From the very first time I saw Descendants the identity of Mal’s father was a mystery I was fascinated by, and after years of waiting, in Descendants 3, we finally learned the truth that Mal’s father is Hades! I was ecstatic the answer had finally been revealed, but after the truth was out more questions flooded my mind on this wicked god. Did Hades think he was a good father? How did he construct his lair? And why was he driven mad? Today we will be answering all of those questions and more as we jam to rock and roll and explore the backstory of Hades in Descendants.

All I can say is that at first, I was as mad as Hades when he ever gets heated with anger, and I just did not like that, but I've learned to accept it. Even as I was watching him and Mal's duet, as I was mad but jamming to the tune.

Mal is half fairy and half god. Maleficent is a fairy, her dragon form is just a magic transformation.

I know that Maleficent is a dark fairy traditionally, but in the Descendants films they emphasize much more that Mal has the power of a dragon with that ability being a significant magic she inherited

@@IsaacCarlson I think that Mal being daughter of Maleficent and Hades makes her more powerful than we thought in the magic. That explains why Mal was able to overcome her mother in the first movie.

I wonder how Mal would had changed if she had grown up with Hades instead?? I mean Maleficent doesn't love Mal a lot (shown in Descendants 1), but you can tell that Hades loves Mal so much. Would Mal be as "evil" or would she understand love more. B.T.W. Where did Maleficent go in the middle of the second movie, just going from being in a shoebox to never being reference again. And why wasn't she even showed in Descendants 3, she's just gone. 🐲🐉

You know in the movie "Hercules" Hades use to be in contact with the fates (the lady's with one eye). It makes me wonder, once his marriage with Maleficent went south did he ask them about the fate of his daughter if he were to leave 🤔?

jensen karis world of love House of Mouse was an old Disney TV show where all Disney characters would come together and watch some Mickey Mouse cartoons. It was a good show and it was my childhood.

I'm pretty sure she did but didn't know how to get in. I mean it's clear Celia has the key and could have possibly gotten it from Hades personally. If he was trying to keep himself away from Mal (for her own good?), he probably wouldn't let just anyone have access to his underground.

@@nocturnalanimals5884 yes but she does have a godly parent which still makes her half god and thus FAR MORE POWERFUL than a demigod because she is also the daughter of an INCREDIBLY old and POWERFUL Dark Faerie... and since they are both so well versed in their own respective magicks Mal has the potential(yes potential bcs I don't think she has achieved mastery over both sides of her lineage) to be so incredibly POWERFUL

Well technically Hades didn't actually try and kill Hercules as a baby , he just wanted to make him mortal . Though he did try to kill him as a adult .

Yeah she could have lied. Or she hated Hades so much that she chose to remember their time together differently. Rather than admitting he was a god like he actually was. Perhaps she saw him as a spineless pathetic human because he left her alone with their daughter. So many possible reasons. Safe to say Maleficent is a complicated woman.

I LOVE the fact that Mal is half fairy and demigoddess. Hades was one of my favorite Disney villains (who was more silly than scary). "Do What You Gotta Do" was an amazing rock song in D3 and I love the transition from Mal despising her father for leaving, to asking him for a favor (saving Audrey's life) to being a loving daughter.

Back then I wasn't sure that Hades was really Mal's dad I thought maybe he tried to trick Mal to think he's her father. Until I got a second thought that maybe this could be true then I was convinced about that information when I heard more news regarding Hades being Mal's dad. Hades sounds like he didn't want to have any connect with his ex wife or Mal but he wanted to be able to reconnect with Mal so he wouldn't had miss her . also sounds like he can be lonely pretty sure he didn't want to be alone before but he had no other choice at least he thought he didn't until now.

Hades should have his own show taking place after he Get's out of the river Of souls . with New characters like Persephony or Orpheus . And at end of the series Hades fix'es the underworld. Giving a reason worship him for Better stop in the after life

I didn't understand why haydes tried to strip mal of her powers when the fought at the bridge. I mean she's his daughter and although no one knew, him stripping his own blood of her powers seemed kinda extreme

@Blue Goat Man i know and mal's actions were justified. But haydes stripping her daughter of her powers was just extreme for a dad. And throughout the rest of the movie he is sweet and doesn't try to make any more attempts at running

Plus mal could have felt her powers being 'drain' because of the sheer shock of seeing hades appear so suddenly and her emotions were running wild and she just used that as an excuse as ti not say hades is her dad

rishika thakur Actually, Evie was the only person who knew that Hades were her father, along with Maleficent. She never told Jay and Carlos, or anyone else as seen in the movie.

Considering none of the other villains got out either except for Maleficent, who basically poofed there the moment the barrier broke, I think it wasn't open long enough.

It's possible that some minor characters did get out only to be put back in later and people like hades might have been too preoccupied to realize what was going on and by the time they did notice it was too late

I loved that Hades turned out to be her father. I've always been a fan of Hades both in Disney and in Greek mythology. So when I learned we would be meeting maps dad I was like please be Hades please be Hades. And it was better than I could have imagined

Descendants 3 just showed how much of a cowardly close minded and downright cruel King Beast was. To lock away innocents with such "evil" villains simply for not fitting the "hero" agenda is so evil. King Beast is the real villain and a cruel monster.

You know what really bothers me. Who was Mals dad originally supposed to be. Because in the first book it made it pretty damn clear it wasn’t Hades. So the author had a completely different idea on who Mals dad was until they decided to change it for whatever reason. I do like hades though.

