalp massages to clear out fibrosis and calcification (may be the true reason for hair loss, not DHT, but DHT do play a role in this cycle. When you've been microneedling for months and start to see results, you may also feel your scalp becoming elastic, while many people using finasteride for months, and finally finasteride stopped working) and ensure proper nutrition and blood flow for your hair follicle, live healthy life and stay away from any kind of chronic inflammation, FOLLICLES WON'T DIE, remember this, have patience and stay optimistic, you will have your hair back.

Hawx Won I’m about to start microneedling again with a dermapen. Glad to hear you’ve had so much success! So, you put your results down to: microneedling, massage (both breaking fibrosis and increasing circulation) as well as nutrition and avoiding inflammation. Is that correct?

Beggars and rickshaw pullers are very different.... totally different in what amount of work they do what they eat 2. There's no way to quantify a beggar do a lot of Hardwork to ensure blood circulation....so are the people as fitness lifestyle is booming....so Calling beggars have added advantage just because they tend to roam on streets (even though not all beggars are fully fit or enabled) is right out foolish and dumb. 3. And if you wanna compare a diet of a beggar with middle class, beggars even survive on little rice(just carbs ) where's the vitamins, minerals , proteins now....point is a healthy diet is important....but just a diet is not root cause or sufficient solution for hair loss 4. Whatever is working for is good enough.... but not the only thing necessary....if diet is sufficient to cure there would be research on that too 5. Sure pumpkin seeds might have worked for you in the long run.....but first ensure you have androgenic alopecia , second which stage of norwood scale you're on, your age and then tell people how it curred your hairfall and make you look like a baby with full head of lucious hairs.....that would definitely help. 6. Secondly, I’ve a suggestion for a video, where u talk about combining various treatments (stimulation & blockers) by degree of hair loss. That is, if ur hair loss is this much, then do this and this, if ur hair loss is this, then do this, this and this etc. You don’t have to go into the depth of any of those treatments since you have in-depth video on each, which u can link in the description. All in all, great channel. Keep it up 👍

Thanks for the informative video guys. There may be a difference between derma-rolling and microneedling with a mechanical pen. The former may have further potential to damage the hair than the latter, as you are rolling and possible tearing the skin slightly. The latter performs an automated puncturing motion which does less unnecessary damage to the scalp.

I saw a study that said 0.6mm was optimal for penetration. Now, depending on how much hair you have, your needle length needs to vary to account for the extra padding due to the hair layer. For a bald guy, 0.6mm, for someone with more hair, maybe 1.0mm is needed

What are your thoughts on dermarolling vs a microneedling device? The logic being that the rolling motion creates a long triangular "slit" in your scalp as it's moving longitudinally as well as vertically, whereas a derma pen type of device goes straight in straight out making a "shaft" wound instead. Maybe more wounding = more growth factors? But you have to be careful about scarring and too much damage like you said

I can't say dermarolling has done much for my hairline, I'd attribute any of the hair progress to minoxidil once a day. But it has without question reversed the aging of the skin on my face. I dermaroll once a week on Sundays using a 1.5mm roller. Any wrinkles, blemishes, sun spots that I had on my skin are pretty much gone. The results for me were not immediate. I've been using it for around 12 months, and started to see big changes around 4 months.

There are people who say Dermarolling isn't good because the hairs grown in patchy areas are only vellus hairs. But cosmetically the difference is major and is the difference between a patchy and shiny head in pictures v.s what could look like a full head of hair. There is a whole industry of tattooing the scalp [micropigmenting] for that very reason. Dermarolling is great.

Hi Drs. Jayaprakash & Knudsen, first off you both are awesome. I hope you are rolling in clients. My Q: I derma-roll 1x a week with a sterilized 1.5mm roller post-shower. While I'm on minoxidil, I pause my application for 12 hours after the roll to avoid the possibility of infection. I've heard 24hrs is the shortest I should apply but is 12 enough? My main motivation is convenience, as I usually apply minoxidil after showers (and roll on the weekend for added time and convenience). (in case it helps I'm on Norwood scale 3-4, low hairline reduction, but thinning crown and derma roll my crown and hairline for good measure, probably 15 minutes each setting)

Appreciate your honesty. I do agree people with female/male PHL have thin skin on their scalp so I think starting with 0.5mm depth would be smarter based off all the other videos I have watched. I am curious if you would address the different in the Dermarollers vs. micro needling for longer hair and also the difference the way the needles penetrate: 45 degree rotation creating larger wedge type incision vs. 90 degree straight insertion. If you could address this that would be helpful. With Covid more people are looking for treatments that can be done from home and are more reasonable than going to a clinic to get treatments. Thanks.

1.5mm needle length once every 3 weeks. Press each spot 1-2x. You want to stop once you see erythema. There is no need to bleed. It takes a couple minutes for the erythema to begin so don’t worry if you don’t see it right away. I went over my scalp once time and it turned red after 3-5min. I see some people staring each spot 5+ times. There is no need. Also risking scarring by doing that. The reason for doing it every 3 weeks is that you want to give it time to heal. That’s where the benifts come. According to literature, tissue repair peaks at the 2 week mark and can last anywhere up to 6 weeks. But for a depth of 1.5mm, I don’t see a reason to wait 6 weeks.

Pen is considered better from the standpoint of fewer and more focused wounds, but I think rollers are just as good. You may want to invest in a pen if you also intend to puncture your face for anti-aging purposes (as a lot of women for example tend to do), since you can modify easily the needle length. No topicals are recommended for the scalp after rolling. However, I continue my regular minoxidil routine 12h after the dermarolling session.

I suggest 1.5mm roller or pen every week, with horizontal, diagonal and perpendicular movements all over the scalp. I used a 1.5mm a couple times 6-8 weeks apart and see some baby hair sprouting on the border of my hairline, but not much further down to the perfect no recession line. Also, do you know the optimal frequency of use? I know studies do 10-14 days. I've heard 4-8 weeks is what clinics do.
