Grew up loving Alan Ladd way back in the forties and fifties. Now, Aged 87, have been able to rediscover Alan via the internet and my goodness, how I am enjoying it. I have just watched a dvd I have, "The Glass Key" with Veronica Lake and William Bendix. Wonderful! Can't make up mind watch to watch next as I am spoiled for choice. Regards to all Alan's still watching fans. England, January, 2024.

Good on you sir, I’m not far behind you at 60. Me too, I remember Alan Ladd from my youth onwards. My parents loved watching movies on the tv and me and my brothers watched them with them. They don’t make like they used to do they. All the very best

Watched some of Alan Ladd’s movies in the late movies when I was a kid with my parents. My personal favorite is the movie “OSS” made right after WWII. But anything with Alan Ladd is going to be good.

I have seen this movie before, but I didn't realize it was Alan Ladd! He had a Suave Voice for sure! His wife Betty White was a Beauty as well! They had the most Wonderful Connection! Betty was a Trooper after he passed, but still came back to play on Password! A ROCK Solid Relationship between the two! I miss-M both, butt, I have Fond memories about them! Soo-Likeable! General Burkholder, It was pretty nice on Hogans Heroes, the main germans, Klink, Shultz, and Burkhalter were actually german or Austrian, as Leon Askin, Burkhalter was. And he lived to be almost 100. Not bad for somebody that big. But he did go on a diet and lost alot of weight.😊😊

The screenplay for DESERT LEGION was co-written by Irving Wallace (1916-1990), who became a bestselling novelist. Several of his fiction were filmed, including THE CHAPMAN REPORT (1960), THE PRIZE (1963), THE SEVEN MINUTES (1971), and THE MAN (1972). Another novel by the author, THE WORD, was made as a a television miniseries which premiered in 1978.

This may or may not be a good movie, but I was thrilled to be able to watch it with my mom who is 91. She graduated from the U. Of Minnesota with a degree in drama. (Peter Graves and Pernell Roberts were friends and classmates) Arlene Dahl was her cousin.
@janetfranklin22235 жыл бұрын
That is wonderful, and to go to school with them, my mom, later in life moved to Duluth and made friends with her neighbor who was a cousin to Judy Garland. She had a lot of childhood pictures. Doing my family tree and the help of others, I am related to Drew Carey, Carrie Fisher, Debbie Reynolds, Chuck Norris.

Awesome….Love these old movies, and love watching Allan Ladd in them as well…..Hollywood has lost its way, they don’t make them like they used to, quality instead of quantity….when making movies was an art instead of accumulating CGI/AI to do it all, when actors/actresses took pride in their roles and work and gave us a great performance and something to look forward to in the entertainment industry….HIGH 5 to all those who did their jobs well, including all those behind the scenes, in creating a masterpiece of enduring qualities that stands throughout time. 👍🙏🏼❤️🥰🍿🎥🎬🚀

In an interview on KZfaq, actor Anthony Caruso tells a nice story of how he did Alan Ladd a favour when they were young struggling actors. Alan never forgot Athony's kindness and when he, Alan, became a big star he would always find a role in his movies for Anthony ( like this one )
@MOGGS19424 жыл бұрын
I read something similar, and when I saw this film was recommended, I wondered if Caruso would be in it, and there he was. Alan Ladd was short in stature, but big in every other way.

Richard Conte was an intelligent and charismatic actor but was wasted in many of the crap two-dimensional 'villain ' parts that came his way after the '40s: he saw the pictures he made (like this one) as catering for 'a 14 year-old mentality'.

Actually it was way down the list of 1953 movies. About 117th. Movies like The Robe, Peter Pan, From Here to Eternity, Niagara and a 100 others grossed way more money. It's rating on IMDb low. www.ultimatemovierankings.com/1953-movies/

Nifty little dust-up is this film despite much that's implausible, such as 19th-century Algerian natives all speaking English flawlessly. Ladd stoic but effective, on a par with his immortal "The Black Knight"!

Alan Ladd's son, David was also a fine actor. I saw him in the Bonanza movie Feet of Clay with Hoss when he was a young boy. It was a very good movie but a little bit sad as Hoss had to kill his dad. He was an escaped convict. 😮😮😮😮😮

I love period pieces and I've always liked Alan Ladd a lot. But as is usually the case with Most Follywood movies there is at least one major flaw in this picture. A corporal fresh out of boot camp would not even lead a Squad of men much less a full company or larger complement of men into the middle of an apparent box canyon to be ambushed and/or slaughtered. I have no military experience but have studied infantry tactics to some degree. The movie was enjoyable never-the-less.

But there was nothing escapee about la Legion etrangere or the foreign Legion in Algeria and Morocco as their prowess and bravery kept Franve on control of this region for almost 130 years until the Moroccan independence in 1956 and the very hard fought independence of Algeria in 1962. Go learn before coming to write laughable foolishness that only betrays your ignorance and stupidity. Shameful