Maybe you can answer this better than I can: Is Audrey a sympathetic "villan?" I mean, I definitely felt bad for the girl. All her life she's been told her destiny is to end up with Ben and be queen, and some VK comes from the island and messes that all up for her? I honestly felt bad for her. In her mind she did everything she was supposed to and yet she got burned. What do you guys think?

Lady Liza I think she was an self-entitled jerk. The cliche mean girl: she’s rich, popular, and likes the color pink( I mean that’s all the girl wears). I feel like she never really liked Ben, just wanted the crown to boast her royal status. I don’t think that she and Ben would be right for each other. During the first movie it seems like she just tells Ben what she expects of him, even his on mother Belle said it. I guess you can say she was a misunderstood character, but I feel like it could’ve been established better. She says “she’s nice” but she’s the furthest thing from nice.

@@kenyamckoy8114 Mal isn't that great either, but no one talks about that, if you read the first book in the Isle of the Lost series you would know how awful she was. She love-drugged Ben, but it's okay because "he fell in love with her anyway" or something. Audrey had a right to be suspicious. It's the daughter of the villain from her fairy tale her oh- so -caring boyfriend decided to invite the Villain from her Mother's fairy tale! She doesn't know Mal, so while she shouldn't have judged her, the audience knew they were planning to steal the wand. But I agree with you on one thing, if they wanted us to sympathize with Audrey then they could have had her actually be sad when Ben dumps her for no reason!

I understand what they were going for with Audrey’s character. In the first movie she does come off as the typical mean girl, queen of the hive, and her only interest in Ben seems to be the status it gives her. So I didn’t feel particularly sorry for her when she lost the guy because she didn’t actually love him. By the end of the first movie she seems to have come to some type of truce or mutual respect with Mal, and then goes MIA for the sequel. Which is why her reaction in the third movie made no sense to me. Her hostility seemed to have returned out of nowhere and it just didn’t fit. I get that the “bad guy” had to come from Auradon to make the ending work, but it just felt forced in my opinion. But then I had a thought. What if Audrey was originally more traumatized by the events of the first movie than we realized? Ben proposed to Mal by singing a romantic rendition of Did I mention, which was the perfect proposal for their story, but that was also Audrey’s moment of disgrace. She was humiliated when her boyfriend stood up and publicly declared his feelings for another girl right in front of her. She didn’t have to be in love with Ben for his actions or lack of remorse to leave a mark emotionally. Image was everything to Audrey and Ben didn’t just dump her, he made it a public event. (Granted, under a spell) We don’t actually know how much time has passed between the second and third movie, and we know the second movie only took place six months after the first. So we have no idea how much or how little time Audrey has had to work through these feelings and come to terms with everything. Depending on the timeline she could have had anywhere from a year to actual years for this resentment to build, especially if she was receiving constant guilt and criticism from her family the way we saw in this last movie.

Marinette/Ladybug Dupain-Cheng Personally, I feel that’s oversimplifying things. Yes Audrey was popular, shallow, and egotistical, but she didn’t have the same mean streak. Her distrust of Mal, while not originally warranted, was handed down through her family for generations, and Mal did prove worthy of that mistrust with her own actions. She earned Audrey’s contempt, first by using a magic spell to steal her boyfriend (humiliating her in the process) and by showing no shame or remorse for her actions after the fact. Mal May have chosen good, but she was very much the villain of Audrey’s story because in her mind her life was perfect until Mal came and ruined everything. She also lived in a house with a family that continued to resent Mal and criticized Audrey for “losing” to their greatest enemy’s daughter. There’s a lot of personal feelings involved that just weren’t there with Regina George in Mean Girls.

Ami Pooran I’ve read the first 2 books, watched both sets of shorts and all three movies. Her name IS maleficent. THE Maleficent just doesn’t let her use the name Maleficent because she’s, and I quote ‘weak like her father’ (as said around the time Maleficent also referred to mal’s dad as human.)

Kanna Rosie hades doesn’t have a surname neither does Maleficent or Mal. Also just because someone gets married doesn’t mean they change their surname. Nor does separation or divorce mean such a thing, Maleficent would NOT take some mans surname - nor would she let her child.

Something random: Actually in Greek mythology Hades was the place, Hades=Underworld . The lord of the underworld and "Disney's Hades" actual name was Pluto(like the planet) who married Persephone, daughter of the goddess Dimitra

when you stop and think about it a lot of the auradon people are even worse than the villains when you think about it. Some of these villains suffered brutal deaths. (Dr. Faciller was literally dragged to hell. Ursula was impaled by a ship.) And the so call heroes weren't satisfied with that being the end so they resurrected everyone just to lock them up in a place without magic. (The lack of magic didn't even make sense for the less magical villains like Gaston, Frollo, cruella didn't even need magic.) In other words the heroes are just as vengeful as the villains if not more so because there are many who were ready to just forget about even the little children in the isle.

No apparently fairy God mother is she can revive and seal away all the villains. Beings like jafar who wielded cosmic power as genie. Hades who is a literal God of death. Maleficent an evil fairy who required a prince using a sword enchanted by three fairies to kill. Ursula a sea witch and Dr. Faciller a man who was imbued with various dark powers and was supposedly dragged to hell to by his friends from the other side(friends who I don't feel would let him go easy)

Hi there here hades is ladies man and rocker here my theory hades marry Persephone (aka steal his niece) in his time rule of the underworld. When Zeus heard fairy godmother and king beast word bring back dead villain he was not sure about it and his brother hades lord/god of underworld who watch over dead even dead villains, but he has no choice to banished his brother hades and fairy godmother bring dead villain back to life. In the isle after king beast banished all living and undead villains to the isle hades marry maleficent and they had mal That's make Mal and Hercules biological cousins. So that my theory I hope you like it😉😉😉
