In this clip, Derrick talks about his approach to team basketball and impacting winning as a "role player" while sharing the court with Jayson Tatum, Jaylen Brown, Jrue Holiday and Kristaps Porzingis. So glad DWhite has been able to build up his confidence while in Boston. I remember when we first got him how streaky he was and it seemed like he didn’t fit in. Now he’s the perfect role player for us, I hope he’ll stay for the long run.

Ain’t no way you’re not gonna be playing in the 4th qtr Derrick. You’re one of the best players on the team. You’re way past the days of not getting minutes in clutch time. You’re a weapon now

Crazy how this man is getting and more importantly earning his flowers, and still remains as humble as any dude coming off the bench for a few minutes. That's what makes him a star. He's taken lessons from Popovich and Joe and Smart etc and just puts it on the floor every game. Some of those late shots he hit against the thunder were huge and only because of how great he has been doing did we not scream about how clutch he's been as well.

There is a reason advanced analytics have been saying Derrick white is a top 15 player since his spurs days. Elite defender, amazing on or off ball as a playmaker/connector, never makes the wrong reads, elite shooter, unselfish player. He’s the best rim protecting/shot blocking guard ever. Restricting White to the flawed term of ‘role player’ is being oblivious to basketball as a whole. He has countless ‘roles’ and pulls out the right card in the right scenario. This player is extremely rare which is why it is very undervalued/misunderstood. A ‘role’ can also be someone who scores the most points. Why is Cam Thomas not a role player when he only does one thing which is look to score. We love the eye candy which biases our understanding of who’s impacting the game the most. White can score which we’ve been seeing but he has a multitude of other weapons in his arsenal that make him such a rare, impactful player. He should not be confined to the talks of other role players because we need to look at impact on winning rather than this flawed term and Whites impact on winning has been at an all-nba level.

Marcus Smart has been my favorite C's player for years and it was tough seeing him go but D White has filled that role in the starting lineup perfectly. Just a great humble human being that is a badass on both ends of the floor.

Gotta admire his transparency but also his perspective. Doing whatever and however to facilitate winning. but also the change of attitude to not allow a bad game to affect his next game. Easy to say, hard to do.

Love D. White and I don’t find him to be irrationally confident. I think the that term is being used because he is a far more valuable contributor than people expected. He has the audacity and courage to step up and give his all to his team in whatever capacity is needed in a given game and his ego does not require it to be a starring role.

As a Celtics fan, this city loves this guy on our team. He’s so humble, and represents exactly what this city values: hard work, intelligence, humility, and a willingness to sacrifice personal achievement for the betterment of the people around him.
