I like how Derren explained the BMX thing. We're living in the age of CGI and tricks don't impress us that much anymore, but when you explain it it's really interesting.

The last trick with Stephen Fry: Derren was performing at a restaurant pre fame and did that trick for a table of patrons, one turned out to be a C4 producer. The rest is history 👍

Derren looks like a mind-reader, but he's not. He's actually a mind-writer. Whatever choice or thought you think you made on your own, Derren put it in there. Derren knows what card you selected because he made you choose that card. It's amazing, and I wish I could do that as well :) You think you have free will? Not around Derren :)

On the last choice, Derren loudly says "Yes!". Pretending it was about his process, but IMO he was prompting/suggesting to Steven too choose yes? He did! And I knew he would!

After listening to Steve Merchant on XFM for so, so long, I'm 100% certain he died a little inside during that trick, and I want to hug him because of it. The worst part is that Derren knew it too... Also, gender and sexuality aside, I imagine that everyone who sits across from Derren Brown both falls in love with and is terrified of him simultaneously. I feel both of those emotions just watching him onscreen.

Last one, you can see when he switches the cigarette and the card. I love that he would keep this visible so we can see. Great.

For once explaining a magic trick was 10x more awesome than the actual trick, which was absolutely incredible to begin with. Damn.

Brown throws a hypnotic anchor... Pegg is showing all the signs of being a somnambulist so helping him forget having been a bit more helpful from a prior time wouldn't be too hard a task for an even half decent hypnotist. :-) The waffle is lovely though.

That tape recorder in the back in Simon Pegg's one is such an indication that he's trying to influence wheels turning

The no/yes thing is one of my favorites, because there's definitely no trick to it. I think its totally forward. Lots of his stuff is based on misdirection, sleight of hand, common mentalism tricks, but that one is just straight up psychology.

I love getting the occasional glimpse into how all this stuff works, like the red spots on the package containing the bike

At around 20:31 - the last trick with Stephy Fry - if you watch Derren's right hand holding the cigarette, you can see him switch it out at the edge of the table for the real card.

From the bottom of my heart, thank you Derren for showing I am not weird or a bit psychic, but that it is my prior unknown mannerisms and observations that have caused impressions that fooled me into wondering if I had a gift even though I do not believe in that. Very refreshing and awesome! (Now I need to figure out this perpetual clock thing in my head)

i saw the bmx thing coming from a mile away. if anyone knows/remembers white collar, there was episode with real and fake diamonds and the mc had to convince someone to only check out the real gems by wearing a certain color of tie and using that kind of wordplay. really amazing to see it happen with real people tho

I decided to memorize his patter and tried to match the exact physical touches and movements and it worked on 3 males it failed on the 2 females. Weird but has me intrigued hats for sure

The thing he did with Simon Pegg is called a snap induction, most people think of hypnosis as the swinging watch and you are getting very sleepy, but that's not necessary. When someone reaches out to shake your hand your automatic response is to put your hand out too, you don't have to think, "oh this person is putting out their hand for me to shake I'd better do the same" it's just automatic, but when something other than what you're expecting happens like them grabbing your wrist your brain doesn't know how to react and boom you're in a hypotonic state.(a bit of an oversimplification, but there's plenty of videos on KZfaq on snap induction if you're interested)

Bmx one was all about the room... there were a bunch of circles paired together that were red, hell even the tape thing was moving 🤷🏽‍♂️

I watched this years ago but I came back to watch it again. As I was watching it, I said 7 of clubs, 10 of clubs, jack of hearts. Strange. Didn't get them quite right but the last one was spot on for me.

Tricks is fun as hell... I remember a party with neighbors where one where actually quite good att these card tricks and it was a lot of fun... Then i remembered a trick my grandpa showed me that was so incredible simple so I almost never use it... anyway... some beers later and OK... I'll try it... it worked and the amateur neighbor "magician" was totally and incredibly mind blown... so I guess it is never the tricks complexity... it is mostly how you execute it... He really wanted to learn the trick and I was almost ashamed to show him how simple it was... Anyway, Derren Brown is on a whole other planet when it comes to tricks (and hypnosis and both together)...

Matt Lucas cards were forced using NLP: 1) 6 of Clubs ---- DB says "pop up into your head" while making the shape of a playing card club with his hands! Then he asks him to remember the worst character he played which is Sir Bernard Stateley that ran for only SIX ten minute shows. Matt's talked before about this. As a comedy show actor you're judge by the networks on how many shows a series can run for so SIX is the most important number to him and is directly tied his character being a flop 2) 4 of clubs ---- DB moves on quick to keep the connection to the last card and while pointing at something solid "keys" nice K sound for cards and clubs, (NLP solid = firm choice = same as before), at the same time he's point he re-enforces it with "very interesting".. NLP pathway locked!.. now he asks what the 2nd card is.. not the NEXT card, but the second card, so he's basically asking tell me a card that is two more that the last one. At this point he's not expecting Matt to answer and almost messes it up cos most people would say 8 of clubs being two more than six but then when he pushes the keys and says you can have those "back" he's trying to switch it to six, however Matt actually says the number four before he stops him but after he says "back' so he quickly shift again to say "oh no i actually do need them".. aka stay with that answer. 3) jack of diamonds --- This ones pretty easy... DB starts off my asking him to confirm that these cards are coming "right out the top of your head as I'm talking to you right now", (plant cards with heads) He then puts those other cards together and pauses, slows down his speech to separate them from the LAST card. Ok the Jack is not LAST but close to the end of the deck to so head, end-of-deck.. King, Queen or Jack... ok so he knows Matt is Jewish and very proud of it and he laughs when Matt mentions Jesus cos it links in nicely to the Jewish question.. J being Jesus and Jewish and Jack, he says "right now" twice more and then asks if he's "Jewish, religiously so or not so religiously so", right then it's Jack and what suit... well the biggest Jewish RELIGIOUS symbol is the Star of David that looks a lot like a Diamond ( more so that any other suite anyway). DONE!

The BMX is quite easy to figure out. I actually guessed way before the reveal. He talks really quickly but in there I heard the words handle and bar almost together, and "beaming with excitement" (b-m-x) very early on. Once you hear the first clue the rest fly in from all directions.

Thé first trick is word connection ! Smart to figure out key words so fast or he already has set off words for each card In the deck
