I watched your show on Channel 4 tonight and it really hit home. I lost my Mum to Covid and all the things you spoke about, not being able to with her, not being able to give her a proper send off truly resonated with me. The ending was just so lovely and poignant it made me cry which is something I don't do easily. Wonderful that you're able to that for your Dad. 🎉

Fantastic show. I was pulled up on stage in Nottingham for the Father Son, balloon, teddy part of the show. It truly was an unforgettable experience. We also got to meet him after the show back stage which was a dream come true for me as I’ve been watching him for over twenty years and read several of his books. So just wanted to say, Thank you, Derren. PS - The ending of this show is my favourite of all of your shows. So poignant.

you were? i was thinking that part with the father and son was a stooge mainly because i didn't see how the reveal with the rosette on the teddy bear at the end would work otherwise and because derren asked for the youngest and the youngest in the recorded show was 12 when you had to be 13 to watch which when i thought about it was convenient because if i would do it i would have a stooge that was 12 so with all the regular's being at least 13 i could control the outcome that way.

@@bakura23 at our show he originally picked another kid but then reverted back to us because the other kid put on a stupid voice! What shocked me after watching the show was that the Teddy’s name was different and so were all the things the Father wrote down. I originally thought he’d just put those thoughts in to our heads and would do the same every show! We’ve still got the bear (obviously) and Derren kindly signed the back of the badge so we’ve kept that separately!

@bakura23 I've seen a few people comment online that Derren must use stooges. This is an example of what's called the Dunning Kruger effect - basically, people are confident in what they think about something, because they don't understand how much they don't understand about the subject. In this specific case, they lack the knowledge of the techniques that can be used to do what Derren does without the need for any stooges.

There is a simple ish way this trick is done. There are a lot of delays and a lot of distractions. Things like going over to pick up the sweets which were passed to him from off stage, very easy for him to quickly stick on a rosette which was printed back stage. You don't think about it because why would you nothing to do with the bear at that point. As for what's on the list there is a delay. The father did have the envelope taken away for a bit, it's even just as simple as someone saw what he wrote. There was plenty of time to print all this stuff to the rosette back stage. There is enough distraction and lighting, and not knowing what you're supposed to be looking at that you miss things. (I was at his show in Bradford, there were a few things he repeated, things like saying I don't normally bring someone back on stage, well he did the same thing when I saw him, a friend who saw him elsewhere said he did the same, that proves he needed that person to complete the final trick, they were an instant stooge in that they were hypnotised enough to do what was needed).

I have loved Derren Browns work since the first days of "trick of the mind." Such a brilliant man, and he has made my life so much better with his skills... the power of the mind is amazing and this man has shown me so much untapped potential within myself. Easiest example i can give you, his book chapter on memory has made my brain 10 times more effecient at remembering lists or numbers. Another example is his book on Happiness has enhanced my mental fortitude to uncomfortable situations. Honestly, this man and Duncan Trussell are my best role models in life. I love these guys...

I think I know how part of it was done and it relied on the man with the cap in the audience not reading the bank note numbers before he surrendered it. That was absolutely key. For the note was switched with a note they already had, one which had as few different numbers as possible (they had £5, £10, £20 and £50 notes at the ready). The woman on stage had been briefed while under hypnosis beforehand that: "The £5 note numbers are 0, 2, 6." Same with the other denominations. That's why she didn't read out the entire number consecutively. She was blindfolded before being handed the board, which already had the numbers on them (different board for different denominations). The pen she was handed did not write. There was no way she wrote those numbers in the time available or in that haphazard way. The die trick probably involved a magnetic strip and the magnet was switched on before the sixth roll of it - hence Derren asking for a "dramatic pause". The man with his son wrote three things about him and put it in an envelope (note how things always go in envelopes or bags). This was secretly opened and read by a backstager who created the rosette which was surreptitiously pinned to the teddy bear.

Hello Derren and fans - I lost my dad when I was 26 in 1977. We never appeared to be close but we loved each other as we made comments like you mentioned "Don't lean back on the chair'. He left my life, but he has never left my heart, and watching you last night I had a 'bit of dirt in my eye', even more so for the young man who lost his nan, I lost mine when I was 12. i had one close friend who died of Covid-19 but it was pretty quick and I never knew until after he had gone as he lived over a hundred miles away. What I will say, not wishing to upset anybody, is that I would have definitely gone to see my friend no matter what the rules stated. Who was going to stop me, or thousands like me? Nurses and doctors were far too busy and they don't have many security guards wandering about the place. The police wouldn't bother to attend but even if they did, what can they arrest you for when there were thousands over parks and at beaches and beauty spots? The only person who is 'in danger' of being infected is yourself, and my friend never had Covid when he went in for what I thought was a simple exploratory operation. Anyway, back to performance, I dabble a bit for my grandchildren with cards and numbers, strictly an amateur. I have vague ideas of how you do some of them, but in reality, I don't want to know. That would spoil future shows for me. Suffice it to say that you are the ultimate showman and fully deserve all the accolades you get.

I have seen the show before. I went for one of his shows live (once) and it turned out to be CATS, I was a week early. I deliberately went to two live shows. The script seems the same. Once I went in one city and then went to another. Then it was on TV I thought somewhere else and the interactions were identical and seemed word perfect. How do I know if the TV version was the one I witnessed? I accept I have, er, navigation problems of time, space, memory and awareness. If Derren is doing 350 shows my explanation for those that were identical, er, accepting they were not the same one of two or three then more people should go to more shows in the same series to see if the audience all react in the same way. Then the only magic I could suggest is that not only are the audience following the same responses but Derren is receiving the same scripting. I dunno. I'm 67 now and life is what it is. Obviously I have written emails and tweets about this problem, 3 a day of each since 2009. The good news is that in 2015 my last psychiatrist burst in on the newest one he said to the guy, " is he still aware". 20,000 emails, some websites and tweets (as beachhutman) have had the hospital say time to stop, you have done enough. Yet my tweets are now worth "millions" according to a USA Major whom a Captain has said is now compromised. Between Derren Brown, not keeping a diary or a calendar or making systematic recordings, I am left to my own devices. But, hey, I get a PIP at the near maximum rate and can cock a snoot at anyone from the safety of my own home where as a lone nut researcher I am gathering other peoples tweets to augment my own. I have never been so productive and deserving of my beachhutman tweets going viral. Tim Baber Also I have made some scoops as I have library and journalistic training, but it is a bit of a fugue to escape the gaps in what is a mobius strip of evidence which is against the odds. It is helpful that Derren is a good stage manager so that any deviousness is not too apparent. Heh?

Did anyone else watching this at home not see the card in the box trick happen??? I was really freaked out. It says it can't effect you at home but it did because I didn't see it happen along with the audience..when he showed the footage at the end I was shocked. I just heard his voice echo and then it showed the audience hypnotised and then the lights went red and that's all I saw???? I'm so confused

Don't worry, no-one watching the TV recording saw that trick happen. You saw exactly the same as everyone else. Indeed, anyone who went to any of the live performances did not see that card trick happen either. The footage shown at the end of the show did take place on stage, but no-one in the audience actually saw it happen. I don't really want to say anymore because it would turn into a horrible spoiler. You were not hypnotised. You were misled and distracted, we all were, and that's all part of the show.

Mission accomplished in light of her reply, wouldn't you think? I disagree that I spoiled it. I merely pointed out that no one watching the live or recorded show saw the video that was shown at the end of the show. This was not a spoiler, this was the truth. No one saw it. If I had told you how Derren had done it, yes, that would be a spoiler but I didn't. So I didn't spoil it.
