Now the state's supreme court has allowed the ban to take effect, but also allows Florida voters to decide on abortion rights when they vote this November - the last thing that Republicans wanted.

If they really care about lives then how about stopping shootings? Why do people care more about an unborn fetus than a child who is already born? Where's the support for the struggling mothers? Where's the support to keep children who are already alive safe in schools? What about victims of SA? Are they forced to birth something that they didn't consent to? To a man who forced them to have intercourserse with them? Don't always assume that it was just some irresponsibility. There are still serious cases that shouldn't be downplayed

even more importantly, the most potent young men should have even less than zero say! Abortion, like other medical ethics issues, is not a public affair, it's private entirely bcuz in medical ethics, "No person shall be compelled to use any part of their body to sustain the life of another" So basic, and yet no one mentions this to these socially-hyper-aggressive ppl called 'anti-abortionsts', which they are, and they are also often terrorists-adjacent. We normal folks in this country are not going to put up with this much longer and leaders who broke the US constitution by pushing these laws against at least half of their state's populations, will be held legally accountable. If that means jail time, then so be it.

SCOTUS was majority conservative in 1973. So blame Republicans for Roe. Ohio voted to enshrine the right to abortion in the state constitution. It’s interesting how some Republican states voted to keep Roe v Wade, yet they vote for the same folks who want to ban it. Stop blaming Democrats.

As a man I think it is insulting to tell a woman what to do with her body. We don't experience pregnancy and its complications so we should keep our mouths shut and just be supportive. Then, there's the issue of having the government coming into people's bedrooms and to the doctor's office and telling a couple or a mother what to do. The government on those states and the SCOTUS are trampling on women's rights, imo.

@@acidfromhell Bodily rights and property rights are two different things. The responsibility to care for a child financially falls on BOTH parents after a baby is born -- it's not a "man" thing, it's a parent thing. But pregnancy requires the consent for someone else to use, and live inside of, your body. It's not about your money or your property, but your BODY. The government can require you to pay for many things, but they should never be allowed to require you to donate your body to anything. That's the difference. Abortion is about bodily autonomy, and is in no way comparable to child support laws (which are required of women, too, if a man has custody of the child).

@@carch7243 It's not a double standard at all. A woman gets to choose whether to complete a pregnancy because it happens in her body. That's why men get no say. Bodily rights are a fundamental right. Child support (again, required of both men and women) does not infringe on rights to anyone's body -- having to pay child support does not equate to the government taking ownership over your body. It's a completely different issue. It's really not that hard.

There are two types of abortions. Elective and spontaneous. Everyone talks like only elected abortions are the only abortions. 1 out of 4 pregnancies in the US end in spontaneous abortions. AKA miscarriages. I had a miscarriage in 2005, and my paperwork said spontaneous abortion. I was miffed, but I learned medically they are the same thing.

Florida businesses are hurting badly from a shortage of migrant workers. Couldn't be his laws targeting them made it harder to find workers which also made Florida the worst in the country for inflation to this day. Also worth noting home insurers fleeing Florida has created a massive price spike, which necessitated a private emergency state insurer which can't possible cover more than a major storm every few years or it will sink and need federal aid to not bankrupt Florida as a state.

Did you not hear that the Florida Supreme Court handed down the decision which was pending for more than a year, and also decided to place the issue on the ballot? The timing is not his doing and neither is the ballot that will keep this in the forefront of the minds of voters.

Very interesting timing on this law. It's going to be extremely unpopular with a majority of FL women. Also - the state and local governments will incur the costs of providing services for all the extra children being born. I hope they can get abortion protection on the ballot.
